Overview

Upper Black Eddy House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedroom 2 And 1/2 Bath Home On Completely Private Wooded Setting

FROM PHILADELPHIA MAGAZINE, NOVEMBER 2014:

'Two cultural VIPs (from the Curtis Institute and Kimmel Center) bought this roomy log cabin in 2012 as an escape from city life. Then they gave it an overhaul, adding the perfect mix of vintage elements (an enameled wood stove from Norway) and new stuff (spa-like bathrooms, a private suite) for a gorgeous upscale-yet-cozy look. Lucky for you they're willing to share. Drive 20 minutes and you'll find Lake Nockamixon, antiques shops, and quaint enclaves like Frenchtown.'

***New for 2015 - Handscraped Hardwood Floors in the Private Suite***

Wonderful dense and soft carpeting in the main house bedrooms - 20 foot deck off the private suite apartment - Enameled Norwegian wood stove with masonry wall in the dining room - Two sink vanity with granite counter and under-mount sinks in the main house bathroom - Great new games in the living room!

Just furnished and completely refreshed in 2013, this log home has a chef's kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances and granite counters. The original handmade cabinets and built-ins have been retained.

The main bathroom is very large, with a claw foot tub and shower. There is a complete collection of bath salts and other skin products providing a spa experience.

While the whole home is newly furnished, unique antique pieces fill the property with character. The huge dining room seats 12, and adjoins the living room for perfect entertaining.

There are two bedrooms and a bath on the 2nd floor, a powder room in the kitchen and a private apartment accessed from back of the house.

The apartment has a large living room, bedroom and bath. There are queen size sofa beds in the living rooms of both the main house and the apartment.

Large flat screens are in the living room, two bedrooms and the living of the private suite. There is Wi-Fi service. A complete package of premium channels, sports and children's programming provides all guests with multiple choices for TV viewing. A Blu-ray player and a wireless printer for convenient printing of local destinations and directions caps off a most technologically sophisticated package tucked in a country log home environment.

Outdoors is landscaped and beautiful from all four sides of the house. The front yard is long, wide and rolling, with a park-like atmosphere. One side of the house has a raised garden, and the other a large deck with two tables and 8 chairs. There is a 5 burner gas grill on the deck. The back yard is wide and flat, with many visits by deer and a large variety of birds.

Extra features include a full size second refrigerator, and two pop-up picnic tables with built-in seating that each seat 4.

About Chuck Finch

I live in downtown Philadelphia in a 4 story townhouse built in 1803. I grew up in a family that developed property for over 100 years, so my love of interesting architecture and restoring houses is in my blood.

Chuck Finch purchased this house in 2012

Why Chuck Finch chose Upper Black Eddy

There is no type of property that offers such a distinctly warm and welcoming appeal as a log home. By updating the house without making it too contemporary, I think that Raspberry Hill has a unique combination of sophistication and rustic charm.

What makes this house unique

The outdoor property is vey private and quite beautiful. Although a log house, all of the technology you could ever want is available.

Upper Black Eddy Log home

  • 5 of 5

This is a charming log home in a beautiful property. It is clear from the outset that the owners take great pride in keeping this home in immaculate condition. The kitchen has everything that one could every need and all facilities have been upgraded. Completely private with acres of woods, birds, multiple patios and even a little stream running through. This is a perfect place for a restful few days out of the city.

A few minor suggestions for the separate apartment:

If there were a sink in the "kitchen" area, together with a microwave, a few mugs and glasses and fixings for coffee, it would be even more comfortable (and it could be rented out as a separate unit!)

Having said that, I would highly recommend this property!

Short Lovely Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5

I wanted a quite retreat with a wood buring fireplace, a great soaking tub and a comfortable bed. I got all of those but so much more! We only had two nights for our short honeymoon at this lovely log home in Upper Black Eddy, but hope to be back again many times. This will definitely become our retreat from city life in Philadelphia without having to drive hours to get there.

The gravel drive up to the house was long enough to make us realize we were going to have the privacy we wanted.

As we entered, the home welcomed us with subtle lighting warming our way to discover the beauty of the exquisitely decorated living and dining room. Art was everywhere! Pictures don't do it justice.

The kitchen was so well equipped that we decided to cook in and really enjoy our time there. One night, as we were about to grill on the deck, we discovered we had 9 deer as guests. In the morning, wild turkeys greeted us. There was an iPod jack, so we were able to play our Pandora stations thru the sound system.

The soaking tub has a wonderful view of the woods out back. The bed and linens were just like home. We had an amazing time and thank you, Chuck, so much for making this last minute reservation possible for us.

Wonderful home - great refuge

  • 5 of 5

This is a wonderful vacation home! Our week with friends (4 adults and 4 teens) worked out great. There was plenty of space for us to spread out, relax, enjoy reading, music, games and movies. Within reasonable drives we were able to visit Doylestown - visiting Mercer Museum and Fonthill and doing some shopping; visit the location of Washington's crossing of the Delaware; shop in Peddler's village - loved the pottery store there; and a little longer drive let us enjoy Philadelphia for the day. We would have enjoyed sitting out on the deck, grilling more meals and taking in the peace and quiet but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate - although we did spy a few wild turkeys at the edge of the property one day. We found everything that we needed to enjoy this spectacularly decorated home. Everywhere you looked you found a surprise. The kitchen was well stocked. The bedrooms in the main house were a great size, comfortable, cozy and wonderfully appointed. One of the gals thoroughly enjoyed the spa soak in the tub and the apartment was a welcomed refuge for our teens. Chuck was extremely easy to work with in coordinating our arrival and providing suggestions and information about the area.

We would love to stay here again as there is still so much that we can explore in the area.

Hidden Treasure

  • 5 of 5

Hidden among the trees is a heavenly sanctuary painstakingly and clearly designed with much thought and love. The 'cabin' was a delight and as other reviewers have mentioned, the pictures do not do it justice. Everything was above and beyond what was expected, and little surprises were around every turn. Chuck was a great communicator and very accommodating. Truly a pleasure to work with. We celebrated our anniversary here and plan a return trip, possibly in the early fall. Close to so much: we skied, went to a winery, had dinner on the river, a night out in the casino, and a few lazy hours on the couch in front of the fire. Couldn't have asked for a nicer mini vacation!! Thanks Chuck!! Michael & Theresa

Wonderful family gathering

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered to celebrate October birthdays at this wonderful house. Everything was perfect. The pictures are very accurate, but still can't convey how lovely the house is. The owner was very helpful with dining suggestions and answering any question we had. The yard is huge and was a wonderful play area for our granddaughter and our dog. We truly had a fantastic time.

A++ place to stay

  • 5 of 5

There is no better getaway for us then to have that feeling of being home but on a vacation at the same time. It has that cozy relaxed feeling of being in a home ,not a timeshare, which makes it easy to settle in and enjoy from the second you arrive! It's invitable just as much for a family getaway as it is for a couples retreat. Nothing was held back when it comes to the decor and spa like treatment you can enjoy as you pick from numerous bath salts and soak in the garden tub while you enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape. The area is full of sights and history with Inns around every corner that gives you lots of choices for dining or just stay home and prepare a family dinner and sit at the grand dining room table and eat on the China and antique silverware. We can't wait to return and bring the entire family!!!
