This elegant, modern and sun-infused home draws its charm from the rich history that precedes it. Built in 1929 of the coral rock typical of early Florida structures, it was the original caretaker's home for the vast mango plantations that are now South Miami and Pinecrest. Its generous great room with wood burning fireplace, its coral rock dining room surrounded by floor-to-ceiling windows (formerly the caretaker’s front porch), and its huge eat-in kitchen comprise the original home – and all preserve the Florida pine and mosaic tile floors that graced it in 1929. A 1995 addition seamlessly expanded the living space to 2400 square feet, incorporating only the finest quality elements: mahogany kitchen cabinets topped with honed black granite countertops, high end stainless steel appliances, volume ceilings and crown molding, Florida pine hardwood floors, travertine marble baths, intelligent and creative interior lighting, and high impact windows and doors that bathe the interior in light and showcase the lavish gardens – which of course include mango trees. Set well back on a huge gated and fenced lot, Villa on Sunset is a quiet haven from the mayhem of the workaday world. In addition to the expansive great room, dining room, and kitchen, this home features 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a restful study, a music room, a brick-paved patio for outdoor entertaining, and a child’s outdoor playground. Eight guests sleep very comfortably and peacefully here, secure within a state-of-the-art security system. And when you wake up, all of Miami’s many wonderful attractions await you – just minutes away. Owners speak English, French and Spanish.
We are diplomats with the U.S. Department of State and have lived all over the world, always looking for the perfect home to buy. It took us many years, but we finally found it in South Miami.
Ann Barrow purchased this house in 2013
Villa on Sunset blends architectural and historical charm with the comfort, design and convenience of a newly-built luxury home. This house has a unique place in South Florida's history, but it is also reminiscent of the original settlers' homes we always admired when working many years in Kenya.
Villa on Sunset is a haven for rest and relaxation and at the same time a great location for enjoying all the fun, exciting and memorable elements that are Miami. Brilliant restaurants, the best shopping, nightlife, golf, tennis, watersports, top universities and hospitals, Miami Int'l Airport -- just everything is very nearby -- often within walking distance.
We just stayed here over the week while attending a wedding in Miami and everything about our stay here was perfect! My wife spoke to ann (the owner) and said that she was very nice and very accomodating. At one point, my wife even made a comment that ann was so nice that it almost seemed to good to be true, so we were very pleased when we arrived at the home and found it to be even better than we had hoped! The home has everything you will possibly need and the grounds are simply gorgeous. The entire property is surrounded by lush tropical plants and the front of the property is secured with gate access. We felt completely safe to let our kids run around the property and they loved the playground in the back. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were soft and clean. The entire house was spotless and all the amenities/appliances were brand new and beautiful. The home itself is a beatifully restored, mediteranean style that eminates Miami lifestyle. Since we were down for a wedding and had all of our days planned out, we didn't get to see much of the surrounding area, but while driving home, there seemed to be a pretty active night life that we intend to come back again to enjoy. Can't wait to stay here again!...I also want to add that on the last day, we met the house cleaner and grounds keeper and they were also very nice.
