Overview

Dunnellon Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Uncork your spirit & indulge in the phenomenal rainbow river on a property with an ancient phosphate mine & whimsical past.

This wonderful old Florida cabin, circa 1940, celebrates the charm of the era in a very romantic & cozy setting. The open 600 sf layout of this cabin is very comfortable and perfect for only one couple. The screened porch looks out over the picturesque Rainbow River offering 116' of pristine river frontage. You will encounter otters, wood ducks, turtles, foxes & exceptional birding, along with other forms of wildlife.

Explore this unique river on our kayaks or canoe should you choose to indulge. Fish or dive off our dock where vast fishing opportunity abounds. (dock mooring is available for rental boat). We furnish a gas BBQ grill for your outdoor dining pleasure & fire pit to relax by in the evenings.

This historic river property steeped in Florida history, nestled in a very serene setting on 1.5 acres of towering pines & majestic oaks, is very much like a storybook. The property boast an ancient phosphate mine, excavated during the Dunnellon boom days, circa late 1800's. This phosphate mine was bridged over to access the cabin & river.

Wondering about the property literally brings you back in time in a park like setting. You will enjoy the natural flora & fauna, some of which could be considered prehistoric, such as the large mastodon fossils in the phosphate mine, which can be viewed. Many of the majestic pines are centuries old & history reveals they have been used for turpentine harvesting. Come and take a stroll through our beautiful property which we have been blessed with.

There is also a small vineyard on this land, and if in season, wine may be available for tasting. The property has two cabins, the owner lives in one of them.

Home away from home... what a wonderful experience!

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I were on the search for a quiet, peaceful getaway - the opposite from the business that Miami has to offer. We found this location and thought the pictures looked very nice and decided to give it a try. When we pulled in we were in absolute awe. The curved driveway greeted you with a surprise at every turn. This property is so well kept and you are able to marvel at the breathtaking nature that surrounds you. We would wake up early in the morning and go down to the deck with our coffee in hand and catch the river covered in fog with the birds flying right above it while listening to the woodpeckers peck away. Whimsical is a great word to define this amazing place. You have the serenity of the river on one side and if you decide to go towards the front of the property you are surrounded by huge trees, making you feel like you are in the middle of the woods. They have seating all throughout the property providing you with the opportunity to just sit and relax and breathe it all in. The cabin was clean, the bed was soooo comfortable, they even provided you with movies you can choose from - it had everything you needed to make you feel at home. We opted to sleep with the windows and blinds open and we have to say that waking up to that view was surreal. From our window you could see the bottom of the river of how clear the water was. At night we cooked our dinner in the bbq which was provided. Now I could sit here and rave about the location for days but what was the icing on the cake were the hosts - hands down. Mike and Nancy really take your experience to a whole new level. Their hospitality, knowledge and history about the property, sweet and kind demeanor is such a breath of fresh air. You definitely leave here better than how you came in. It was a blessing to find this home away from home and to meet and share life with such wonderful individuals. Two days was far too short of a time. We will surely be back for much longer next time!

Exceptional Florida Escape. Six stars!

  • 5 of 5

We've done dozens of vacation rentals for over 20 yrs. and this was one of the very best, if not the best. This place is way better than the photos. The grounds are beautiful and everything is meticulously maintained. The cabin is so cozy, very clean and the bed is real comfortable. We'll never forget sitting in the large screened porch and listening to the rain and thunderstorms on our roof and over the river. The river is indescribable for kayaking, swimming, snorkeling or just exploring and observing the beauty and wildlife. The area has lots to offer. We were there during the week so there was little river traffic and it was very quiet.

We came to Florida for the beaches but, on advice of family, went inland and discovered something spectacular. A tropical wilderness we never knew existed.

Ironically, this is only the second time we actually met the owners of a vacation property. We're not the B&B type so we do vacation rentals in order to have a nice, quiet vacation and not have to deal with people too much. We were a little wary knowing that the owners are right on the same 1 1/2 acres but Nancy and Michael are truly exceptional people. You get a brief tour and then they make it clear that you have the run of the property, use of the kayaks, canoe, dock and grounds without any interference. But if you have questions they are right there to help. And, besides, you wouldn't want to miss getting to know these remarkably generous and interesting people. We really hope to get back there.

Peaceful

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a long weekend at the cabin and it was amazing. So peaceful right off the river. We experienced the town's Cracker Festival at the state park, canoed up river to the spring head and enjoyed great meals at Loafer's and Blue Gators. The weekend was relaxing and just what we had hoped for. Mike and Nancy were great hosts! We are looking forward to coming back again sometime soon.

Our Happy Place

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time that we have visited this whimsical place and it won't be our last! We absolutely adore Mike and Nancy, they are truly wonderful hosts and make it a point to provide a beautiful enviroment to relax and recharge. We love to take full advantage of all that this beautiful place has to offer - fishing on the dock, kayaking up the river, canoe rides on the river, hiking the State park, roasting marshmallows at night, cooking on the grill and eating our meals on the screened in patio over looking the river as well as long walks along the property and enjoying the new beautiful gazebo that sits in the middle of everything. THIS IS OUR HAPPY PLACE... if you are looking for a getaway that offers a little adventure but also gives you the opportunity to relax and enjoy some peace and quiet - this is your place!

Total relaxation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I recently stayed at the cabin for a long weekend and had a fantastic time. We spent a lot of time on the screened porch reading and watching the people tubing down the river. We also took the time to use the kayaks including kayaking all the way to Swampy's and back.

The owners Nancy and Michael are fantastic and have set up the property so that it is pure relaxation in a very peaceful settings, while at the same time giving the guests the opportunity to have adventures on the river.

We cannot wait to go back on another trip when we can have more time to enjoy the tranquility.
