Growing up in the beautiful city of Victoria and now being lucky enough to live in Qualicum has been truly a dream. This island is such a special place, how lucky we are to live on Vancouver Island.
We have just purchased our home and the log cabin was a bonus. I had named it the 'Dragonfly' before even seeing the inside of the cabin. Well it was meant to be, as inside hung a beautiful glass shade with none the less a dragonfly !! I felt this little log cabin was just too cute and had to share it with visitors and friends.
Hence the 'Dragonfly' is ready for quests.
Susan purchased this cabin in 2013
My husband (Rick) and I were living in Nanoose, just south of Parksville, but found we were always heading up this way to bring the dogs for a walk on the great walking trails. We would stop for lunch or a drink at one of the various restaurants or bistros. We felt so at home up this way and met some really nice people. So when our home sold, we found this gem and are truly loving it. The peace and quiet and the sound of Nile creek that surrounds the yard is enchanting.
I quite often just go in and sit in the log cabin.. it reminds me of my childhood and simpler times. We are surrounded with beautiful tall cedars, and of course the babbling creek. I just love the peace and serenity here, as I am sure you will. The beach at one end of our road and a great hiking trail a stones throw from our yard, it just doesn't get any better.
Cloudy when we arrived but rest of weekend was sunny & mild. Enjoyed our late night walks under the stars; hiking the beautiful Linx trail and seeing the sunbeams filter through the trees, building Fairy Houses at the creeks edge, playing ball with Bailey, giggling over Balderdash definitions and eating yummy cabin-cooked meals, or BBQ-ing outside.
Sue & Rick, thank-you for your thoughtful gestures!! A+ hospitality!! We love your cabin as a fun family get away!! Till next time...
We went out to BC to visit with my son in Campbell River, an we wanted to have the alone time so we found this amazing cottage on Craig's list, we had a awesome time, we love the cottage the grounds an the creek behind the cottage, an Rick an Sue Are amazing caregivers to this amazing cottage tucked away an so private, next time we come out we are definitely staying there again...
Such a warm and cozy vacation rental! The hosts, Susan and Rick are very welcoming, ensuring you are satisfied with the cabin and answer every question. They also take the time to give you info and insight on the local places to eat, visit and activities.
The cabin is excellent! Truly a home away from home.
We have already decided that we are coming back!
This is more than it looks. They actually have a BBQ now and we had free eggs from the chickens in the back.
The place is cozy, clean, well-equipped and the owners are very friendly, but give you lots of privacy. They have 2 dogs, which are nice, but they are kept behind a fence, just in case you do not want the dogs all over you. You are however invited to walk around in the garden and go to the little river in the back.
The log house is about 50 m from a trail head, which makes for great walks and the beach is a 10 min walk.
If you like wildlife, there is an abundance of hummingbirds and when we left in the morning, a bear came strolling out of the trailhead.
This is a great getaway and we can only recommend the place.
The world famous Coombs Market with the live goats on the roof is a sure stop for any one staying, and very close is both Spider & Horne Lake with the Horne lake caves for those who dare to go inside. Miles of beach to explore beachcombing. The walking & biking trails just several steps from 'The Dragonfly'. Or just sit by Nile Creek at the back of the property and enjoy a good book. Try some fly fishing at the Nile Creek fly fishing school nearby. Take a 15 drive to the quaint little town of Qualicum browsing through unique shops and a amble supply of restaurants and bistros.
Have had a great seven months since opening the 'Dragonfly' and have met some very special folks.
Look forward to many years ahead, on sharing the little log cabin. Susan
