Clean Well Furnished And Priced For The Budget Conscience Renters. Great New Kitchen
One Block From A Great Little Beach And Great Neighborhoods To Walk In.
The apartment is nicely remodeled inside, and was clean and welcoming inside. The beach is one block downhill - and is a private feeling sandy cove with smooth rock outcroppings where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful blue water and the waves. We were watching the surfers off to the left one morning, when right in front of us a pod of dolphins popped up! They hovered around for a while, and then started to surf the waves right in front of us. We also saw a seal and pelicans the next morning. A great way to start your morning!
We were travelling with our two teenage daughters who slept in the large sofabed in the living room with their own TV. The bed in the bedroom was large and comfortable. The unit was adequately stocked with clean linens and towels, as well as soap, shampoo and conditioner. There was dish soap and paper towels in the kitchen. There was a binder on the dining table that contained instructions for the two TVs and some information on places nearby. It was useful to know where the nearest supermarket was.
The La Jolla area is beautiful, and there are a variety of restaurants nearby. San Diego and Coronado are about 20 minutes away.
The owners were quick to respond to inquiries on VRBO, and sent the contract via email.
The downsides are very minor. First, from the outside the building (triplex!) looks a little older, with some peeling paint. One of the wooden steps leading up to the unit was loose. My husband wondered aloud what I had gotten us into. However the inside is beautiful and new. The unit faces La Jolla Blvd., which is a wide street traffic with a fair amount of traffic. However it gets very quiet at night, and with the window open we could even hear the waves in the distance. The kitchen has the basics (plates, drinkware, silverware and a couple of pots), which is good for fixing a quick breakfast, but not for doing major cooking. There is no dishwasher, so you'll have to wash your breakfast dishes by hand. That's fine for me - but it would be nice if they added a dish drainer.
We enjoyed our stay at this property. We are frequent users of VRBO and this was one of the better properties we have rented. It was clean and presented as shown in the photos and features off-street parking with its own garage. This is a real plus for an urban vacation property It is also only a few blocks from the shoreline and beach and in a prosperous area. It met our needs very well. One caveat is that it is located on a major thoroughfare so there is considerable traffic noise during the day. However, we were rarely there at that time and the traffic dwindled to almost nothing by 11:00 PM, so we slept well with the windows open. We prefer to cook most of our own meals and the kitchen meet our needs. A minor complaint is that there were no basic kitchen linens or a dish rack, but we managed with little inconvenience. This is a good value for a vacation property in an exclusive area. We would stay here again.
My husband and I stayed the month of January in the apartment and loved our visit. The apartment is as described. It was fairly newly remodeled, clean and was ample space for the two of us. We frequently used the kitchen and BBQ area, which made our stay quite reasonable. If easy access to the beach and surrounding neighborhood, including downtown La Jolla is important to you, this apartment is a gem. We walked two blocks to the beautiful Wind and Sea beach everyday to watch surfers, read, or see the awesome sunsets. It is a 40 minute, 1.5 mile walk by the boardwalk and through the neighborhood to midtown La Jolla. Perfect!
There is parking in front of the unit but we used the garage space provided. Also, there are pay washers and dryers in the garage area. Chelsea was our contact if we needed anything and she was attentive, prompt and a pleasure to work with. We would rent this apartment again.
Apartment was exactly as advertised; reasonably priced, comfortable, and conveniently located in La Jolla. Kitchen is reasonably well stocked, important for us as we cooked several simple meals. At one point we lost connection with the WiFi and the management team fixed the problem within an hour, very responsive and easy to work with generally. Plenty of street parking. I would recommend and would rent again if we are in the area.
This property was exactly as it was advertised. It is a great cost effective condo very close to the beach. We found this be a great alternative to a hotel reservation.
The apartment is very clean and quite comfortable. However, I don't believe it is set up to actually cook a full meal, as some of the basic amenities that are necessary to live for any length of time are lacking. Such as: soap to wash hands / soap dish to put the soap in if you happen to bring your own, dish cloth or brush to wash dishes, drying rack to dry dishes (only two dish towels are provided and we found no dish cloths). There was one box of tissue in the unit but only four or five tissues in it. There was olive oil to use but no spices other than salt & pepper and those were almost empty; no plastic wrap or tin foil for storage, no storage containers -- just the bare minimum is provided. So you will have to make a trip to the store upon arrival or bring the essentials with you. We found it to be cheaper and easier just to eat out. Other VRBO's that we have rented provided the essentials that were needed to cook (oils/spices/condiments etc. and the kitchen tools( towels /cleaning supplies etc) that would be required to cook and clean-up afterwards.
It was hot while we were there and they have very nice ceiling fans in the living & bedroom that work well in cooling the place down if you open the windows that are able to be opened and the front door (no screen door).
The bed is comfortable and a variety of pillows are provided to meet most needs. Like others have said, the street in front of the unit is busy but we didn't have trouble finding parking. It's just a short walk to a few restaurants and to the beach. And just a little farther walk to other shops and restaurants.
Overall, we were comfortable in the unit but expected more of the everyday necessities for living to be provided. Consequently, we would probably suggest looking for a place with a more complete kitchen set-up if you truly want to cook.
