My name is Karen and this is my husband Pete. Otherwise known as KB and PB :)
We met in '05 and married the next year (the first time for both of us and the only reason we waited was because Pete's dad got 'drawn for moose'.. and I thought what??) We had a beautiful wedding in January, which is apparently, not during hunting season :) The next spring I wanted to get out of the heat and build my dream cabin and since we live in Carefree/Cave Creek, we knew that driving to Pine or the White Mountains was out of the question due to the 4 hour commute. We landed in Williams which is only 2 hours and 15 minutes door to door and with 7300' elevation, the 30 degree temperature difference was amazing! Pete is an outdoorsman from Montana and I grew up here is Scottsdale although we both were born in Michigan. Pete's family has been building custom log homes for 45 years in Montana and we were so proud to have them build this amazing masterpiece!!
Karen and Pete Baldwin purchased this cabin in 2007
The Hideout was exactly what I wanted. It was a cozy place for Pete and myself but also had space/separate living space for both families to accommodate. It is a great place for PB to go hunting and is a quick trip for me to get away from work early on a friday afternoon and escape the 110 degree temps when I leave Scottsdale and land a couple hours later with a 30+ degree temp difference!!!
Pete and I own a true custom log home. This is apparently very unique here in the desert. Although most folks say they have a 'cabin', I have learned that 'log siding' or pine trees in the yard or anything above 3000 ft elev. do not actually make a cabin. I have been corrected by the utmost authority ... apparently! :)
Awesome amenities, luxury living, an oasis in the pines. I've already booked this cabin for next year.
Our stay was just wonderful! This place truly exceeded our expectations. We enjoyed the views and the location was perfect. The cabin was spacious and clean. We enjoyed the nearby town of Williams, everyone was nice and welcoming. I wished we would've stayed longer. Pete and Karen were great, thank y'all for sharing y'all's wonderful place.
I recently stayed in this home for a few nights with my family. It was complete perfection! This home is beautiful and the owners are wonderful to deal with. Very clean and spacious. I would recommend this rental to anyone!
Planned a wonderful get-away long weekend for my siblings and family celebrating our niece's completion of chemotherapy treatment. The house was amazing and met all of our expectations after seeing the beautiful pictures on this website. Both owners, Karen and Pete, were very accommodating answering questions quickly by phone and email. They made us feel very welcome in their lovely home. Great location to explore Northern Arizona. Williams was a fun little Western town to see with Flagstaff not too far away too. Took the Grand Canyon Railway trip to visit the canyon for the day which was fun for kids and adults. Williams also offers Bearizona and the Big Toy Playground which my little nephew loved. Seeing all big equipment demonstrations and then climbing into all the equipment made his day. Wish we could have stayed longer....highly recommend!
Our extended family of 10 adults and 4 children stayed at the Baldwins' Williams secluded mountain cabin over the holidays. The house was perfect for a large group with privacy for the adults and bunks for the kids. It is tucked away in the hills for a quiet and relaxing mountain getaway; yet only a 10-minute drive into Williams for groceries or services. There was just the right amount of snow and sunshine during our stay. It is truly a magical spot that was exactly what we were seeking for a family gathering.
The Baldwins were extra helpful when I called for some guidance with the fireplace when we arrived. And overall they are professional and courteous in their dealings.
We took the Grand Canyon Express and our entire group spent a day at the canyon. We also took a drive into Flagstaff and Sedona, and we also did some nature walks. At night we bundled up to look at the stars. There are plenty of things to do in the area, but mostly you just want to relax and enjoy this beautiful house and special setting.
Since our children have grown and married we have discarded the idea of gifts for the holidays & have chosen to spend our time & finances on escaping with our kids, their spouses & our glam-babies for quality time together. We have literally been from coast to coast, choosing a different location each year. This year we chose a VRBO vacation rental over the Thanksgiving week which would allow our children to experience the Grand Canyon from the South Rim, as well as ride the "Polar Express" out of Williams.
The new fallen snow glistened as we rounded the mountain & found our way to the Baldwin's slice of heaven. This gorgeous cabin, located in a private residential area allows you to feel as though you are isolated amidst the grandeur of the Coconino Forest yet you are literally 5 minutes from downtown 'Rural America.' Location is everything!
The design of the home allowed for my husband and I to have our own space on the main floor...a beautifully open space with plenty of 'table talk' (2 dining tables) off of the gloriously gourmet kitchen. The HUGE seating area that the master bedroom and kitchen/dining spaces split, provided snuggle time for all 10 adults in one fabulous room whose huge windows frame the surrounding mountains. Breathtaking...
Downstairs, each family had their own room with yet another family room & kitchen amenities (this came in extremely handy when football games were on upstairs & disney was in demand). The home is truly a well-thought out floor plan which I could go on and on about.
But what made this trip so memorable is being able to view the outdoor scenery from inside, then walking right out the doors to explore it all! I will remember forever holding the babies hands and gathering pinecones, building a bad a*s snowman (did I just say that? well, it was!) and sharing quiet moments (some not so much) on the big couch with the big kids at the end of each day.
If you love history like I do, Williams is full of it. This charming section of old Route 66 has a story in every remaining building along its path. The Grand Canyon Railway provided the magical Polar Express experience for us all as well. And the Baldwin's...I cannot say enough about their care & concern for us while enjoying their home. Although I am a writer and had brought my Mac to work, this location does not have wifi - which, in the end, was a gift! So thank you, Karen & Pete, for trusting us with your home & sharing your piece of heaven of with us!
The Hideout is just 4 miles south of Williams, so it's easy to get to Starbucks in the am, but yet secluded in a gated subdivision on the top of 11 private acres with views of the San Francisco Peaks and the Sitgreave mountains. You cannot even see the neighbors in this quiet location with 60' Ponderosas that cover the property! Wiliiams is the last town on the old Route 66 and has a well preserved 'cowboy feel' with a shootout on Main street every evening. There are great restaurants and Ice skating and a Christmas tree lighting ceremony and of course, The Polar Express(in the winter). Kids of all ages get to wear their PJ's in town for dinner or hot chocolate before they board the railway to go see Santa!! In the spring/summer check out the zip line or local Farmer's Market . The Hideout is only 40 minutes from the Grand Canyon! It is a great base camp to hit the trails at the Grand Canyon or the many many miles of Forest Preserve that back up to the property.
This is an Outdoorsman's dream come true with fishing just down the road at Dogtown Lake, White Horse, Kaibab or at the Sante Fe Reservoir, but still backs up to the forest, which is the ultimate hunting location ...'Unit 8'!!!
