'Villa Belforte' is a totally restored stunning Tuscan Villa perched on the medieval walls of the picturesque village of Belforte in central Tuscany. This spectacular property has been lovingly restored by its owners, an Italian architect and his Australian wife, and is full of style and charm with excellent quality furnishings and upmarket fittings. No expense has been spared and beamed ceilings, hardwood floors and authentic furniture are found throughout the spacious three storey home. The property rotates around and opens up onto its private panoramic terrace and garden incorporating an original 11th century tower and stunning private heated indoor spa pool and chromotherapy shower. The ground level of the property complete with huge lounge area, open fireplace and gourmet kitchen all flow out onto the garden with five sets of French doors. On the other two levels there are a separate library room, four complete double bedrooms as well as a separate entrance and five bathrooms.
My Italian architect husband and I live in the beautiful city of Siena with our four bilingual children. I left Australia for a passion for all things Italian and after twenty years of living in Tuscany I can say that the passion really has peaked with the enthusiasm and passion we put into restoring our beautiful Villa Belforte. We discovered the property by chance after it had been abandoned for seven years and well...it was sort of like poetry...nothing planned but irresistable. For us it really is a great pleasure to share this little corner of the world with our guests, some of whom have become friends. I am very happy to assist in any way in order to ensure that your holiday somehow forfills some sort of a dream...I have a lovely friend who can cook for you or organise cooking days, wine tours, massages, visits to the local hot springs...Nothing is too much trouble. As Verdi said 'You can have the world if I can have Italy'.
We were five friends celebrating a 60th birthday looking for the perfect Tuscan experience. After months of research, we happened upon Villa Belforte. The pictures were inviting, and the reviews were reassuring.
However, neither the pictures nor the reviews could have adequately prepared us for our truly memorable experience. Kristen and Luca are the epitome of generous and accommodating hosts. The villa is impeccable, the views are breathtaking and stress-relieving, and the location of Belforte is perfect as a home-base for day trips throughout Tuscany.
To truly appreciate Villa Belforte, however, is to spend time in the villages of Belforte and nearby Radicondoli. Please follow Kristen’s restaurant recommendations as they were the most enjoyable of our entire trip, and the residents of both villages are extremely warm and welcoming.
We could exhaust words with our own personal experience, but we really just want to validate those who drew us to Villa Belforte in the first place. Do yourself a favor and choose to make this your holiday home as long as you possibly can.
First of all, my family of 6 stayed in this wonderful Belforte villa in September of 2012, not 2013, but the calendar wouldn't go back that far! I am really bad at remembering to write reviews, so that I have a moment now and still want to write about it 1.5 years later speaks to how perfectly amazing the villa, the village, Kristen and the whole experience was! I still remember my very well travelled aunt, bursting into tears after we had dinner at the local restaurant, toured the village, and she had taken her first tour around the inside of the villa and saying, "I never thought in my lifetime I would be able to experience something so beautiful". Not that I was surprised, the villa blew me away at how even more fantastic it was than the pictures - that never happens!
We were there for two weeks to celebrate my mum's 70th BD. Kristen was amazingly helpful before we even arrived at helping my sister and I to organise a surprise BD celebration with a very unique and personalised menu with the help of her friend, Lisa who is an amazing cook! I am so thankful for Kristen and Lisa for creating an experience that brought so much joy to my mother and has given us a cherished family memory. As for the menu and food, I don't have enough words to describe how sublime and delicious the food was, so I'm just gonna say YUM! Only wish we had time to do a cooking class with Lisa in Sienna!
We drove all over Tuscany exploring the countryside, castles, wine regions and markets. Every recommendation that Kristen made, we squeezed it into our own itinerary and were highlights of our trip. One of those unexpected trips we took was to the Greve in Chianti Classico Wine Fair - fabulous, not to be missed! However, we were always thankful that we could lose the crowds and return to Belforte to what we had come to Tuscany hoping for - an authentic italian tuscan village and villa!
Thank you Kristen for sharing your home and all the love and energy that you have put into the Villa and into creating an experience of a lifetime! Ciao bella, Fiona
If you are able to stay here you are in for a real treat! First off, Kristen and her husband are true professionals, and have thought of everything to make your stay enjoyable.
The house is stunning not only inside but is designed to take advantage of its beautiful setting. It is divided up on three levels. On the entrance level is a double bedroom with en suite bath, a half bathroom with laundry facilities, entrance foyer and library/tv room. Downstairs is a beautiful living area with double doors that lead out onto the gorgeous terrace and gardens. The living area opens up to the modern kitchen and dining. There is also a convenient half-bath located on this level. Upstairs on the top floor are three bedrooms, one with en suite bath with double shower. The other two bedrooms share the bathroom with shower and bathtub. The bedrooms are divided up in a way that gives maximum privacy, and the views from all windows are spectacular! We really enjoyed watching the flocks of sheep on the hillside!
The house and garden is built right on the wall of Belforte, so step right outside the front door and you are in an enchanting little village. It is very tiny, but affords peace and quiet and it does have great pizza! Just a 10 min drive away is Radicondoli, which offers more by the way of shops and restaurants. Pay attention to Kristen's suggestions as to where to eat and go! She really knows the area, and we greatly benefited by listening! I have to say that the house is a great value for what you receive. We hope to be back in a couple of years! But above all we want to thank our hosts for sharing their beautiful home, expertise and for giving us a peek into life in this amazing section of Italy!
Stunning situation on the edge of a pretty, unspoilt hill-top village, Villa Belforte has it all. Real sense of spaciousness, beautiful design, views to die for and top quality finish throughout. Impressive attention to detail – from the lighting to the quality of the linen and the understated chic of the furniture and fittings. The house is so well laid out (and well sound-proofed) that we never felt on top of each other – a recipe for a happy family holiday! The spa proved popular with the children (aged 4 - 18) and has the unexpected bonus of shade – and a wonderful view.
Quiet, almost traffic-free village meant that the children could wander up to the bar for an ice-cream in safety. We enjoyed the village setting – as much for the local character as for the delicious pizza!
This is one of the few holiday houses we have actually been sad to leave, and we’ll definitely be back – next time for longer. Thank you Kristen.
Our stay included myself and my two daughters and their spouses/boyfriend. I had my own private bedroom on the middle level and they were all upstairs. They had their privacy and I had mine.
We arrived on a Sarturday afternoon, driving in from Rome. We walked up the hill to the local pizza/bar brought home some pizza and had dinner outdoors . (pizza was5 to 6 Euro) It was a perfect end to the day.
The villa was every bit as good as advertised. The view from the back was spectacular!!
We took sidetrips almost everyday and relaxed in the hot tub every night.
The only restaurant in Radicondoli we tried was Trattoria La Pergola. We liked it so much we did not try any others.
The villa had everything we needed and more. The attention to detail in every room is hard to believe for a rental property. It was great.
Eight of us traveled from the USA to Belforte, Radicondoli for a two week visit. We had a wonderful time. We used the villa as home base and traveled everywhere! Kristen, you were a kind and considerate host. We especially liked the recommendation for Elisa and Paolo to come and prepare two meals for us. We would recommend your villa to anyone. The view from your patio is beyond spectacular and the house was everything the pictures showed. Thank you very much.
Belforte is a very picturesque medieval village in the province of Siena.Perched up high on a Tuscan hill reminding us of its history as a castle and fort you can enjoy magnificent 360°views of the rolling hills and villages. It is the perfect location for a relaxing holiday in Tuscany where the locals still live according to the seasons and time seems almost to have stopped still. Small and poetic it still however luckily offers a restaurant, pizzeria, bar, small grocery store selling fresh produce, a post office and of course a couple of churches and a small civic museum. Belforte is an oasis of quiet and beauty as well as being a great base for exploring the art treasures and culinary treats of Tuscany. It is also an excellent place to experience real village life with the friendly locals who still treat the foreigners like celebrities...practice your Italian, head to the nearby coast, enjoy the excellent nearby thermal spas or just the 'dolce vita' from your own stunning villa
