STARFISH SUITE SETS ON HALF AN ACRE ALONG 210 FEET OF WATERFRONT WITH A NEW 67' DECK FOR OCEAN-FRONT VIEWING AND ENTERTAINING.
The charming and quaint seaport town of Friday Harbor, its streets lined with leafy trees, wood-framed buildings, art galleries, coffee shops and restaurants, is a pleasant stroll from the Starfish Suite. Walk into town for your morning latte (l mile!) or take an evening stroll to our exciting harbor, where action is never wanting.
Nestled on the edge of North Bay with the Salish Sea as a backdrop and Dinner Island directly in front of us, we are home to a myriad of birds, seals, sea lions, and river otters. Rising up from the horizon are the Olympic Mountains with their snow~capped peaks. Our incredible location allows you to escape into a world filled with the wonders of nature, to breathe in the saltwater air, to feel renewed, refreshed and rejuvenated. Whether visiting in the summer or winter, the San Juan islands are always spectacular.
All living areas face the sparkling sea in our 1,500 sq. ft. two bedroom, two bath oceanfront apartment. Perfect for one guest or four guests. Not too big and not too small. Cozy yet well appointed, the sunken living room has picture windows that embrace the views of Dinner Island and Griffin Bay. Snuggle up on the twin love seats and watch TV on a Samsung 46 inch Smart TV with Dish, internet-configured for streaming Netflix, Amazon and other media, and high-speed WiFi. The little french wood~stove is always set for a warm fire. There is a bookshelf filled with best sellers, books on the history of San Juan Island, games and puzzles.
The dining and kitchen areas and the master suite all open up to a sunny ocean~front deck. You can barbecue dinners caught from the sea, dine overlooking North Bay, kayak or paddle board in front of our home, chill out in a double hammock or just relax with a good book, mesmerized by the continual motion of the sea that surrounds you.
The romantic Master Suite has a private entry and opens onto the waterfront deck. The en~suite bathroom adjoins a dressing area and small ballet barre. The guest bedroom is light and airy with a large picture window facing Dinner Island, the Olympic Mountains and Old Argyle Town.
You will often see eagles and great blue herons dipping into the ocean, seeking tasty morsels. Walk down to the rocks where marine life abounds with purple starfish, small fish, seals cavorting, goslings exploring their world with their parents and an occasional river otter.
Organic gardens, a meditation garden and our circular blue-stone Outdoor Kitchen with granite counter-tops, a sink, refrigerator and a Fire Magic commercial barbecue are all available for your enjoyment. Many a great meal has been enjoyed here!
Building our family home on the point of North Bay 27 years ago has been one of our most rewarding and exciting life adventures. We love living on the island, raising our family, and enjoying the quiet beauty that surrounds us. We have been active in community services and volunteer work. David is a retired naval officer, engineer, and real-estate broker and I am a retired United Airlines International flight attendant and educator. We are originally from Lake Oswego, Oregon. This spring, we decided to live 6 months in the desert and 6 months at home. We do encourage long-term renters in the off-season months of October through March. Call or e-mail us for additional information on off~season rates.
MARY ANN ANDERSON purchased this apartment in 1988
The Starfish Suite is perfectly located for walks into town and Jackson's Beach. There is always something to do in town, whether your pleasure is fine dining, boutique shopping, visiting our new Art Institute, going to the Farmer's Market on Saturday mornings, cruising on the Victorian Clipper to Canada, attending our very popular
San Juan Community Theatre, taking a whale~watching cruise, or just mingling with the 'locals'. Our Private Road is in a quiet neighborhood that overlooks North Bay, Griffin Bay and the snow-capped Olympic Mountains. One incredible joy living so close to the sea is the intimate views of the bird and sea-life that surround us. North Bay is home to a myriad of wildlife and sea life. One is always reminded of the special beauty where we live, whether it is paddle boarding across the bay to Dinner Island, bicycling into town, listening to birdsong, or watching a mother deer carefully guiding her twin fawns away from harm's way.
We truly live in a magical paradise.
Jackson's Beach is one mile from our home. Beach activities include swimming, picnicking, sailing, crabbing, kayaking, wind-surfing and paddle-boarding or just walking the shoreline, looking for sea glass. We do have private parking for your car with space for a 20 foot boat, which can be launched from nearby Jackson's Beach.
Thank You Mary Ann! We had a wonderful time. Your place was a perfect fit for our visit.
With so many choices of places to stay in Friday Harbor, we were delighted to have chosen The Starfish Suite. We were in awe of the panoramic views of Griffin Bay and the Olympic Mountains from the deck. Really awesome! The interior was spacious, well-appointed with ocean decor throughout, and the Master Suite has the most comfortable bed we have ever slept in. The owners are very accomodating, helping us with the ferry schedule, sending us info on events when we were coming, and stocking the pantry with teas, local coffee and sparkling water. They even have fine guest soaps, shampoos and conditioners in each bathroom. Their Outdoor Kitchen is fabulous! We highly recommend staying at the Starfish Suite. Too Much Fun!
This is such a magical place. I was completely mesmerized by the waters, sunsets, sunrises, wildlife, and serene beauty of this lovely home, and all of its surroundings. What a gift! Great place to sleep, and the beds are so comfortable. Close to town, walking distance to beaches, and the Farmers Market. We loved it here. We would stay again, and again.
Friday Harbour is a magical place, and this accommodation is like a bit of fairy dust. It's so well located (single digit minutes to town), yet seemingly miles away on Argyle Bay. The accommodation is perfect, with anything you could possibly want being provided - including a deck with expansive views of the water beyond and a Weber grill (which we used daily!) Awake to geese honking their way past the deck, otters frolicking, bald eagles hunting - And, while we were there - a wonderful display of vintage planes, in for a fly over event at the local airport. How fun and unexpected was that? We couldn't have conjured a better San Juan Island get-away, had we tried. A week was too short. So, just go. We will, again!
Starfish is a perfect place to stay. Ideal for one or two couples traveling together. The view from every room is beautiful. It's open, comfortable, quiet and relaxing. Convenient to all island activities. Starfish is beautifully decorated, clean, inviting and cozy -- you can tell the owners took special care in making Starfish a wonderful place to stay. The kitchen is stocked if you want to stay in and cook or you can go out to many of the delicious restaurants the island has to offer (an easy walk to Friday Harbor). We will definitely come back and stay at Starfish and recommend to our friends traveling to the NW!
Visiting from out-of-state, my husband & I have always heard amazing things about what the San Juans has to offer & our stay at Starfish suites was no exception. Beautifully located over Griffen Bay & close to town but you feel like you are really experiencing what the islands are all about. Easy access to Jacksons beach, but you'll never want to leave your deck or your bed because it's all Sooo amazingly appointed and comfy. A relaxing stay for sure.
Breathtaking retreat with sweeping views. Enjoyed coffee on the deck while watching bald eagles fly over the water! Bed was very comfortable and living space was tastefully decorated. Spectacular vacation overall!
