About Gene Sink

Gene and Marilyn Sink are retired VT school teachers who now live on Cape Cod.

Gene Sink purchased this house in 2007

Why Gene Sink chose St Albans

We built this place after tearing down a camp built in the 1930's that was beyond saving. Having spent the last 25 yrs on the lake we want to share this special spot with others who appreciate the lake and the mountains. The living room and deck have unforgettable sunsets and lake views. It is private and quiet while near the small city of St Albans, VT. Burlington is 30 minutes away and major ski areas are less than an hour from this location.

What makes this house unique

This property has spectacular views and direct lake access.

Warm, friendly house in a gorgeous setting

  • 5 of 5
Our extended family met here for Thanksgiving week, coming from literally all points of the country for the holiday. We had 4 adults and a (small) dog staying in the house, with my parents coming over during the day for activities and cooking. We took walks, sat around the little gas stove, stared out the windows both upstairs and down, played games and had a wonderful time! We drove through the Champlain Islands sight-seeing, which was also a lot of fun. This house is amazingly well-equipped for serving a large meal, and just feels friendly. When we had questions, the owner's son was amazingly friendly and prompt in attention. The house itself is actually much prettier than in the pictures, and gorgeous even in snow! It was also spotless, inside and out. We liked it so much, we're going back next year!

Relaxing, Amazing Views, and Modern Amenities

  • 5 of 5
This lake house was perfect for our needs. My husband & I stayed here with our dog this past week. The view of St Albans bay and Lake Champlain is amazing - it is panoramic and viewed through the wall of windows and deck doors facing the west. The natural lighting that beams into the house is warming and energizing. The sound of the lake is soothing 24/7. It lulls you to sleep at night and puts you right to sleep for an afternoon nap. We enjoyed grilling out on the deck and eating our dinners watching the sunsets. We also ate our breakfasts al fresco out on the deck taking in the scenery watching the birds, early morning boaters and kayakers. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need. The beds were comfortable and the living room is relaxing. Our dog was also comfortable - we brought his bed and he just laid in his bed relaxed or he hung out with us out on the deck. There is also a pool table & games on the bottom floor. Would make a great family vacation spot.

There is plenty to do in the area. We went over to Kilkare State Park (10 minute drive from the house) & took the ferry over to Burton Island. We took a hike around the island. You can also go swimming at either park and rent canoes or kayaks. I am a jogger and was able to jog over to the town park and jog around the park. There are also plenty of country roads to jog down with beautiful scenery. The town of St. Albans is quaint - lots of downtown shops, a Saturday Farmers Market on the town square, good coffee, and a movie theater for those rainy days. We bought some local produce just north of downtown at Hudak farm. Also be sure to get your cremee from Hoss's Dogg House (but be careful when you order - the junior cone is what you might normally consider a medium!). We also drove 30 minutes into Burlington (we walked around one day and on another rented bikes and rode along the bike path along the waterfront), 1 hour to the Ben & Jerry's factory in Waterbury, and went out one night to Montreal (about an hour and 15 minutes).

Overall this place is a good value. It's got plenty of space, good location, amazing view, quaint town, and modern amenities in a well maintained house.

Owner's Response: We are very happy that others have enjoyed the lake house and surrounding area. It is a great location for foliage season too as it is in the heart of Franklin County Vermont. It is also less than an hour to Jay Peak and Smuggler's Notch ski areas during the winter season.

This is the perfect spot to enjoy Lake Champlain year round and foliage in the fall. Boating, fishing and swimming are directly accessible from your private dock. During winter ice fishing and x country skiing are right off the deck. Smugglers Notch and Jay Peak ski areas are less than an hour away. Spring brings the VT Maple Festival to town.
