There is a grocery store/corner market conveniently located across the street, H&W Market. It opens at 830am and closes late on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays. It has coffee and a very good deli with a variety of fresh, made-to-order sandwiches. Other deli items include lasagna, tamales, cheeses, macaroni & potato salads, etc.... for those late night hunger pains.
Up the street to your right as you leave the building, on Fillmore Street is a local coffee shop, Alamo Square Cafe has plenty of breakfast goodies and good coffee to choose from.
Also nearby is a mini mall that has a large supermarket, SAFEWAY... south of the apt (left on Webster St when you leave the building) just about a half a mile down the road.
There is an additional fee if you wish to have daily towel and daily linen service by our housekeeper/host. There is a coin-operated laundromat conveniently located at the corner from the apartment with last wash 75 minutes before closing. Our apologies but we cannot offer this as an amenity at this time. The blower/jets work but it takes a very, very long time to heat up. The wiring will be changed out at a later date.
We are centrally located in the heart of SF. Alamo Square / Hayes Valley is one of the most vibrant and revitalized neighborhoods in San Francisco. It includes wine bars, cafes, five-star restaurants, high-end boutiques, clubs, bars, close to movie theaters, Civic Center/City Hall, museums, the symphony & the Opera House and much more. Public transportation is very convenient with a bus line right across the street if you want to head downtown (21 Hayes). The 5 Fulton line is just 2 blocks away.
You can find some of the best coffee and foods in this part of the city and much more in the nearby districts. Also within 1 mile walking distance is the Fillmore District which offers the same with a handful of jazz clubs to enjoy. You have the Painted Ladies to the right and City Hall to the left, Western Addition behind you and the Lower Haight in front of you. Great spot to be!
I suggest to use public transportation. The 21 HAYES is right outside of our apartment! This convenient bus line will take you directly downtown and connects onto other bus lines that will bring you to other neighborhoods throughout the city. Another bus line close by is the 5 FULTON which is only 2 blocks south of us (behind the apt). It's only a 10 minute walk to Van Ness MUNI station, and 15 minute walk to Civic Center MUNI station for BART and other MUNI lines.
MUNI is an integral part of public transit in our city, operating year round and connecting with regional transportation services, such as BART, Caltrain, SamTrans, and AC Transit.
ADULT FARE: $2.25
CHILDREN: $.75c (ages 5 - 17yrs)
The city's lone subway tube is called MUNI Metro; also 3 cable car lines, and a heritage streetcar line known as the F Market & Wharves. MUNI shares 4 metro stations with BART. Travelers can connect onto San Francisco & Oakland International Airports via BART.
Convenient for driving. We do not have a garage. Parking is very expensive here in SF!! FREE parking can be found on our residential streets nearby. Metered parking are on most business areas. Located just off highways 101, 280, and 80. VERY EASY ACCESS to the freeway and only 2 mins away from our apt which leads you right to Oakland Airport and the SF International Airport.
You can explore many nearby neighborhoods by walking a mile or two in every direction from the apt.
Other Things to Note:
This building still has the original narrow staircase from the 1900's. The spiral staircase was removed so you can get through with your suitcases!
We have a small water heater so it's best to take short, quick showers in order to have enough hot water to go around for a large group...especially since we are experiencing a drought/water shortage in CA.
At present, the hot tub cannot be offered as an amenity at this time. The blower/jets work but it takes quite a while to heat up. The wiring will be changed out from 110 to 220v at a later date. Our apologies.
The main closet is 3/4 full of the owner's personal belongings and clothing. You may hang some of your clothes there if you wish or hang your clothes on the suit rack provided or on the rack in the second bedroom.
There will be an additional fee for laundry service if you want more towels other than what was provided and/or linen service. Please be considerate of our water shortage/drought in CA.
There is a key/knob for the skylight windows in the island drawer if you wish to open and/or close them. You can open the back door to the deck to catch a gentle breeze.

This place is great. Great location - in Hayes Valley. Great apartment. Great host.
It's someone's house so don't expect a hotel room, but this is better. It's the top floor of a Victorian house built in 1900. The view from the balcony is grand. (Be prepared to climb steps though.) It sleeps 7 easily and there are plenty of couch's. It is fully furnished and the kitchen has everything one could need. It is a large flat that is lived-in when not rented.
Evelyn took wonderful care of us and would have shopped and cleaned for us had we needed that. She keeps the place spotless. Evelyn, thanks for the wonderful gift. Denise is the owner and, Denise, thank you for coming by on Christmas to say hello. Your hospitality is truly appreciated.
This is a good choice for many reasons.
Very nice hostess. Balcony has spectacular view. Everything we needed (lots of towels, bedding). Location was great. Very easy access to transportation. One downfall-- it was too warm in rental. Not a lot of windows that will open to let in fresh air. Owner should provide fans for circulation especially for sleeping.
Looking to save on a hotel for 5 on a girls weekend, we found this place in the Hayes Valley neighborhood of SF. The place is larger than it looks in the pictures with plenty of sleeping space, ample towels, serviceable kitchen, small deck with great city views, lots of subtle but awesome artwork including the stairwell which featured old articles about the owners (I think) family and their history in SF. This is an old building - squeaky stairwells but tons of character. The neighborhood has lots of great bars and restaurants and parks in walking distance. Was told by some locals the 'hood used to be real bad so while still in "up and coming" stage, I felt real safe. I do live in a major city so am used to walking with caution, others may not. Heads up always in any city. People do live here so don't expect empty drawers for your stuff. In the back bedroom, there was an empty rack with plenty of hangars - enough for all our stuff. Lots of big TVs throughout. Great deck for winding down with a bottle or 4 of wine. Didn't use the hot tub - way too much to do in the neighborhood. The water heater is small so space out showers if you are with more than 2. During the day the place can get hot since it is on the 3rd floor (easy walk up) but cools down at night. For the price, you can't beat this place. Clean, comfy, character, cool. 4Cs. The front bedroom had two rooms, one door. One room had a double with a single next to it; the other room a pullout sofa bed which I was told was comfy. If you are used to five star accomodations - pass. This is a home and has all the comforts of home.
Located on the 3rd floor of a typical SF townhouse. Much larger on the inside than on the outside. 3 flights of steps to the top may be a struggle for those less mobile and with heavy luggage. However once inside the property, definitely worth the hike! Every room is kitted out with large flatscreen tv's, full wifi throughout the property, the kitchen is a large communal area and has all the mod cons you would expect in your own home. Best of all - the view from the balcony overlooking downtown SF! The property is in prime location, a 5 minute downhill walk and you've reached a plethora of upscale restaurants and bars that are buzzing every night of the week. Would happily stay here again.
This was my first VRBO experience ever, So I have nothing to compare to. The location was good and felt like a real local neighborhood complete with a couple of small deli's nearby which had very friendly people working in them. LOTS of stairs to climb to get to the top floor (I didn't realize this from initial ad) so if anyone has issues with climbing this is not the place for you. The actual apartment was fine but very lived in. There were clothes in closets and it sort of felt like we were in someone else's actively used bedroom. If this is normal I didn't know it. The hot tub is in the floor with a cover on it and it was empty. We didn't feel like we should hassle it so we never used it, but the ad implies a lovely hot tub ready to go. There were 6 adults and teenagers on this visit and we always felt we had plenty of room to be together or in separate spaces in the apt. Since it was Christmas Day I went to the nearby Safeway and got fixings for a nice ham dinner. However there were only 4 large dinner plates and no regular drinking glasses so we used small plates and bowls and bought some solo cups for our sodas and juices and milk. We could have used a set of mixing bowls too. There was a shortage of bath towels and no kitchen towels anywhere. We opted not to use the pull out sofa as it had no appeal at all and two people slept on the very comfy sofas but we didn't have enough bedding. The other two beds were fine. Loved the small back deck and the weather was beautiful for evening visits. Just down Hayes St there is a ton of shops and restaurants and the best pizza I have ever had! If you are used to a super sterile, super clean place like a 5 star hotel this is not for you. But if you like the idea of being in a real friendly, diverse neighborhood with easy access to sights via public transportation you will love this location.
No recomendable
