About Shawnda Marmorstein (owner) or Lindsey Nicastro (booking assistant)

We reside in Los Olivos where we stay very busy with our restaurant and wine store, the Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Cafe; managing our vineyard and making our wine under our label- Bernat Wines. We enjoy the wine country way of life and love to share it with the guests of our three rentals. The other two are on our estate property in Los Olivos. All our properties can be viewed at www.BernatRetreats.com

Why Shawnda Marmorstein (owner) or Lindsey Nicastro (booking assistant) chose Los Alamos

Los Alamos still has the feel of what California towns were like before they were all discovered. There is charm but not congestion (not yet). The weather in Los Alamos is moderate, only 15 minutes away from Los Olivos but a respite from summer heat.

What makes this cottage unique

This property is in a quiet residential neighborhood near the school. Attached to the main house with it's own private entrance and yard. Ideally located a couple blocks from Quackenbush where you can get your cup of coffee and delicious fresh baked goodie before busying yourself in Antique store heaven or a day of wine tasting. There is a giant antique mall and a few other boutique antique stores that will inspire and entertain if you choose to stay in town.

Great place!!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the Los Alamos Retreat couldn't have been better. Quiet neighborhood, nice furnishings, comfortable bed, clean and quiet. We had great communication with owner/manager of property. All in all, we loved our stay at this little gem and would definitely recommend the Los Alamos Retreat!

We Loved It!!! Comfortable, Cozy Cottage in a Great Location

  • 5 of 5

We highly recommend this property and will most definitely be back! The Los Alamos Retreat was perfect--we are very familiar with the area but it was wonderful to have our own little house in the quiet neighborhood. We felt so at home while on our trip, very relaxing.

It was great to have the kitchen equipped with everything needed to make breakfast there every morning before we headed out for the day. We brought a cooler up with us filled with treats from the Farmer's Market.

While such a small town, Los Alamos is a great location for simply amazing food, great antique stores and wine tasting. The owners had left a very complete list of recommendations for the area, some we had not visited before. On this visit, Full of Life Flatbread, Bell Street Farms, Los Olivos Wine Merchant & Café, Union Hotel Wine Bar, Clairmont Lavender Farm in Los Olivos, Arroyo Grande antique stores, Sycamore Springs spa in Avila Beach and the antique stores in Los Alamos, awesome bakery across from Depot antiques. Lots of pretty country to drive through. The owners were quickly responsive to any questions we had. Very easy to coordinate with.

We hope to be back soon!!!

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review! Los Alamos is yet to be discovered on a large scale, which is part of its charm, so most people don't know what there is to do if they were to come to "little L.A." You really did explore our whole area. It makes me want to be a tourist for the day! Thank you!!! Shawnda & Sam

Cozy Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Stayed at the Los Alamos Retreat over Thanksgiving while we visited relatives in the area. Very comfortable bed and super large bathroom. Ate at Cafe Quakenbush. Smoked pork sandwich and hamburgers were delicious. Save room for their decadent chocolate cake. Walked around town. Great place to relax and unwind.

We stayed in the Los Alamos Retreat while visiting wine country. What a slice of heaven it is! It was cozy, the bed (and pillows) was very comfortable and it felt like being home while on vacation. All of the recommendations from the owners were 100% accurate. We loved the location and of course the proximity to everywhere we were visiting! We highly recommend this property. We will definitely be back!

Great spot, very comfortable

  • 5 of 5

This is a really nice, comfortable spot to while away a few days in Los Alamos. The space is private, cozy and has everything you'd want. The bikes are great, and you're a few blocks walk from all the great eats on Bell St. Highly recommended.

Impeccable!

  • 5 of 5

Sam and Shawnda, owners of the property know how to make you feel right at home. From the time we pulled into the driveway, we knew we were in for a great stay. Every detail was meticulously maintained and it proved to be a great few days away.

Prior to arriving, we stopped and had a scrumptious lunch at their Los Olivos Cafe. We sampled their wines and were very pleased with our selections. Needless to say, on our last day we returned to their restaurant for breakfast and used the gift card they left for us in the home. What a great way to start the day! We will definitely return and also check out their other properties when we travel with friends. Be sure to indulge yourself for dinner at the SY Kitchen and The Red Barn! And on yeah....the little town of Los Alamos is charming. Great wine spot at the Wine Saloon. It's walking distance from the Bernat property.
