My wife and I own Anytime Fitness in Bennington Vermont. We have 1 wonderful son who is a 3 sport athlete and is smart as a whip. The home you will stay in was mostly constructed by me. I was a builder for 26 yrs. This home was our first home and our son was born while we were living at this house. We are productive members of our community, I am the assistant varsity and Babe Ruth baseball coach. I coach football middle school as well. My wife belongs to Bennington Catamount Rotary.
I was born and raised in Bennington and have many connections with the local businesses and owners.
Jamie Carey purchased this cabin in 1996
This home allows you to have the privacy and comfort of what you would expect from a log cabin in the mountains of Vermont while still being close enough to many exciting attractions and activities.
This home just said 'country living' to me when I first saw it. It is tucked away in a quaint little neighborhood on a private road. The country feel with modern amenities.
Roomy and spacious kitchen and bedrooms. Close to shops . Television was too small and no remote.
Everyone -- and our party included two elderly couples, one middle-aged couple and one 20-something male -- was very happy with the accommodations, which were clean, comfortable, well-designed and well-furnished. Everyone in our party remarked on what a great house this was; I think my son wants to return with some of his friends sometime.
The kitchen is quite large and well-furnished, with lots of counter space. The bedrooms are spacious (esp. the master), and the living area is large and well-designed. There is a screened porch as well as a more open porch. The place was well landscaped. It was just 10-12 minutes away from Williams College, where our daughter was graduating.
Make no mistake: this is no luxury estate. The furnishings were rustic "country" in style. They have seen some wear, but they are mostly in good condition. (There were a couple of items that needed a coat of paint, but that was the exception.) Everything about this cabin was as advertised on HomeAway.
If you're flying in, you will probably want to subscribe to their linen service.
My only complaint about this property is that, when I contacted the owners several weeks before our visit by email -- and then sent yet another email -- they never responded. Eventually, I called their phone and left a message. Many days later, we did get a response. But later, when I used email to ask another quick question, there was no response. So they are a bit hard to get hold of. So if I could, I would probably rate this about 4.5 stars.
But our experience in general was quite positive. Other than the communication, there were no real issues. The owners seem committed to making this work well. It is hard to imagine a better rental experience.
Really nice setting, lots of privacy, very comfortable and well-supplied home. Close to so many activities in Western Massachusetts and Southern Vermont. We were a family of 4 adults and we will certainly return to this venue on our next visit to the area!
This property is 10 minutes from Williamstown, MA home of Williams College, Williams Theater and Clark Art Institute and 12 minutes from Bennington, VT home of Old Castle Theater, Bennington Monument, Bennington College, Southern Vermont College and more.
The airport to fly into would be Albany, NY airport that is about 40 minutes from the log cabin.
The cabin is also close to these ski areas; Jiminy Peak approx. 15 min, Prospect Mountain approx. 20 min, Bromley approx. 35 min, Haystack approx. 40 min., Mount Snow approx. 45 min ... plus, Stratton Mountain and Killington are about an hour and 20 minutes from this location. So there are many ski mountain areas to choose.
There are trails behind the cabin that you can hike on.
We have many ponds, streams and rivers local that offer great fishing, tubing, kayaking options including the Barbers Pond, Lake Paran, Harriman Resevior, Somerset Resevior, Battenkill River...
Golfing areas are also found in Bennington, Williamstown, North Adams and Stamford.
There is much to do, many places to eat, in this beautiful area of Vermont. When you arrive to the cabin, welcome binder will have some highlights for you to review.
