Originally built to showcase redwood craftsmanship for a local steam mill, this house has open beam straight grain virgin redwood ceilings with old growth redwood paneling in a sunny area of three private acres. Quarter sawn white oak wide plank flooring beautifully compliments the redwood interior. Skylights provide a bright and inviting interior with beautiful forest and meadow views from every window. The modern kitchen has a Sub Zero built in fridge, Wolf range and oven, dishwasher and microwave all integrated with custom alder cabinets, granite counter tops, and a copper sink. The lighting is accomplished with lutron controls that create many beautiful lighting scenes at the touch of a button. The main bathroom has a big claw foot bath tub, marble floors with in floor heating, and gorgeous views from every window. The master bath has a shower with beautiful forest views and a door that leads onto the deck with a two person hot tub. The living room has a beautiful wood stove, flat screen tv, leather seating, and a wireless stereo system. The wrap around deck has beautiful views in every direction, a barbeque, hot tub and some outdoor seating. The property is in a sunny clearing surrounded by forest with a year round creek, redwood grove, and large oak trees.

8/25/14: The Napa earthquake had no effect on the house. We didn't even have a cup fall over. West Sonoma county was largely unaffected.
My wife and I grew up in West Sonoma County.
This is a unique house with a unique history going back to the origins of the Redwood Empire
I wanted to take this time to thank you and your family in sharing the Redwood home with us. We had a comfortable and very enjoyable stay there. The home is beautiful and we felt all the love, blood, sweat and tears that went into preserving and updating the home. I was sad to leave the area.
We went back to the Redwood House in Sebastopol for 6 nights. We loved the place, as we did before. Lovely setting, beautifully finished and furnished. It's a couple place, but great for that. There's some distant road noise, but only noticeable at traffic hours. at least ATT cell phones don't work; that may be a good thing; there's Internet access, but streaming is strongly discouraged. There's a nice TV, but bring DVDs, rather than streaming. Overall, it's a great place and we will return again!
My boyfriend and I rented this home for the weekend and really enjoyed it. I'd highly recommend doing the Sonoma Canopy zip-line tour which was only about 10-15 minutes from the house. The house was very clean, modern, and tech - savvy, but still had a very cozy cabin vibe. I absolutely loved it and would definitely consider coming back or recommending this home!
On a business trip in the area and decided to rent a house instead of a boring hotel room; and were we ever glad! My husband elected to join me and this was the perfect mini-holiday. This turned out to be a wonderful home with a great historical angle. We enjoyed to hot tube, no light pollution to obscure the beautiful starry sky. We truly enjoyed ourselves and will be looking for any excuse to rent this lovely home again!
We rented this house for a couple of nights for a visiting client, who greatly enjoyed her stay there. She benefitted from walking the grounds around the house as she worked to integrate the time she spent working with us. The owner relied promptly to my questions and concerns, and when I asked if he could reduce the noise from the basement fan so she could have more quiet he was happy to oblige. Beautiful house, well appointed, and very comfortable. Thank you for an easy experience!
Joel is a wonderful host and his place is definitely the best rental spot I've ever stayed in. The house is situated on a beautiful, private lot and the redwood-filled interior features lots of modern amenities. The kitchen is recently renovated and has everything you could want as a cook with top notch Wolf appliances. Living room and bedroom were super comfortable and the hot tub on the back deck was a very welcome addition. I can't recommend this place enough and hope to visit again in the future.
By far the most amazing vacation rental I've ever stayed at. The house is beautiful and has anything you could want--indoor 2 person clawfoot tub (with heated floors!), huge bed, nice sized television, chef's kitchen, wood stove. The hot tub was well situated and it was great to relax in it at night and stare at the stars. The property is very pretty and despite there being 2 other houses on it, we couldn't see them and it felt like we had the whole woods to ourselves. We didn't want to leave. Few notes for renters: no cell service, but internet/wifi was fine. No streaming of videos allowed on the wifi, but the tv/dvd combo was good enough to keep us entertained when we weren't enjoying all the other amenities. No restaurants/grocery stores are walkable, but Sebastopol and Occidental are both very short drives and offer plenty of options.
The house is in the green valley appellation minutes from several wineries. Minutes from occidental, sebastopol, graton and freestone. Twenty minutes from the russian river at Monte Rio. Many restaurants within minutes. Excellent biking and hiking trails close by.
