AT HOME WITH ANTIQUES AND FINE ART

Camden House Rental Photos and Description

Barn studio with loft bedroom

Built in 2004, the art barn studio is immediately adjacent to Ten High Street, a well known antiques and fine art business that's been in continuous operation since 1947. Conceived and decorated by owners Sarah and John Ames, the barn is tucked in back of two other bulidings on the property, making it private yet accessible. It has been used primarily as the couple's guest quarters and entertainment space, but now is being offered for weekly or monthly rentals.

This spacious studio with open loft bedroom has its own front and rear entrances, modern bathroom and kitchen with new appliances. It's located on a quiet side street within easy walking to downtown Camden, Maine and its harbor, home to a fleet of Windjammer sailing vessels. The picturesque downtown features many fine shops and restaurants and in the fall and winter Camden hosts the nationally known PopTec gathering in September and the Camden Foreign Affairs Conference in February.

John Ames has run two successful art galleries in Maine, while Sarah's background was in the non-profit world of art museums. The couple joined forces in 2000 to take over Sarah's family's antique shop and turned it into a fine art and antiques business that today is open by appointment. They live on the property.

Camden is one of those places that constantly appears in national and regional guide books. The reason is simple: the town is drop dead gorgeous. Our little downtown village is filled with pretty things to buy and delicious food to eat.

In addition to the many shopping and dining opportunities in the harbor is a fleet of coastal schooners called 'windjammers'. These traditional work boats have been carefully retrofitted to carry passengers and are available for charter.

Notes:
We lived comfortably in the little barn for a whole winter a few years ago. This was before the kitchen was totally remodeled so our appliances were much more spartan. All and all it was a lovely time for us. We had the wood stove going almost constantly and we felt snug and comfortable even though the snow was never ending. The large TV, the game board, and the books kept us entertained and happy in our little nest.
