Guestbook comments from the manager

From the minute we drove up to the house we were in love. As you pull into the driveway you have a spectacular view of the waipio valley and it only gets better when you get into the house. The house is fantastic, nothing has been overlooked. The lanai is the place to relax, enjoy the view and listen to the surf, although you can do this from inside as well. The furnishings were first class. The master bedroom is huge, the bed was super comfortable, and the sliders to the lanai (with great outdoor shower) was perfect. The master also has a huge walk in closet and bath with jacuzzi tub. The main part of the house was very warm ,with dining, living and kitchen(fully stocked) all in one area - plenty of room. As there were only 2 of us we didn't even go into the other wing, but the rooms were all large and nicely appointed. Everything is new and I can't say enough about how nice this house is and how much we felt at home there. There is also a great in-law suite downstairs. Ron - the property manager, was available for our few questions. Thanks Ron! The town of honokaa has a nice grocery store, gas stations, restaurants, and shops to poke around in, about 10-15min. drive. Lastly, the biggest draw for this home is the valley itself. It is truly a sacred place. I never tired of looking at the view - you can see from all over the house. You can explore by walking down, or driving if you dare. If you have a chance, stay in this house, you'll be happy you did.

Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

Awesome Property

This was our first trip to Hawaii. We enjoyed our stay right on top of Wapio Valley. The view is breathtaking, the house is comfortable and has everything the vacationers need. The manager is very nice and helpful.

Good for the soul.

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at Waipio valley for three weeks in December. The place is just as staggering as it looks in the photos, if not moreso. The view took my breath away every time I saw it...when I woke up, at my morning coffee, or when showering in the world's most scenic shower. The house is spacious, modern, well kept and gorgeous. There was plenty of room for our party of seven. Danelle had decorated the house with Hawaii appropriate Christmas decorations, and was available whenever we needed her. The groundskeeper Rhavi was very knowledgable about the area, the island, it's produce and it's culture. With his advice we prepared an island style Christmas Eve dinner with crockpot kalua pork, taro and lau laus. The hike down the valley is pretty steep but worth it, we went down every other day to see the creek, the beach, the waves. We bought grocer in honokaa which had everything we could need, including good options for food sensitivities. For beach days, we drove 60 mins to the Kohala coast. The Volcano Park was only an hour and a half away, so we were able to spend multiple days exploring craters and lava fields. We had an amazing stay at the property, with lovely surprises around each corner. Dan was quick to be in contact as well. Recommended! We hope to go back someday, to let the serenity of that valley touch our souls again!

Unbeateable Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Wow....Wow....Wow. The only possible reason to say anything negative about this place would be to try and ensure availability when we want to come back. Most places don't live up to their pictures and reputation but this place truly does and even exceeds expectations. The only thing that didn't live up to its reputation was the road down to the beach, which is probably a good thing. It is very steep and uneven but, with a proper vehicle, is well within the capabilities of almost all drivers. So don't let the road scare you away from enjoying the valley.

Owner's Response: An unexpected fire occurred where we get regular rain! It was the recommendation of the Fire department to prepare to leave, but in the end the fire stopped. I'm sorry for that and had reduced the rate for our guest prior to this review. We do not stock coffee, as sometimes the bags will be taken as gifts. But there was some two weeks prior to our guests stay. The TV's are on Dish and we have numbers to call, but our guest had reported this to the maintenance person, and never got to our manager, Danelle. Usually Dish can walk anyone through the problems. We are remote, no cable is available and we are on a water catchment system, but we do have a view of the ocean better than any resort. We lack amenities like cable, but I like the beach and surfing, and vast views of the ocean better.

Beautiful Vacation Home

  • 5 of 5

This Vacation Rental is immaculately clean, tastefully decorated, and spacious enough for a large family. The lanai alone is bigger than most condos you could rent. Waking up to that view every morning, and being serenaded every night by ...I think they were "coqui" tree frogs...provides an unforgettable setting for a vacation in Hawaii.

It is even better in person than the pictures suggest. The island is very large, so you are going to do some driving if you want to see other areas, but it is actually not that far from the house to Hilo (Botanical Garden, Akaka Falls) Wailea (ranchlands, Ponolu) or to the other side (Kona). If you visit this island and don't spend any time on the tropical (east) side where this home is located, then you are definitely missing out.

The kitchen is well-equipped, and there is a gorgeous, large dining table inside, as well as a dining area on the lanai. The home is very spacious and comfortable, and yes, the view IS spectacular...we miss it already!

There is a great grocery store in Honokaa town, and "Gramma's" is a wonderful restaurant that has something for everyone.

AMAZING HOUSE with an Amazing View that's AMAZINGLY clean!!!

  • 5 of 5

I live here on the Big Island and with the high cost of flying my family & I take "stay-cations" and I have to say this house made this staycation the BEST one yet. The view is just breath taking and the fact you get to enjoy it all to yourselves morning, noon and night just awesome.

The cost is unbeatable when comparing to other vacation rentals and much more in expensive when comparing it to N. Kona resorts. We felt like we had the pent house sweet of a 5 star resort minus the hassle you encounter with resorts--parking issues, room keys non-operable, crowds, hearing neighbors noises, et et. Here park right next to your front door without having to wait for the valet!

Booking, checking-in and out super easy and not complicated... Having a 4WD is best so you can get down in the Valley to take advantage of the swimming in both the river and the ocean--as long as the sea is not too rough. Our first day the swell was huge so we swam and played in the river. The second and third day my children (ages 3.5 & 7) boogie boarding for HOURS in the shore break. The front lawn is gorgeous, but yes it is pretty exposed; we made a rule the kids could ONLY play on the grass with an adult--just to be safe & sound...

Hands down this vacation rental is the cleanest, nicest, most spacious and BEST view I have yet to encounter! Yes, we will be back--you CANNOT go wrong with this vacation rental. Pictures do not do it justice; it was truly an experience of a lifetime! Mahalo & Aloha :) Hope to be back soon!

You can find some additional info about the area at dannat.net/waipio. An intro video shows how easy it is to get to the house.

There are two different horseback groups in the valley and both go through streams and are more relaxed and free with your use of the horses. A favorite of my girls.

There are boggy boards and a surfboard if you want to try the waves, an intermediate wave beach but favorite of locals.

Local guided tours of the valley can be arranged. Multiple trails so be sure and bring your hiking shoes, water shoes.

Notes:
Located on the northern Hamakua Coast, the sacred Waipio Valley was the boyhood home of King Kamehameha I, and an important center for political and religious life in Hawaii. Not only is 'The Valley of the Kings' an important site for Hawaiian history and culture, it's also a place of dramatic tropical beauty. This fertile valley is about one mile across and over five-miles deep, and surrounded by cliffs up to 2000-feet high. Waipio Valley was once the home of thousands of Native Hawaiians. Today, there are less than 100 residents living amongst the waterfalls, taro fields and rivers permeating the valley. Hawaii Island's tallest waterfall, Hiilawe Falls cascades down 1,300 feet in the back of Waipio. You can view the valley from the coastal Waipio Valley Overlook at the end of the Hamakua Heritage Corridor drive, or you can take a guided van tour, hike, or horseback ride to explore the hidden wonders within.
