A beautiful country home, three miles from Ballinrobe, in the heart of the western lake district, and within easy reach of Loughs Mask and Carra, as well as Croagh Patrick, Westport, Castlebar, Knock, Galway and Connemara.
Relaxed and comfortable, the house is large, open plan lay-out downstairs; clean and modern though in traditional style. It is wheelchair accessible. Ideal for friends, families and children, the large utility room is designed for outdoor pursuits. The area is a magnet for fishermen, golfers and hikers, and it's a great place for heritage holidays. Pets welcome for a small additional charge: there is also an outside dog run, stables and a kennel.
The house has four large bedrooms, and sleeps a maximum of ten. Three have double beds with an extra single bed in two. The fourth bedroom has three single beds. There is also a large wooden cot, a travel cot, plus other equipment for small people.
The house is surrounded by fields, lawns, flower and vegetable gardens. All are enclosed by hedges and a gate. Beyond the fields there are lovely views across the Westport hills, over which the sun sets in the evening. There's a welcoming open fire, with fresh eggs and scones on arrival.
The market town of Ballinrobe is situated between world class trout lakes, an 18 hole golf course and the world's most beautiful race course: all within ten minute's drive.
Shops, pub, restaurants, lake beaches: 3 miles.
The property is 5 miles from Ballintubber Abbey; 10 miles from Ashford Castle, Cong, Lough Corrib and extensive forests.
Ireland West International Airport, (Knock) is just a 45 minute's drive from the property and railway stations at Claremorris or Castlebar are 30 minutes. It is within easy reach of the N6 and N4 from Dublin.

I am a TV journalist working in Dublin, so I ask for enquiries to be made by email in the first instance. My neighbour Mary looks after the house, and makes sure that guests have everything they need, including complimentary fresh eggs and turf for a fire on arrival.
Roxboro Lodge is a great base to explore the west of Ireland from Galway to Sligo. It's perfect for lovers of the outdoors from walkers to fishermen. It's also perfect for indoor pursuits including researching family history. It's within a few miles of the great western lakes, yet a stone's throw from the Atlantic and mountains of Connemara. It has a large utility room, perfect for drying fishing and hiking gear, wellies and pets.
It is also a beautiful home, with and a great place to unwind; wheelchair friendly and safe for children and pets with an enclosed garden. This is a modern property designed in tradition style within the last ten years. It has antique tiles; an open fire; and country living revolves around the rayburn-aga in the open plan kitchen/lounge area.Large mature gardens, surrounded by fields, and hills.
Parts of the house are ship-like, from the sloping shelter the upstairs ceilings and velux views of the sky down the landing. The wooden tongue and groove ceiling in the main room downstairs and its fishermens' lanterns glow before the open fire. Big picture windows offer the best sunsets across the western hills, stone walls and fields. The garden has vegetables, fruit and flowers and lots of room for football.
