About John Reardon

I grew up in Northampton Massachusetts, a town with countless beautiful old homes and lots of woods. I spent countless days in my youth building tree forts never knowing that those 2 dynamics would intersect at this point. Upon arriving in San Diego with an interest in building and purchasing real estate, I became immediately interested in the largely neglected Victorian buildings in this area of town. This property became a labor of love for me many years ago and I hope that legacy will be carried forward by my 3 sons. My wife if Japanese, so our family often divides our time between 2 very different worlds, both with much to offer.

John Reardon purchased this apartment in 1991

Why John Reardon chose San Diego

SD Visit

  • 5 of 5

Great location to Seaport Village, Midway, Balboa Park, Sea World. Small but very manageable since gone most of day but did have options for privacy. No issues with finding parking, at most maybe a block away. Appreciated John's information prior to arrival & he also made contact during visit. Unit was stocked with everything we needed. Loft was great for 12 & 14 yr olds.

Excellent Location

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful, well cared for property that fit our family of 4 perfectly. Easy access to freeway, Coronado, Balboa Park, and downtown. Everything in the unit was clean, beds were comfortable, and our kids LOVED going up and down the spiral staircase to the loft. Only small downside was the noise level since is on a busy street. Our family is used to a louder neighborhood so did not bother us but if you like quiet then you will notice the traffic sounds. Highly recommend this property but there are a number of units some of which are in the back of the house off the street a bit more so check them out too.

Perfect for people who like to walk

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I don't mind a moderate walk and this location is almost exactly a mile from downtown San Diego. Our first full day we made the two mile trip through downtown to the USS Midway Museum, (an excellent museum I might add). Another evening we walked the mile to the Ghiradelli Ice Cream and Candy shop. There are a lot of other downtown sites (including a boatload of quirky little restaurants), but we chose other attractions for the rest of the trip.

The apartment was very comfortable. Both beds were good and even the sofa sleeper was above par for that type of bed. We had two maintenance issues during our stay (which I seriously doubt is typical). Regardless, owner John Reardon responded to both of my voice mails within a few minutes and made every reasonable effort to correct or mediate the situation.

The kitchen is small and moderately equipped. It was fine for preparing small things, but not sufficient for any serious meal preparation. If you plan to really cook anything bring along condiments and spices.

My only complaint was the noise. I'm a suburbanite, so I am accustomed to relatively quiet surroundings. This apartment is on a fairly heavily traveled four lane street and has old loose single pane windows. It is across the street from a metro bus stop and the buses have a very loud beeping alarm that sounds when they open their doors. In addition the house next door has a rolling metal gate across the driveway that screeches hideously when used. The apartment is not air conditioned, so during the day it is rather noisy. At night it cooled down so that we were able to close the windows for sleeping.

Very pleased!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolute wonderful time during our 5-night stay! Great location from the Convention Center, the Zoo, Sea World, and Coronado! We were able to meet with and talk to the owner, Jon, as he was doing work on the property - just a great guy! He was so accommodating before we arrived and while we were there - even asked if we were warm enough at night! This is a great rental! We would definitely stay here again!

Great proximity to downtown/ attractions.

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with our 2 night stay. There were 6 of us & this unit was perfect for our weekend away. It is in a great location. Just a short cab ride to gaslamp and major attractions. I would definitely recommend it in the future. The owner, John, provided great customer service prior to our check-in & throughout the weekend. A great rental!

Graduation/birthday trip

  • 5 of 5

Great property, centrally located for the activities we planned, comfortable and homey. Nice attention to details in the finishes. The condo had everything we needed to feel at home. John and his staff are very accommodating, even made suggestions for things to do and see. John definitely goes above and beyond to make sure his guests feel welcome. There are items for a beach outing and those items included one boogie board... we traveled with two kids. A quick question to John and he came and checked his storage... and hand delivered another to us the next morning before we headed to the beach. Above and beyond and very appreciated! It's a wonderful turn of the century house up on a hill so it may not be possible, but one thing that I would suggest (there's always some little thing :-) ) is to increase the water pressure to the shower. My daughter and I have pretty thick hair and it was a bit of a pain to rinse :-( I would definitely recommend staying in one of John's properties and would stay there again on any subsequent visits if we were to vacation in San Diego again!
