We own and Operate the RadioShack in Penn Yan. We have been living in the area for over 50 years.
Jim Schnitzler purchased this apartment in 2011
We bought this property to move our business to main street and have the opportunity to help revitalize downtown which happy to see downtown Penn Yan is looking good. We love the Finger Lakes, especially Keuka Lake...
We restored a distressed property on main street...
Jim was a very friendly and accommodating host.
The property was immaculate and overall top notch.
Definitely recommend as a great place to stay,
What a beautiful, comfortable apartment ! I have and will continue to tell folks about this place. Great for people out on the wine trails or just visiting family like us....
Overall our experience was excellent. The bed was so comfortable. Bathroom was super clean. Kitchen was well appointed. And the fireplace was a nice touch. We enjoyed our stay and our first experience using VRBO!
This review is about Jim, the owner of the property. I was scheduled to visit the property on Sep 5; however, due to unfortunate circumstances, I had to cancel the stay on Aug 19.
Jim was very understanding of our situation and immediately refunded the payment. While I am disappointed that we had to cancel the trip, I certainly look forward to staying at this property in the future.
I recommend this place simply based on the ease of doing business and trustworthiness. Unable to rate the apartment because of the canceled trip.
What a great apartment on Main Street in Penn Yan. We booked this apartment without seeing it first and were more than happy with what we saw upon arrival. It was immaculate, and even more charming and spacious than what the pictures showed.
The owner, Jim, was extremely easy to communicate with. He was in his retail shop located under the apartment when we arrived. He took us upstairs, gave us the tour, all information we would need for our stay and let us know that if there was anything we needed during our 10 night stay to please let him know. The fridge had water, there was coffee and tea in the cupboard as well as dishes, spices, aluminum foil, paper towels, cleaning supplies and more as well as tons of fluffy bathroom towels and toiletries.
The beds were comfortable, or heavenly as I described it to Jim. There is an A/C unit in the main bedroom with a fan attached in the doorway, as well as a ceiling fan in the living room to help keep it cooler in the summer months. We never had a problem with it being hot and there were some hot days during our stay.
We did have towels, sheets and the apartment cleaned once during our stay. The frequency is something to discuss with Jim.
We never encountered a noise problem with the apartment overlooking Main Street. If you must sleep with your windows open then, yes, you will hear a bit of traffic or late night wanderers. Otherwise it was quite peaceful. The stairway leading up to the apartment is shared by a business but it was no bother or inconvenience to us at all. We just had to remember to leave the bottom door unlocked during business hours. If stairs are a problem for you, there are about 18 steps up.
Parking is located behind the building. To load and unload our vehicle we were able to park directly in front of the door and then move to the back, which is just a quick walk around the corner.
This would be a great stay for anyone not wanting to pay the "lake" prices and have the ease of walking around downtown to shopping/restaurants/bars. We are from the area and were only in need of a convenient place to stay while visiting our families but this would be an ideal place for anyone wanting to tour the lakes/wineries/attractions in the area.
There is nothing bad to say about this rental, we loved it. We were so happy that Jim had the apartment available for our time in Penn Yan. We will look forward to our next trip to NY and hope that it's available then as well!
This is a nice place to stay, brand new apartment that is decorated very stylishly. The beds are very comfortable. Loved the little basket of goodies in the bathroom! We really liked that this place had a full kitchen so if we wanted to cook we could - we didn't. It is located close to everything, stores, quaint downtown, the lakes and vineyards.
