It's sparkling turquoise water is total refreshment for your work worn selves. Our log home is our personal haven full of books and relaxation. Master bedroom has a king; a queen in Sara's room, gramps room has a double, and a queen in the loft. Two bathrooms, towels and linens included. Stainless steel appliances in the kitchen and the laundry room. We have a canoe and 2 really nice mountain bikes, an outdoor fire pit ( with firewood) and a huge deck with a grill. 200 feet of lake front with sand beaches for the kids and flowers beds for all. Our golf courses are carved out of heaven with breathtaking views of forests and rolling valleys. Come to Gaylord, the Alpine Village. Bring your toothbrush and leave your troubles behind.
For over twenty years my wife ran the health food store in Gaylord while I ran the bookstore. Could you even imagine a more satisfying occupation than being a bookseller. Well now we are both into our second careers; day caring our 2 grandchildren. They are a lot of work and we are exhausted but we get lots of hugs and kisses.
Owner/Property Manager purchased this house in 1993
We love this place so much. I have to pinch myself when I'm sitting with my feet up and a book in my lap looking out over Opal Lake. We are happy to share our home with you at least until we aren't needed for our day jobs.
This lakefront property was a GREAT fit for our family! It was even more charming than we expected. The long wooded drive leads to the back gated yard filled with perennials & annuals. From our first steps inside the log home we were charmed with just the right balance of modern & rustic features. With all the comforts of home, it was easy to settle in. The views of the lakefront from the house, from the roomy decking, and also the fire pit area are just beautiful. It was easy to feel relaxed inside and out. The neighboring properties are close enough to give the sense of community, but far enough to have privacy. (What a bonus to have the nearly invisible fencing along property line for our furry family members - never had to worry!). Our 16 year old loved the loft, the dock for our wave runner, and the big flat screen tv. Our 10 year old enjoyed the beach sand & clean water swimming that starts off shallow, along with the canoe, and all the colorful dragon flies. I loved the book room, the entire waterfront, and the open living and dining area for family games and movie nights. My husband fished off the dock every day and caught a few nice Bass. Our furry kids were in the lake chasing tennis balls non stop. We made a fire nearly every night with the generous amount of wood provided. The shower head & platform off the deck is genius! (no sandy feet or dogs). This was the most relaxing up north lake home vacation we've ever had. Duke & Susan, you were wonderful to work with. Thank you for sharing your little piece of Heaven. Simply idyllic.
We'd never been there before and it was a lovely surprise. Loved all the flowers that greet you as you get to the end of the long driveway through an older pine woods. The house is simple, yet charming and warm. Looks just like the pictures. We especially loved the back porch with the view of the lake. The deck is quite spacious and completely childproof. It was as good for a rainy day as a sunny one because of the charm of the log walls and that lovely porch. The kitchen was nice and we liked the openness of the kitchen/dining area. And the walk down to the lake surrounded by more flowers was a real treat. We appreciated the quiet as we were there just to relax and enjoy the lake. Gaylord is also a lovely town with plenty of shopping and dining. The owners were easy to deal with and we'd definitely recommend it to our friends. We look forward to visiting again.
We spent a glorious week at this amazing log cabin. A wonderful marriage of both old and new. All the rustic feel of up north yet with all the modern amenities. The minute you walk into the cabin, it feels like home-due greatly to the owners very apparent love and care of this beautiful place nestled on the shore of Opal Lake. I'm uncertain how they can remove themselves from it, but those of us fortunate to live here, albeit briefly, benefit greatly! Sitting on the dock watching the sunrise every morning was breathtaking. Even the morning when there was fog. A tranquil , relaxing sanctuary surrounded by beautiful woods. Wonderful location-easy access to freeways and close enough to town yet far enough away to feel remote. A great blend of a peaceful setting as well as being an all sports lake. It has so much to offer. A sandy beach area, great views of the lake, a fire pit for bonfires, and lovely gardens. Such a glorious home this is, we cannot wait to return next summer and hopefully every year after.
My wife and children and I have stayed at this lakefront home three times over the past six years and we have had a wonderful experience each time. The owner accurately describes the details of the home in the listing information and the home is well-maintained and clean. We have never had any problems or issues whatsoever.. The owners are very nice and readiliy available to answer any questions that might arise. A neighbor of ours stayed at the home before we did, and invited one of our children to go with them on that occasion, which is how we learned of the availabiity of the home. I would certainly recommend this property for a relaxing stay up North in Michigan. The lake is only steps from the home and there is a great patio deck for lounging and cooking out. The Gaylord area is so convenient for all sorts of activities - golfing, canoeing on the Au Sable River in Grayling, drive up to the Mackinac Bridge and Mackinac Island for a day trip, go to Petosky for shopping, or to Sleeping Bear Dunes. Plenty to do, since Gaylord is so centrally located. But, the best part is just lounging at the home and being in the water. All in all, a great time.
17 golf incredible golf courses, canoeing on the Ausable and the Sturgeon Rivers, Hartwick Pines; Virgin pines and lumbering museum, Mackinaw Island; horse drawn carriage rides, the Grand Hotel and fudge, scenic bicycling right out the driveway, doorstep to the Pigeon River State Forest, Indoor water park at Boyne Mountain if you can drag yourselves away from the fabulous Opal Lake!
