Holualoa House Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, Sleeps 7

Travelers, you may book online! Our calendar shows our actual availability.

We offer our home with pleasant mountain breezes, panoramic ocean views and gorgeous sunsets.

Our vacation home offers three bedrooms, two baths, a fully equipped kitchen with dining area, an indoor living room with TV, wireless internet service, and laundry facilities. Relax and enjoy the peaceful ocean views while you have your breakfast or coffee on the huge lanai in the morning or with a glass of wine in the evening absorbing the beautiful Kona sunsets.

If it's ocean side and a swimming pool you want, then this is not the place for you. The sea level locations require air conditioning and you will find yourself locked up instead of enjoying Hawaii's beautiful climate at just a little higher elevation like our home is.

Enjoy pleasant breezes Hawaiian style supplemented with ceiling fans in each room which allow you to awaken to the birds singing.

Bring your swim suit, beach towel, and flip flops and your good to go. Tina will prepare for your arrival and assist with any questions during your stay.

We are Clyde and Dianne Sebastian, originally from Minnesota but met while we were both teaching school in Australia. We have four adult children and three granddaughters. We have been Texans since 1984. We discovered the Big Island when we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in 1999. We fell in love with Hawaii and eventually purchased our home in 2007. At this time we still spend most of our time on the mainland and thus our fully furnished home is available to you for vacation rental. Dianne has a rewarding career working with students who have dyslexia and Clyde has recently returned to coaching high school wrestling. This keeps us on the mainland for now.

Clyde Sebastian purchased this house in 2007

We purchased this home because the lanai across the front of the home gave us a true Hawaiian feeling. Being built in 2003 it is clean and fresh. You enter our home on the second level and as you enter you will already see the ocean through the patio doors out to the lanai. The ceramic tile floors eliminate any worn out carpet. The master has a king bed with a private full bath. The second bedroom also has a king bed which makes for private sleeping for two couples. The third bedroom has a single bed and a desk which provides a place for your laptop. The queen sofa is a hide-abed if needed. You will find you spend most of your time out on the lanai where we have three tables and nine chairs. Our pricing allows you to save money for a longer stay or to do the Manta night dive. You will be pleased with the climate, fresh air, and comfort of our home.

We have stayed at the Waikaloa Hilton for a few nights. The Hilton is fabulous with the canal, monorail, dolphins and private bay. However, at over $300 a night and no place to prepare a quick light meal, we find our home offers much better value. You can still visit the Hilton any day to just watch their dolphins - something we still enjoy doing occasionally.

By staying at our home you will not be cooped-up in a hotel room or have to use air conditioning. In fact there is none. However, the mountain breezes flow through the home and with the ceiling fans you will find you can relax comfortably during the day and may still need to pull the covers up at night. We are just a little over three miles from the main part of Kona and close to good snorkeling, swimming, and surfing. Couples, friends, and families choose to take advantage of our location and pricing, and find that our home gives them the space and beds they need while providing the opportunity to prepare a few meals to enjoy on the lanai rather than eating at restaurants all the time.

Our home gives you a good perspective of what it would be like to actually live in Hawaii. Try it, and you will not be disappointed.

Spacious and very well equipped. Friendly and informative hosts, wonderful sunsets and sea views from the lanai. Easy access to lots of places we wanted to visit - coffee farm, place of refuge, sea horse farm, Kahaluu beach park where we saw a turtle, Holualoa village with art galleries and wonderful Holuako Gardens cafe. Would recommend this place wholeheartedly.

KONA RENTAL HOUSE

  • 3 of 5
The good - The house was clean and ready upon our arrival. It had pretty much everything we needed in the unit during our stay. We did not have any problems with furnishings, utilities, or anything else. It was a good deal for what we paid for the rental.

The not so good - Potential renters should be aware that the house is in a somewhat rundown neighborhood. In the area there are numerous abandoned/non-running cars, some up on blocks. Some properties are maintained, some not at all. The backyard of the rental unit needs some attention as it is overgrown. There is also a falling down tent/carport in the rear with a car under it that appears to be non-functioning. The unit is in a residential (not tourist) neighborhood. One morning there was a domestic violence going on in a nearby house. Had we known which house, we would have called the police. I have not heard so many screaming F-bombs dropped in a long time. Another day there was the extremely strong odor of marijuana wafting in the kitchen window. At night the next door neighbors (not downstairs) were outside talking loudly enough that when we went to bed, we had to close our bedroom windows which makes it quite warm.

For the most part, the issues which were a little frustrating and made the stay less relaxing are not anything the property owners have control over. The only advice I would pass on to them is to have the exterior cleaned up a little. It wasn't bad, but it definitely needs some maintenance.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review. I wish you would have called me about your concerns. At that time we could have re-accommodated you at our timeshare condo.

Our home is located in a kama’aina Hawaiian neighborhood with a blend of cultures and economics. One of our satisfied guests described it as “Authentic”, perhaps because a neighbor teaches children Hula in her driveway.

The back yard and driveway have been cleared including the vines on the papaya and yucca trees. We are changing our yard care provider going forward. The car tent cover has been replaced after being destroyed by a storm. Our car is a very operational and fun PT Cruiser Convertible. A house at the north east corner or the circle is very run down and does have broken down cars on the lot. The good thing is the Hawaii plant growth hides most everything from view. Take a left at the circle to avoid driving by it. MOST homes are well maintained.

I am sorry that you had to hear that bad language especially your children. The couple involved is getting help. Definitely, not a pleasant vacation experience. Future guests, please let me know if this happens.

Regarding hearing the next door neighbor, we do find it interesting and sometimes entertaining that we can hear our next door neighbor when they talk on the phone to their grandchildren in California. That is the trade off from a closed up air-conditioned Hawaii and open windows with natural air flow. Just this last week we compared a condo near the ocean that requires keeping the door closed and running the AC and a private estate at $200 to $300 a night that was hidden from the sun. We trade these things off for affordability, location, space, and ocean views.

Regarding the marijuana smell, I believe I know who the culprit is and the individual is not on the Island and will not be returning to the neighborhood.

After February we will be spending more time in Hawaii and will be able to keep a closer eye on things and be available to handle your concerns personally. Except for this one time, the comments we receive in our guest book indicate our guests have enjoyed our home as a base to visit the big island. It is spacious; the morning breakfasts out on the lanai looking out on the blue pacific are a great way to start your day. If you get back in time the sunsets are spectacular. Our pricing is very reasonable and as this guest stated we do have a good cleaning crew that has the place clean and ready for your visit.

A LANAI WITH OCEAN VIEW

  • 5 of 5
We spent two weeks enjoying what Big Island has to offer and at the same time we really enjoyed our stay at this property. We found the property exactly as advertised and the owners were very prompt in answering all our questions. The lanai is awesome and offers a beautiful view of the ocean. We really loved having our meals on the lanai and nothing was better than a bowl of locally grown papaya with a fresh squeeze of lime picked right from the back yard.
The house is conveniently located within 10 to 20 minute drive to shopping and 10 to 45 minutes to the main beaches and snorkeling places. Expect to drive quite a bit to see and enjoy the main attractions of the island, no matter where you choose to stay (we drove about 1700 miles in two weeks). So, do not get stuck on looking for a property close to a beach! We will definitely come back to the Big Island and we have no hesitation in choosing this place again.
Mahalo Clyde and Dianne for sharing the house with us.

GORGEOUS SUNSETS FROM THE LANAI AND I DIDN'T NEED AIR CONDITIONING!

Gorgeous Sunsets from the Lanai and I didn't need Air Conditioning!
  • 5 of 5
I have been to Hawaii several times but in the past we always stayed in air-conditioned hotels. This was my first time to stay in a vacation rental and I was concerned that there would be no air conditioning. I’m in my 60’s and I really do not handle heat very well. Often during our previous visits to Hawaii I would be locked up in my hotel room recovering from the heat while the kids were out enjoying the beach. We asked about air conditioning but the owner told us that with the elevation this home is at we wouldn’t need air conditioning. I was skeptical but decided to take the chance because of the opportunity to bring the grandkids and the house was large enough for everyone to stay together. After all my worry, I can attest that the owner was right. There are pleasant mountain breezes and every room has ceiling fans which made it comfortable during the hottest time of the day. It cooled down at night after the sun set. The sunsets from the lanai were fabulous. In fact it was so nice having the windows open and waking up to the beautiful sounds of the birds singing in the morning. I wish we would have stayed here on our previous trips rather than the hotels. This home is clean, spacious and well maintained. It has a great Kona location and is just a short drive to the shops and restaurants at Kona bay. It is very convenient to get to Kahaluu Beach Park were we snorkeled several times and saw wonderful fish and sea turtles. It was a treat to actually see whales breech from the lanai. I am so glad we took the chance to stay here and hope to return again.

Owner's Response: Mary, I am so glad that your found our home comfortable. I recall your concern about the need for air conditioning. Thank you so much for trusting me and booking your stay in spite of your concerns. What a blessed experience having your grand kids with you in paradise. We haven't experienced that yet but we will be there this summer sharing Hawaii with our youngest grand baby. We are so looking forward to it ourselves.

FAMILY VACATION

  • 5 of 5
3 of us had been to all the different Hawaiian Islands.....except the Big Island, one was a "Hawaiian Virgin".....so we were excited. The experience was all we anticipated and more. Our accommodations
were our first delight. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms....a view that words
cannot describe, was a great start to our week. We did various
activities that included: deep sea fishing (2 days), zip lining, day
road trips to the north, east and south coasts. The weather was perfect every day....we can't wait to go back.

we also enjoyed the local cuisine a few nights but did take advantage of the cooking facilities for our breakfasts and a few dinners ( which allowed us to eat on the lanai and continue to enjoy watching for whales breaching).

MORNING COFFEE AND SUNSETS FROM THE LANAI WERE AWESOME!

  • 5 of 5
We used this as a landing place for our move to the Big Island. It sure beat the hotel we were staying at. The kitchen was well equipped an the home was well maintained and clean. We were awaken by birds singing and had or breakfast out on the lanai. Our days were filled exploring the Kona area and looking for permanent housing. This place has an ideal location. Jennifer and Mark we live in the lower level helped us find the good snorkeling spots. We made sure we were back before sunset so we could watch it from the lanai.

Our newer home, built in 2003, is located at a pleasant elevation yet close to Kailua Kona Bay. A 3.2 mile drive will take you to bay side restaurants and shops. Some of the best snorkel, sand, and surf beaches are just down the mountain to Alii Drive. The Kona coast offers beautiful views, coral snorkeling, dolphins, and whales. Explore coffee and macadamia nut farms. Our affordable prices give you the option to pay for a hotel or bed and breakfast when you make the trip east to see the volcano, hot ponds, and beauty of the Hamakua coast. You will want to explore the Island but it is called the Big Island for a good reason. Base out of our home and spend a night when it's low tide on the other side of the Island. The tide pools of Kapoho and the Hot Ponds are better at low tide. Tina manages things for us on the Island and will make sure everything is ready for you.

Notes:
Our guests love the open air and views from our Lanai. We have had inquiries about the need for air conditioning. No one has air conditioning at our elevation. The temperatures are pleasant and you will sleep comfortably at night. Additionally, every room has a ceiling fan which is helpful during the warmer part of the day. There is no need to enclose yourself inside and run an air conditioner. We need that back in Texas but you will be very comfortable and enjoy the open air while staying at our home in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
