Whale House has a huge wraparound lanai providing stunning ocean views. This 1400 square foot house includes a full size kitchen with a dishwasher, two identical master suites, free kayaks, golf clubs, bicycles, large BBQ, hammock, and patio dining to enjoy whale watching. Kaloli Point has the best weather on the East side... some say better than Kona.
We are full-time Big Island residents. We live one block from the Whale House, so we are available to assist you at a moments notice.
Jim Brawner purchased this house in 2013
Once we stood on the lanai, felt the ocean spray, and saw whales breach in the orange sunset, we knew this house was a magical place.
Kayaks, bicycles, golf clubs, snorkels, coolers, and fruit trees. Whale House is the only rental where free kayaks are provided with instructions to the waterfalls. Kaloli Point is the very best area for bicycles both on a off trails. We also have fruiting coconut palms, papayas, bananas and pineapples on the lush half acre property. Oh, and great weather too!
Wow! What and incredible journey we had in Hilo. We cannot thank you enough for the forethought extended to us during our stay. Your "whale binder" was the Holy Grail of Hilo for us. It provided us some extremely memorable destinations. We were so fortunate with the weather everywhere we went. It seemed we got sun when we wanted it and it became overcast when we didn't care. We learned a mind set that we have never really had before, and I have to say, it is one that really reduces anxiety and stress. The lava pool snorkeling was our favorite. The lavender corals were almost glowing and the variety if fish were gorgeous. We swam with a turtle when we were there. He didn't seem to care that we were flanking him as he swam. We saw a few turtles from the shoreline at the Whale House too. The Wednesday night dinner farmer's market at Uncle Roberts was so fun. We talked to some nice people and tried many different things. We did so much. And were so fortunate to relax at night in a wonderful home which provided for all our needs. We are sore, sunburnt, and mentally spent at the moment, but so happy we made this choice. Mahalo for the best vacation ever!
The only thing better than the Whale House itself, was the hospitality! We felt like we had the inside scoop on all of the local things to do that most tourists would NEVER know about thanks to the Whale House Staff. The Whale House has everything to make visiting Hilo perfect, a full kitchen, comfortable beds, beautiful views, snorkel gear, kayaks, and that wonderful binder that lists all that Hilo has to offer. What a bargain! All you need to bring is the sunscreen. The Whale House is the only place I want to stay when visiting Hilo.
The Whale House is the best Vacation Home we have ever stayed in. Not only did Jim (the owner) provide an excellent home to stay in, he goes above and beyond this by providing a list of local activities that bring you into the "real local culture" as well as information for the best attractions and excellent directions to get their. We will return to the Whale House for future stays. Mahalo. Brad and Laurie from Nevada.
Our visit to the Whale House was incredible. The house is meticulously appointed and well maintained. No detail has been overlooked. From the well appointed kitchen to the bikes, boogie boards and kayaks, we had everything we needed at our fingertips. They even provided a detailed notebook with insider information on how to experience all the natural beauty and sights on the island.
The beds were extremely comfortable (a must as we are very particular). The ocean views from the house are amazing. You can hear the ocean while relaxing on the wrap around lanai... or walk on a very short path to the experience the beautiful coastline. We explored the trails and also used the kayaks to visit the waterfalls.
Overall, the property was everything stated on the website and MORE! Don't hesitate to visit... you won't be disappointed.
The guy who said "you'll be disappointed" must be crazy or blind. The ocean is so close and the views are amazing. There is not a house in front. If anything, the photos on the website don't do the Whale House justice. Also, there are great trails to hike starting right from the front door. We saw turtles, dolphins and nene geese. We enjoyed having free bicycles allowing us to explore this wonderful area. The house itself is very spacious and comfortable with every amenity. And that hammock out back got a lot of use. Jim and Becky have put together a Whale Binder with detailed directions to everything from the house. We used it each day for stress-free driving. All their suggestions were just perfect from the rope swing over the waterfall to the dinner farmer's market. We have such fond memories of the Whale House. We really couldn't have asked for anything more.
Beautiful place, meticulously maintained, bicycles, snorkelling equipment, kayaks, cooler... We selected the place from pictures and reviews and couldn't have been happier with it. The book Jim compiled of things to do and directions were very helpful. Be sure to explore the trails that start very close to the house.
You will be disappointed with the view, and the HUGE cockroaches. The house is actually a block away on the far side of the street not 50 feet. Another house sits between you and the ocean. White water view is rare. 2nd master has NO view. Photos are EXTREMELY misleading. (power lines are photo shopped out of pic's. you can't see the house in front. Special angles that are hard to duplicate) Owner is somewhat controlling. (You can only go Kayaking with his blessing etc.) Note that there is NO air conditioner. HOWEVER, I will say the price is reasonable.
Whale House is located on the most beautiful street on the East side of Hawaii surrounded by million dollar homes. Enjoy stunning ocean views from every room. Feel the ocean spray while whale watching from the huge wraparound lanai. The Whale House is on famous Kaloli Point which boasts the best weather on this side of the island... some say it's better than Kona. This 1400 sq ft house comes with free kayaks, golf clubs, bicycles, Wi-Fi, satellite TV, snorkels, boogie boards, lots of parking, washer, dryer, gas BBQ, dishwasher, and a full sized kitchen with everything needed to prepare a gourmet dinner for six. Plenty of outdoor patio dining.
