|Minimum Stay||2 - 7 nights|
Relax at our newly remodeled family cottage near the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The cottage is located on Little Platte Lake, ideal for fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, hiking, biking, and wildlife viewing. We are located on a private bay, directly across from The Medenbrook Nature Preserve where you have unobstructed views of the tree line.
The cottage is located on a private road in a quiet community, but close enough to all that northwestern Michigan has to offer (M-22 & Saffron Road, Honor). Explore the beaches and hiking trails of the National Park, or take a trip up to Traverse City for shopping, restaurants, art, and music. The charming towns of Beulah, Empire, Frankfort, and Glen Arbor are within 10-20 minutes of the cottage.
If you enjoy fishing and boating, the Little Platte Lake boat launch is a few minutes out the drive on Saffron Road. You can also launch at nearby Platte Point to access Lake Michigan. Launch a kayak or stand up paddle board directly from our 100 feet of private shore line. We're adding a dock in the beginning of June, 2015, so you can also dock you boat.
With 3 new beds and a queen sleeper sofa, there are a variety of sleeping options. If you like to cook, a gas range and charcoal barbecue are available for your use. You can also try your open fire cooking skills over a bonfire near the lake. The kitchen is well equipped with a coffee maker, tea kettle, toaster, and microwave.
If you want to unplug during your time away, we keep a variety of board games and books in the cupboards. The spacious yard is great for outdoor games.
Please note that we strive to use environmentally friendly cleaning products and encourage our guests to do the same in order to preserve our lakeside habitat.

David and I are originally from metro Detroit, but we now call Mendocino, California our home. As a couple, we enjoy gardening, cooking, discovering new music, and the company of good friends. David loves to disk golf and is passionate about working with kids. I enjoy backpacking, reading, and tuning into nature. We both work with youth and families.
Renee & David purchased this cottage in 1989
We inherited the property from my father in 2011 (who inherited it from his father) and have made numerous updates. We've been putting a lot of tlc into the space the last few years. Both David and I share warm memories of traveling to the Great Lakes as kids. It is our intention to make the cottage a warm and inviting place where others can explore the bounty of Northwestern Michigan.
In addition to the dunes, the cottage is a terrific jumping off point to exploring the charm of the nearby towns of Beulah, Frankfort, Empire, and Glen Arbor. Traverse City is 30 minutes north where you can take a break from the beach and access movie theaters, fine dining, galleries, breweries, and shops.
I can't say enough about my experience at Renee's cabin. First of all, Renee was so easy to communicate with, she gave me so many recommendations of things to do in the area, and was so accommodating. Actually, after the first day, I realized that the two nights I had scheduled wasn't going to be enough to soak in all that the area had to offer or fullness of the relaxation that the cabin provided, so I ended up emailing her to see about staying an extra night. She responded quickly and graciously extended my reservation. Secondly, the cabin is so great. It's right on a small lake near Sleeping Bear Dunes. It's evident that the interior was recently renovated, it was exceptionally clean and so comfortable. And the stillness of the small area it's located in was so refreshing. If you're looking for a quiet place to unwind and get refreshed this is it.
I highly recommend this place! It is astonishingly beautiful, clean, comfortable, spacious and heart warming. You will not want to leave there again. The view out onto the lake ist breathtaking, the nature around you something very special. At least when you hear the coyotes sitting at the fireplace you will know this was the right choice. Within half an hour drive you get to see all the Highlight-Sand Dunes in the area. Staying at this place is one of my finest memories after travelling through the US for one whole month.
My mom and I came up to see the Fall colors in the area and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. The cottage is right on the lake and is all redone inside. Everything was very clean, lots of kitchen supplies, and other amenities. There is nothing like eating breakfast and watching the loons on the lake right outside your kitchen and living room window! A perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle, and refresh your spirit and soul in the beautiful Northern Michigan woods :)
My favorite things to do in the area: Leelanau Coffee Company in Glen Arbor, Sleeping Bear Dunes (specifically Empire Bluff, Pyramid Point, Alligator Hill Trail), Cherry Republic, Fishtown in Leland, Grand Traverse Pie Company, Dinghy's in Frankfort. I could go on and on. Just one of my most favorite places!
Nice cabin! Had everything we needed and was very clean. We enjoyed the fires by the lake!
Excellent stay!! The cottage is completely remodeled and lovely and is in a great location. We were able to go to Glen Arbor, Lake Ann, Duck Lake , Crystal Lake,Frankfort and Acadia with ease! Fall colors were gorgeous:-)
Owner was extremely helpful with tips on places to go and restaurants to try. Would absolutely recommend a visit here anytime of the year!
We had a wonderful stay in early October. The property and its location were perfect for our family of four. The cabin was clean and recently renovated. The views from the living room were amazing. We didn't miss tv at all and used our phones for Internet. Surprisingly enough the AT&T connection was great.
Our three year old twins had a great time playing by the lake and could be entertained for hours picking pinecones and sticks. There was plenty of kid friendly activities in the area: children's museum in Traverse City, Gallagher's farm, Hoxsies pumpkin patch, playground on Empire beach, and even the Empire Bluffs trail.
The owners were very prompt with their responses and very accommodating. We look forward to returning next year!
