Nice place for a weekend getaway

We were happy with our stay at the cottage and it had alot of pros but some cons that were brought to our attention. Originally we were supposed to have 5 adults, a child (8) and my 14 month old son stay there and thankfully some of them backed out. I think it was a little smaller than we realized. 3 adults and my son stayed and we all agreed if more stayed, we would have been crowded. Also one word of warning, it is on a main road and although not very busy, I did not feel comfortable letting my son play in the front yard. I believe this is more of a cottage for a couples getaway or a place to stay with your friends. The house was kept very well maintained for the most part. We did have to unplug a lamp that had exposed wires and knock down a huge spider web (spider included) in the bedroom that looked like it was there for a while. I loved the kitchen (kitchen had everything you would need plus more) as well as the bathroom. The beds were very comfy! It was a short walking distance to the beach as well as Frankfort is only a 10 minute drive (a town that has to be visited if you come to stay). Also, it was walking distance to town which was nice (loved Dairy King but stay away from Hungry Tummy. We all disliked our food and were sick the rest of the night) As far as a down side for the cottage, the website said that there was a washer and dryer and there was not any to be seen. It was a huge disappointment because being at the beach and having a toddler, washing clothes is a must. I don't know if there is a minimum stay requirement to use them but I felt like we were misinformed. Also, I have used homeaway.com many times and never stayed in a house where we had to make our own beds when we arrived. We drove over 6.5 hrs, got there about 11 at night, exhausted, and it was a disappointment to have to make our own beds. I know it said in the description that we do it, but some people do drive far for vacation and the last thing they want to do is be bothered with making up the beds on vacation. Another downfall, which was mentioned earlier is no grill. That would be nice to have as well. Overall, I have to say that for a weekend getaway, it is nice but nothing longer. The house was well maintained and comfortable to stay in but I would not bring small children there because of the location on a main street.
Owner's Response: I'm glad you were overall happy with your stay and the state of the cottage. You highlight some key things renters should be aware of:

-- This is a two bedroom cottage with a full bed size futon in the living room. We also provide an air mattress if a child or someone wants to sleep on the floor in the master bedroom. There is one full bathroom.
-- The cottage is on the small village of Beulah's main road, where the speed limit is 25 mph. It is not on a highway. Of course, small children should be watched given the house faces the street and there's a large lake 100 ft away.
-- We bend over backwards to make sure our renters are happy, and provide our phone number and email. Any renter who called me with a special request (like using a washer/dryer) or problem has resulted in me being on the property within half an hour to accommodate them (as other guests have noted).
-- Other cottages in this area require renters to bring their own towels and bed linens. We go the extra mile and provide these so renters don't have to bring their own. If a renter has a special request (like they're getting in late and can we please help them with linens) we're always happy to help.
-- The lamp mentioned above has gone on to the lamp graveyard. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Also, we will double and triple check for spiderwebs as we pride ourselves on making sure the cottage is immaculate (which other guests note that it is).
-- I think it's time for us to provide a grill! We will provide one for guests staying June 1, 2014, forward.
-- And yes! The beds are comfy cozy, the kitchen is well stocked utensil/appliance wise, and you can walk everywhere! With our welcome letter I provide a list of restaurants in the area we like and trust, so to be safe, I'd stick with those. Thank you!

Our weekend in Beulah

My family and I needed a place to stay on short notice for a memorial for my mother and this was the perfect place for us. It met all of our needs for the weekend, was comfortable and cozy. Home away from home. Just what we needed. I loved the beautiful flowers that were around the home. What a warm added touch. I would recommend this place to anyone. PS: My daughter could not stop talking about how comfortable the bed was. Thank you again.

Beautiful vacation spot with all the comforts of home!

As soon as we walked inside, my fiancee and I felt welcomed and the atmosphere was cozy, which is commendable when you're entering an empty house in an unfamiliar area. Everything was clean and it was evident that the owners care for this home and their guests. The kitchen supplied above and beyond everything a couple of home chefs like us needed to prepare full dinners - and yes, gas range & oven!! Mattresses were acceptably comfortable, including the futon in the living room. There were three pillows per bed and fresh, soft linens, comforters, and blankets were provided on request. It got surprisingly chilly at night - low 50s in August?! Thus the A/C was not needed at all. Unreal for our Texan blood, however the daytime was so pleasant and warm enough to swim and kayak in Crystal Lake just blocks away. And wow, the scenery is just gorgeous!! Indeed true walking distance to a quaint little town for a bite or a drink, but keep in mind this is a village community which is pretty quiet. Restaurant-wise we liked the Cherry Hut, but we mainly cooked meals and enjoyed relaxing in the lounge chairs among the flowers in the front yard to recoup from the day's adventures. The grocery store was a brief trip in the car and Sleeping Bear Dunes, a mere half hour away, is a must see for all ages. I would recommend this cottage to all my friends and family & would rent again myself.

Owner's Response: Glad you had a good stay! There's lots to do here in the winter too (believe it or not). We can provide extra warm quilts for cold winter nights.

Perfect spot in quiet area near downtown Beulah! One row of homes away from pristine Crystal Lake, with great fishing and breathtaking sunsets. The public beach (5 minute walk) has several hundred feet of sandy shore, a beach house, tennis courts, a playground and parking. Swimming is great at the beach with its sandy bottom and safely marked swimming area. The park has a large pavilion, barbeques, picnic tables and is almost entirely shaded by majestic hardwoods. During the summer there are frequent 'Music in the Park' evening concerts offered at no charge. The boat launch is ample and well-maintained,. The launch is ideal for the launching or removal of most any size or type of watercraft. Use of the launch is free. The Betsie Valley Trail runs between Frankfort and Thompsonville, including the village of Beulah in its long stretch. Beulah has overnight lodging, shopping, restaurants and parking to accommodate the biking traveler. Watersports too numerous to mention (kayaking on Betsie or Platte Rivers, sailing, water skiing, jet skiing, pontoon boating, etc.). In winter there is downhill and cross-country skiing, as well as snowmobiling and snowshoeing.
