this historic shotgun home is a lovers' or writer's paradise (saint's fan is implicit)!! it is in the quiet, historic Algiers point area of New Orleans. the quarter and city is only a ferry ride or a 10 minute cab ride away. you can be in New Orleans but not 'of' New Orleans....get the feel of the old historic New Orleans.
2 bedrooms (but can sleep 6), 1 bath, parlor room and living area.
i live in memphis and in new orleans and travel to nola whenever my schedule allows!!
there is NO place like nola!
connie purchased this house in 2013
this property is a quaint shotgun house built in 1931, with the original claw foot tub!
algiers point is an eclectic neighborhood of locals that gives you the true feel of new orleans.
this home is a quaint dollhouse/cottage with a fenced backyard for animal lovers.
it can be a respite from your busy life, or a haven after a typical nola weekend! party then rest in quiet serenity.
this is the cutest house! i loved being in an historic neighborhood during the day and in the quarter at night.
i was able to bring my doggie with also!
the owner was exceptionally easy to work with.
we will be back!!
we rented this house for a week stay in new orleans with our dogs. It was close to everything. The fenced in yard is perfect for pets. The ferry to the city is a close walk. we had a blast and I would stay here again.
My girlfriend and I decided to have a fun vacation. We never thought of renting a home before. She has a dog so it would be nice to have a backyard for the dog. So we found the house and my girlfriend was super nervous about the area because she never had been there before! After staying there, we loved the house and the location! The house was also bigger than we thought! We decided to stay there for one more night. Connie was great to accommodate whatever we needed. She told us a few places to check out. We did and those places were great! My girlfriend was in love with a place called "Tout De Suite." She loves an entree called "Katina." Now this cafe becomes her favorite place. We decided that we would rent this house whenever we go to NOLA. We loved the ferry!! Cheap, quick, and fun!!! You won't be sorry when you rent this house! We will be sure to tell our loved ones about this rent!
From the pictures on the website... I assumed the house would be small and quaint, quaint it was but small it was not. It was quite spacious and ever accommodating. The location couldn't have been more ideal. It's literally a 10 min drive from all things Mardi Gras, which is good - cause it allowed peace and quite when we slept, versus being in the heart of it all 24/7. The place was clean and welcoming - definitely recommend this stay to future guests.
We booked this house to stay for the weekend of RnR marathon, however it was unseasonably cold in nola (around 30 degrees)!! Upon arrival, we loved the house and it had everything we needed except adequate heat. We ended up only staying one night due to freezing temps in the house even with one furnace and 2 space heaters. Connie went above and beyond and offered to refund our money! She was so great and easy to get in contact with! She was so great to work with. If the weather had been warmer this house would have been perfect. It's about a 12 minute walk to the ferry, and the ferry drops you off very close to the French Quarter.
My mother and I chose to stay in this lovely home rather than a hotel for a more local experience with extra space and charm. Booking was a snap and Connie was very easy to work with and very prompt in answering questions.
Upon arrival we were thrilled with the home - the decor is appropriate and comfortable and everything seemed in working order.
A couple of suggestions following our stay of almost one week:
If it is cold outside - the house is COLDER. We were subjected to a cold snap and while one furnace worked occasionally the other never did. A small space heater tried it's best but nothing could compete with mother nature and the lack of insulation. Connie was very solicitous in offering to send someone to look at the heater and suggested we purchase another electric unit which she would reimburse us for - the heater seemed to be working - until it wasn't - and the local stores were cleaned out of space heaters. Clearly this is not a problem unique to this home! We froze and were not warm again until we got back to the northeast!
Some electrical outlets in the house are wonky and could use some tlc. The tub, while lovely, is high and a could pose a challenge for older, less flexible folks to get in and out of easily.
The hot water is HOT - a note to that effect would be appreciated.
A more detailed note about the house and the area in general would be a nice addition - an Algiers map - a list of local places, closest grocery etc.
The towels could use replacing - many are stained and tattered. And some extra hooks in the bathroom would provide a place to hang them for the next day's use.
Park in the driveway, not on the street. Our rental car parked on the street was involved in a hit and run - too much Nola cheer probably - but it was a drag and we regret having left the car there rather than in the driveway.
Just a few little changes and some attention to these details could make this home even cozier and more welcoming for guests. That said we would certainly consider staying here again - AFTER we check the forecast!
It's a sweet home - Connie was an absolute delight to work with and, despite our challenges, we enjoyed our time at this little gem of a residence.
Our family had the pleasure of renting this cottage in historic algiers point! Writhing walking distance of the ferry and several local bars/food establishments, one felt the best of both worlds in visiting NOLA. We can't wait to stay in this well appointed shotgun style cottage. Connie was a pleasure to work with!
