A native of Cleveland's suburb Independence brought up in an ethnic Polish home with twin sister and two brothers, I began a great business career and decided to move to Montreal, Quebec, 'because I loved it' for 7 years wherein my love of different cultures, cuisine and travel created the Old Stone House Bed and Breakfast when I returned home to Ohio, 'If I can't get out into the world, I'll have the world come to me' as this new venture in my life provided the flexibility to be a stay-at-home mom.
Children grow and go away and I attended more school to become a licensed Intervention Specialist which apart from the hospitality business is my career.
I speak conversational French, love to swim, bike, hike, listen to music of all genres, read and study and look forward to my guests and making memories at the Old Stone House.
Darcy Miller purchased this house in 1987
Always a dreamer I envisioned one day of living in the country complete with old wagon under an apple tree and lots of fields.
Stone architecture of historic Quebec and France made me love this unique post and beam Greek Revival sandstone home with deep 19' window wells; a foundation 2 feet thick; 'bluestone' sandstone indigenous of Ohio's Lake Erie region; chestnut floors and a history of ownership marked by the English gentlemen of the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812.
The Old Stone House is situated on a hill overlooking fields, woods and pastures and is located among a predominantly Amish community connecting the past to the present. It is a comfort of serenity, beauty and love. Truly a blessing to share this with all those who come here.
I stayed at this lovely bed and breakfast on July 26-27, 2013. I was attending my Cardinal High School Class of '67 reunion and wanted to be close to the venue, which was just a few miles away. Since I was raised in the area, I was excited about my trip. Staying at the Old Stone House was icing on the cake. I really had no great expectations when I made the reservation, but on arriving at this beautiful home, I was really happy I made my weekend reservation there. I immediately felt "at home" when I met Darcy. What a great hostess! We sat and talked about the area, and Darcy gave me some information on people that I wanted to try to find from my childhood. Since I was traveling alone, Darcy and her friend even invited me to accompany them to a winery on Saturday evening, and we had a great time! The Old Stone House is a "must" whenever I stay in the area from now on!!!! My room was tastefully decorated, very neat and clean, and quiet (except for the occasional clip-clop of the buggies on the road). Breakfast was great, and I enjoyed talking with the other guests. You won't be sorry you stayed at the Old Stone House,
We have stayed at the Stone House on at least 4 occasions and it is a welcome change from the generic motel options which are NO where close to this destination....My husbands family has an annual reunion nearby and we are usually traveling with upper 80 year old family members. Darcy, the always accomodating owner, makes sure we are properly placed in the home for easy access for the elders. The use of the kitchen and family room are a big bonus as well! The rooms are very clean and have many nice touches.Great history in "Mespo"; check out the commons which is an easy walk from the house and if you like cemetary art this one is not to be missed!
