About Austin and Liz Pettit

We met several years ago, and instantly found that we were perfectly matched in our spirit of adventure, thus we were soon married. Eager to share the many wonders that Montana has to offer, we explored the state. Of course, Big Sky was high on the priority list. We skied, snowshoed, and ice skated in the winter. Since we couldn't get enough of Big Sky, we came back that very summer to mountain bike, hike, explore the ropes course, and fish the Gallatin River. After experiencing Big Sky in all seasons, we truly felt that we had found our home.

Austin and Liz Pettit purchased this condo in 2012

Why Austin and Liz Pettit chose Big Sky

After our epic vacations in Big Sky, we decided to buy this condo as a weekend retreat since we were spending so many weekends there anyway. We loved the location as it is not far from the mountain in the winter for skiing, and is not far from the river in the summer. We also appreciated its close proximity to the town center, numerous hiking trails, some of which can be enjoyed year-round, and a massive network of cross-country ski trails. We ended up enjoying our 'weekend home' SO much, that we decided to move to another home in Big Sky full-time, and open up our condo to share our wonderful experiences to vacationers.

What makes this condo unique

Since we remodeled this condo to suit our personal expectations, it is truly a home away from home. Every detail was designed to make our stays as hassle-free and comfortable as possible. When decorating and furnishing the unit, we took great care to choose elements that made it feel like an extension of our home, as opposed to many of the out-dated lodging accommodations that we had become accustomed to around the area.

Another feature we have thoroughly enjoyed has been the logical layout of the condo. Each bedroom is on opposite sides of the living space, creating privacy, which has been nice when couples have come to stay with us. Additionally, the bathrooms are well laid out with the sink areas separate from the toilet and showers, so more than one person can use the bathroom at one time. Guests staying for any extended period of time are going to appreciate the massive walk-in closet of the master suite. It is conveniently located on the first floor next to the parking lot, making unloading your gear a breeze. We have absolutely appreciated that after a long day in the car or a day on the slopes.

We hope you love staying here as much as we have!

Great first VRBO experience!

  • 5 of 5

Travel: My husband and I flew into Salt Lake City and rented a car. We spent a couple of days in SLC before driving to Big Sky. We stopped in Idaho to grocery shop. We did shop for meat/fish in Big Sky. The cheapest option in Big Sky is The Country Market. Roxy's has fresh meat and fish. I highly recommend trying Bison meat. The meat is so good I have found were I can buy in North Carolina.

Condo: The condo looked EXACTLY like the photos! The kitchen was stocked with all everything you need to make a nice meal. The coffee and spices were very handy! The grill was a selling point for us and we grilled out every night! Even in the snow! The hot tub was another selling point. It was a perfect way to relax after an active day. We have been to other places that advertised a hot tub and it didn’t work. I appreciate the measures the owners take to keep the hot tub clean and running. The internet and gas logs weren’t working when we arrived. Austin answered his phone, on Easter Sunday, to assist in solving the problems. Both were an easy fix!

Location: The location was perfect! The bus stop, which will take you anywhere you want to go, is right out your door. The condo is less than a mile from Town Center.

Activities: Day 1: Snowshoed. Highly recommend! Day 2: Skied. My husband has only skied on the east coast, which is very different. He enjoyed the challenging runs. I took lessons and my instructor, Dick Fast, was AMAZING. Day 3: Hiked and shopped. We hiked Reflector Trail and Ousel Falls. Both are within a mile or two from the condo. The shops in Town Center and Meadow Village are worth a visit. Day 4: Biked in Yellowstone. Yellowstone is closed to motor vehicles at this time, so we rented bikes (Free Heel and Wheel). I am so glad my ski instructor told me about this option. What a great experience. We saw tons of Bison! Day 5: Zip Lined and hit the brewery. To me zip lining wasn’t worth the money. However, the Lone Peak Brewery is not to be missed: great beer, bar food, and games. I LOVE shuffle board and they have an awesome table. My husband simulation golf for 3 hours. Just FYI, they take tee times for the golf and have right handed clubs on hand. Day 6: Drove to Bozeman. We want to fly into Bozeman next time and spend a night or two there.

There will definitely be a next time. We love the Big Sky area and the Pettit’s condo.

Thank you for an amazing vacation!

Wonderful rental

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed staying at this condo. This is the second year that we've stayed and hope to make it an annual trip if the snow at Big Sky cooperates. The condo is conveniently located in the meadow village, has a dedicated parking spot just out the front door. It is well decorated and cared for. There are two bedrooms each with it's own bathroom located on opposite sides of the condo for a little more privacy. There is a full kitchen so you can prepare meals on site, along with a wide array of pots, pans, utensils, and place settings. There is a private 4 person hot tub just out the patio door, washer/dryer in the condo as well. There are also TVs, blue-ray players and individual satellite tuners in both bedrooms as well as the living room. The beds were soft, the shower was awesome. We can't say enough good things about this place. Completely trouble-free reservation and deposit return. The condo is also located very near the shuttle stop that will take you to the mountain village for skiing or around the Big Sky area.

Couldn't ask for anything more

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect in every way. All of the added touches - from the games and movies to the binder filled with recommendations - really meant a lot to us. Having access to a hot tub was awesome as well (we even saw some deer passing through while we were relaxing!). Austin and Liz have obviously put a lot of thought into their rental and have made sure you have everything you need (and then some) available.

If you're staying here and planning on visiting Yellowstone, keep in mind it is a drive. We are not early risers so by the time we got going and into the park it would be almost lunchtime. We tried to maximize the daylight while at the park so often we got back to the unit very late. Most of the places to eat in Big Sky close early (or at least earlier than you can get back) so be sure to grab a bite in W. Yellowstone before you make the trek back if you are like us.

Overall - zero complains. I would HIGHLY recommend this place and I would DEFINITELY stay here again if I was planning a trip to the area. Thank you Austin and Liz for TRULY making this a home away from home!

Great value and location!

  • 5 of 5

We used this property as our lodging during our Yellowstone visit. It had everything we could ask for - a separate bedroom and bathroom for the kids, full kitchen, and very quiet. There is a market and liquor store nearby, so any food/drink supplies needed were just a couple minutes away. Wonderful property and we would definitely stay here again!

If you're coming to Big Sky, you must be aware that it is home to the 'Biggest Skiing in America;' however, there are MANY more activities that will not only keep you busy year-round but for a lifetime!

One example of a local treat is the Ousel Falls trail, which is a relatively short but scenic hike (1.5 miles round trip) , and is right down the road from the condo (about a mile). See it roaring in the summer or frozen in time in the winter!

If you would like to know more about some of the specific activities in the area, please visit the Big Sky Resort website, as well as the Chamber of Commerce website. Please feel free to contact us personally with any additional questions you may have. We'd love to utilize our knowledge of the local area to ensure that you have an unforgettable vacation!
