A large and ancient stone and wood built French Gites in the hamlet of Poumeroux. Enough history to feed an enthusiast, recently restored to modern standards yet retaining the warmth and charm of more ancient times. Quiet, idyllic and tranquil setting in the heart of rural France.
My wife and I restore historic buildings for a living. From Victorian stone Vicarages in Wales, flint barns in Sussex, UK, French Gites and many wood and stone dwellings dated from the 1800's in Charleston SC, USA. La Cerisier is our family retreat in France and part of our restored portfolio.
Denise Holtz purchased this cottage in 2006
A truly ancient home bought from the family that had owned it forever (or at least they knew of no other owners). My family (cousins) live permanently in the hamlet and we wanted our own retreat nearby. The ruins spoke softly to us, this would be a happy place. One that we have loved visiting and, for a time at least, living in through the summer and autumn months.
If you want peace and the perfect excuse to forget a hectic life, then this is the ideal place for you. The locals are very friendly and appreciate even basic attempts at French. The food is simple and from the farmers markets. The internet has not yet reached these parts and smartphones are useless. The perfect excuse!
This is rural France at its most beautiful. Just north of the more densely populated Dordogne you can enjoy peace and tranquility yet be near to modern conveniences. Enjoy the local wildlife, exercise that rusty french or just sit and slowly drink the local wine watching the world go by. In summer there are plenty of activities/services from fetes, rural retreats, many Chateaux, restaurants and cosmopolitan shopping all within an hours drive. Summers are long and warm, winters cold and sharp. Beware, that Blackberry probably won't ring in or out; this IS rural France!
