Casita Colibri is a completely self-contained and private cottage (approximately 450 sq. ft.) that accommodates two very comfortably. Recently built, it has its own private entrance, a deck overlooking the garden and a short path leading to the secluded, solar-heated pool.
The living room and bedroom have their own remote-controlled, quiet, mini-split air conditioning/heating/fan units which allow perfect and quick temperature control.
The serene bedroom has a super comfortable, king-sized bed, flat screen TV and sliding doors onto the private deck...a perfect place for that first cup of coffee in the morning.
The living room/dining/kitchenette area is comfortably furnished and equipped with everything needed to create a simple meal. Spices, condiments, coffee, tea, sugar and milk are provided as well as a fresh fruit basket upon arrival.
England, the East Coast and the Mid-West have all been home to Roger and Linda but we fell in love with Topanga when Roger was doing a lot of consulting work in Los Angeles in the mid-90s. That was when we decided this was where we wanted to live and we finally made it happen in 2002.
Linda Ilsley purchased this cottage in 2002
There is something pretty special about waking up every morning and knowing that you are exactly where you want to be. The dry Canyon smells have become so familiar...rosemary, sage and lavender combining to create the most perfect treat for the senses and feeling so close to nature just makes us happy.
The year-round sunshine, dry warmth and the way the property is just snuggled into the landscape, continues to please me each and every day and I hope it will do the same for you.
Fifteen minutes down the Canyon to the beautiful Pacific Ocean, and another 10 minutes either direction to Malibu or Santa Monica, 30 to 45 minutes to the studios...we love this location.
Topanga is a popular weekend destination for Angelenos who come to enjoy the beautiful scenery, hiking in the State Parks or myriad of other trails, mountain biking (rentals available in the Canyon) and exploring the varied shops shops and galleries. The Will Geer Theatricum Botanicum also entices many to the Canyon to enjoy their terrific productions. A choice of several restaurants, from fine dining to pizza, along with two coffee shops and a good gourmet food shop, give you plenty of choices for dining in or out.
And an easy drive away will give you more shopping choices than you will have time for from high end (Melrose Place, Rodeo Drive and excellent large Valley malls) to the outlet malls.
This is Southern California and you will not be disappointed. There are fantastic beaches all along the Pacific Coast Highway beginning with Topanga Beach, right where Topanga Canyon Boulevard meets the ocean. Turn right and you will be in Malibu in 10 minutes and left will bring you to Santa Monica in 10 minutes.
Restaurants, cliff trails for hiking, beaches, whale watching, surfing and celebrity spotting...all in the same day! Santa Monica Pier and Amusement Park, Malibu Vineyards, Universal Studios, Los Angeles Zoo and Observatory in Griffith Park...all of these destinations are from 20 minutes to an hour away. Santa Barbara is a little over an hours drive and Sea World and Legoland in San Diego are two hours to the South.
The host and hostess of this wonderful retreat in Topanga was fabulous. They couldn't have been more welcoming. The cottage was felt secluded , quiet, and yet easy to get around the area.
Great place, clean, relaxing.
Linda and Roger were very accomodating.
Definitely going to return next year.
Thank you Linda and Roger

If you are lucky enough to rent Casita Colibri you will not be disappointed! The location is perfect. Very quiet and peaceful but also a short drive to lovely beaches and all the hustle and bustle of Santa Monica and Los Angeles. All of the rooms are bright and airy and the bedroom has the most comfortable king bed! Linda thinks of everything...the fridge was full of delicious snacks and the fruit bowl was full. The pool is a few steps from the deck where you can sip your wine or coffee. Lovely hikes nearby and good restaurants in Topanga itself. Last but not least, the hosts are such nice people! We wish we could have stayed longer and will definitely be back. Thank you Linda and Roger you made our holiday very special.
The casita is very well appointed and thoughtfully put together. It was very clean and well maintained. The casita has a beautiful porch and view of the pool.Topanga is a wonderful organic spot. It has terrific hiking and the beach is only 10-15 min away.
The owners have put a generous amount of fresh fruit and basics in the house. We found it had everything we needed to cook while we were there. I even found a tray in the kitchen so we could have breakfast in bed :-)
Linda and Rodger were warm, lovely, helpful and available. They advised us on some wonderful hikes, great restaurants and gave us complete privacy.
great escape from the city.
I highly recommend it!
We stayed at Lynn and Roger’s guest house for five days. We had a wonderful time. They were very considerate, and we felt like the place was really well thought out.
It was comfortable and had a nice sense of style. It was warm when we wanted it to be warm and cool when we wanted it to be cool. The grounds have a pleasant look to them and there was plenty of space to park cars if we wanted it. The guest house is far enough from their house to feel private.
We would love to stay there again when our schedule permits.
What a beautiful property and the perfect location. From the minute you drive thru the gates and down the tree lined drive you know you have arrived at the right place. A garden path leads to the private casita. The casita is so much more than the the photo's show. There are lots of windows and plenty of natural light. The kitchen was functional and efficient. The refrigerator was stocked with local organic fruits/juices, and snacks. The linens in both the bath and bedroom were luxurious. The bathroom spacious and new. The deck has a nice view of the garden and pool. A wonderful spot for to read a book or have a glass of wine and unwind. The owners were warm and welcoming, helpful without hovering. They have an extensive knowledge of the local area and were excellent resources for things to do and good restaurants. I look forward to my next opportunity to stay at this exceptional property. I would highly recommend this property to any family member or friend.
