About John 'Scott' McLeod

My career was in education. I was headmaster of two schools for 30 years. When I retired, I moved to Palo Alto to be close to my two daughters and their families.

The picture is of me and my daughter Stephanie, who is General Manager of the Cardinal Hotel in downtown Palo Alto. She would be the main contact person for renters staying in my home.

John 'Scott' McLeod purchased this house in 2009

Why John 'Scott' McLeod chose Menlo Park

Perfect place for my family visit

  • 5 of 5
This home provided the best location for my month long stay in Menlo Park to welcome a new grandbaby and visit with my young family. The house was well appointed, books, music, and welcome treats Scott provided added to the comfortable feeling throughout my stay in the quiet space and lovely relaxing yard.
I was able to assume grandmother duties nearby and retreat to "my home" to refresh my energy.
The nearby market and the coffee and doughnut shop were mandatory stops on my morning walks in the neighborhood. The garden is lovely and the fragrance of the citrus trees and roses were an added incentive to call me to return on my next visit to the area.

Idyllic haven in a busy world!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I have stayed in many VRBO residences all over the world… but this one was exceptional. It is first and foremost a home. And we stayed for about a month and at the end were sad to leave. We loved the contemporary layout, the ease of access to the freeway, the beautiful garden that we could gaze at during our breakfast and the deck area that we could have a BBQ dinner and enjoy the beautiful flowers.
The home has a cooks kitchen and great dining area. Then there is a relaxing and cozy living room with a wonderful and comfortable sofa. But the most amazing piece was the super comfortable "sleep number" bed!
A beautiful, comfortable and relaxing haven in a busy world.

Fit our needs perfectly

  • 5 of 5
We were in the house for almost 3 weeks. Our purpose was to visit our daughter, husband, and new born grandson only 10 minutes away in Palo Alto. So the location was perfect for us. The house was immaculate when we arrived. Scott met us and gave us a grand tour with all the details needed for a comfortable stay. The bedroom was roomy with lots of closet space. It included a sleep number bed which proved to both my wife and my liking--since we got to choose the hardness/softness we liked. The living area was large and open. The back yard was delightful. We ate out there almost every evening we ate at home. I enjoyed several conference calls seated in the rocking chair which I moved to the shade. If you have to do business while traveling, there couldn't be a better setting. The neighborhood was nice. I enjoyed my early morning walk all over Menlo Park and Palo Alto. When we visit again, we will surely try to stay in this lovely home.

An extended stay by the bay

  • 5 of 5
We took this rental on doctor's orders. After back surgery at Stanford, the doctor forbade travel for six weeks. We live out of state. This house met our needs perfectly.

It has a welcoming, family feel to it. It is comfortable and well kept up. The kitchen is well-equipped. The satellite TV package carries more channels than one could wish for. The house has WIFI, which enabled us to conduct business from long-distance. The back yard is private and meticulously cared for. It is a pleasant place to spend time or to view from inside the house through glass doors. A morning newspaper was even part of the deal.

The location is within minutes of shopping in Palo Alto and Menlo Park. San Francisco is a short distance away.

Because two to three daily walks were the prescribed rehab regimen we spent many hours on the paths of the Bayshore preserves, from Menlo Park to Palo Alto to Mountain View. At high tide, on clear days with sunshine, and when the birds are out--thousands of them--the preserves are gorgeous. They are a birdwatcher's dream and, in Mountain View on weekends, birders flock by the dozens. Other days we traveled to the hilly country on the west and walked trails beneath wild California oaks.

The owner explained all we needed to know to make the best use of the property and made certain we could contact him if need be. He went out of his way to ensure that our needs were met.

We wouldn't hesitate to recommend this rental, especially when compared against a long-term hotel stay. We couldn't have found a better place for our needs.
