At the end of our two weeks of travel we ended up on the Vagabound. It was something fun and different and gave us a different look at things than if we had been in a hotel. We had 4 adults in our party and the space and privacy were perfect. We sat on the top deck and watched the boat traffic. We saw a different side of the city watching the bridge raise for large boats, freighters go through, all the other boat dwellers were very friendly and helpful. The owner was extremely helpful and great to work with. I would stay here again and would highly recommend it to others. A fun few days!
My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights and enjoyed it very much. Our first time renting a houseboat. It was a fun adventure. The boat is docked in a lovely marina on Badger's Island, just across the water from Portsmouth, N.H. We were able to walk into Portsmouth, via the Portsmouth Memorial Bridge bridge just up the street. A couple of miles away were the Kittery Shopping Outlets. We had originally asked another couple to join us, but they couldn't. It's a good thing, 'cause even though it has two bedrooms with queen size beds and 1 1/2 baths, I feel privacy would have been an issue. I think it's perfect for a couple, a girls getaway and a family with teenagers. I say teenagers, 'cause I would have been very nervous if our young grandchildren had been with us. The weather was spectacular and George the Dock Master, along with his wife Dawn, were extremely helpful and friendly.
Loved the houseboat. Wonderful location just a short walk over the bridge!!
We stayed on The Vagabond with my parents. Loved the location and it was a fun experience to "live on a houseboat". Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We arrived after dark, and it was very nice that they left a small light and some music on for us. Jessica made the entire booking procedure nice and easy and George was the perfect dock master. We'll definitely be back.
We enjoyed the boat very much. Things to note: Depending on tide, ramp can be steep down to dock. Still managable though. Residents nice and easy going. Very quiet. Boat rocks (not to point of causing balance issues), most notable in bathroom and kitchen but amazing for sleeping. We cooked on boat and also brought food in and ate on top deck. This location is an easy drive to Portland, ME and an easy walk across bridge to Portsmouth.
I loved my stay on the houseboat!! Loved sitting on the roof deck and watch all the activity on the river with a cup of coffee (or wine in the evening) Plenty of restaurants in Portsmouth and Kittery. Definitely coming back next year!!!
Enjoy the unique experience of living on a house boat and take advantage of all the seacoast attractions. Plenty of restaurants, village shops, Prescott Park in Portsmouth, just a 10 minute walk away offers outdoor plays, bands, festivals as well as their beautiful flower gardens. A 5 minute drive on Route One North brings you to world famous outlet shopping in Kittery, ME as well as more dining including the famous Bob's Clam Hut which was featured on Food Networks Drive-ins, Dives and Diners. Interested in doing daytrip? Boston is an hour south, the beautiful White Mountains of NH are an 1 1/2 hours to the north. A nice drive up the coast of Maine would take you to the quaint coastal villages of York Beach, Ogunquit and Kennebunkport which boast beautiful beaches, shopping and world class dining.
