Overview

Asheville House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms, 1.5 Baths, Sleeps 6

NEWLY RENOVATED, September 2014!

With a fresh coat of paint on the main floor, new furnishings and new decor, this unit is much improved after a steady stream of visitors over the past year. Improvements will continue throughout the fall months, and we want it to look brand new by Thanksgiving!

This side-by-side Asheville duplex has long been a favorite of mine. Before I bought it, I used to drive by and just look at it. I was attracted by its location, its sturdy, green-built construction, its spacious and sunny layout and its roomy, clean design. It is a fairly new building, and we converted it to a vacation rental in the summer of 2013.

The location is surprisingly quiet, and looking at a map you might expect a lot of highway noise. But a high embankment muffles the sound, so the area is very peaceful. It is a little enclave with no direct connection to other neighborhoods, and there is very little traffic. It is an easy walk to the Visitor's Center and downtown, but the scenery along the service road is not especially appealing. So most guests make the 30 second drive to the Visitor's Center, and walk or ride from there. To get downtown plan on a two to five minute drive.

The building is a side-by-side duplex. Both sides have an identical three-level floor plan, but they are different because on side A, the caretaker, Claire, lives on the lower level. On side B, a huge tiled bedroom, a full bath, and laundry facilities are available to you. On both sides the upper level features two carpeted bedrooms with a bathroom in between. The beds are brand new and are some of the most comfortable you will ever experience. Our guests LOVE them and we have put the same brand in most of our other rentals.

The main level is where you enter. Here you will find the living room, the kitchen, a half bath, a dining nook and a back deck. Floors are hardwood and tile. There is a flat screen TV mounted on the living room wall between the bookshelves. On side A you will find a sleeper sofa that opens up to a full size bed. The open floor plan allows you to enjoy your family and friends while you cook. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans and utensils.

Our caretaker, Claire, is there to help you with any questions or concerns. She lives downstairs in side A and is happy to help if you need anything.

If you have a large group you can rent both sides. You can sleep up to 12 if two people use the sleeper sofa on side A.

Parking in the front is a little tight but two cars can fit if you park at an angle. The parking area can get muddy but we plan to expand it a bit and lay some stone. If you're staying on side B you can drive around to the back but we recommend you don't take a vehicle with low clearance back there because the gravel road has some uneven spots.

Please be aware that the neighborhood has residents of various income levels and is close to downtown. Occasionally a guest has mentioned this so please take it into consideration. The area is quite safe and we have always gotten along with the neighbors. We want our guests to have a good experience and to be happy, so please feel free to call or email us if you have any questions!

We specialize in property management services for short term rentals. We can also help you get started in vacation rentals so please feel free to contact us. Visit our web site at PeteKey dot com for more information.

If you are looking to make Asheville your home, this is a perfect home base for house hunting. We are a good resource if that's your plan, as we know the area and the market. So please let us know and we will help you any way we can.

Thanks and enjoy your stay in Asheville!

Girls Weekend

  • 4 of 5

This was a girl's weekend trip to see The Biltmore Estate and spend time together. There was 5 of us. We had a blast. We liked the house very much. Dusty in a few places but overall we were very pleased. Bathrooms clean, beds were comfortable, clean floors, large bedrooms. Quiet neighborhood and very close to downtown. We enjoyed having everyone under one roof and our own kitchen. We sat out on the deck. We are planning to stay in this house again!

Reviewer Comments:

This was a decent rental for our 2 day stay. The location was fine although a little too close to the interstate for my taste's as I am live in Maine where there is a lot less traffic. But, great to be near to downtown Asheville. Really enjoyed being able to walk downtown and loved the shops, art galleries and restaurants. The house had 2 bedroons upstairs and a bath too. Downstairs was a half bath. My biggest complaint was that my youner son slept on a pull out couch. 2 THINGS HAPPENED- the property managers had not provided us with sheets and blankets for the couch. We had to call the next morning to ask them to bring those things to the house. Also, the mattress was not comfortable at all so my younger son did not get great sleep. I realize we didn't get there till Christmas Eve but I think the bedding should have been there. There also were no dish towels in the kitchen. There was a dishwasher but we had cooking dishes that needed to be washed by hand and I think dish towels should be a basic item in a rental property. No bar soap either and the property manager said that they were not a hotel. I still think a bar or two of soap for the shower is not a strange request. But- I will say the overall condition of the house was good for the value. My older son took us to Curate for dinner. It was excellent. Also recommnend Green Sage for coffee, breakfast or lunch and the F.W Woolworth(Woolworth Walk) It is a Woolworth old-style lunch counter with items to buy from local artists. From artwork, to jewlery and bookmarks, reasonably priced. And make sure you visit the Mast General Store. This is a great store in downtown with hundreds of great items, clothing, candy and gifts. Really great items that are also affordable. Overall a good stay with reasonable rates. Nice, quaint downtown area.

Owner's Response: This guest called us at midnight on Christmas Eve to complain that there was no bedding. I told her where it was, and she said she had already looked there. When we sent the housekeeper to follow up the next day, she found the bedding right where it should be. There is not a pull out couch in the world that is as comfortable as a bed, as anyone knows. It seems bad form to choose economy and then bemoan the lack of luxury. Bar soap is such a personal item, and we have never stocked it in any of our rentals. In five years, this is the first complaint we've had about this. This is a great unit and you can book it with confidence.

We loved our cottage stay. It was close to major highways, near the visitor center and grocery stores. We only booked it for three of our five night stays in Asheville. Would book our entire stay there next time. I loved the tasteful and eclective furniture and furnishings. Someone had fun decorating. The beds were wonderful, towels thick and large. The kitchen was well stocked,( I contributed a wine opener). The unit was clean and quiet. Our only complaint was the sleeper sofa that was low and uncomfortable to sit on. Hopefully once the school behind the unit is finished and landscaped the view will improve, but it did not affect the quality of our stay.

The house was clean, comfortable, and convieniently located. We were able to walk downtown, but also took a cab a couple times (which only cost around $5-6!) We were all very pleased with the place and would definitely love to stay again!

Reviewer Comments:

Great location with a 5 minute drive from town, 20 minute walk if you're feeling up to it. My biggest concern was the construction happening near by, and I definitely heard it in the mornings around 8am from the back room. I also had the window open since I refuse to sleep in a still room. So if you keep the window shut, or sleep in the front room, or wake up by 8am, or are a deep sleeper, you'll be fine. Beyond that, everything was great, plenty of towels, blankets, pillows, appliances, working TV, etc.<br/>Would definitely stay again.
