About Susan Huffman

I grew up in Florida, moved to NYC, Philadelphia & Santa Fe, NM for 23 years prior to moving back to St. Augustine in 1995. I was a former professional dancer and owned a physical therapy and Pilates wellness center in St. Augustine for 15 years. I recently moved back to Northern New Mexico but still call St. Augustine my home.

Susan Huffman purchased this house in 1995

Why Susan Huffman chose St. Augustine

Conveniently located between St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra. My home offers easy access to I 95, outlet malls, golf, water sports and historical sites. Within walking distance of three waterfront restaurants. Two miles from the Vilano Town Center with Publix, a salon, dry cleaning, restaurants, beach wear, a water park, boat rentals and fishing pier.

What makes this house unique

Open floor plan with great ocean views from every room. Walk out your back door to the beach. This property is in an established neighborhood of single family homes. No dwellings over 35 feet high from Vilano Beach to Ponte Vedra Beach.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Susan,

Our stay was awesome! Your house is beautiful & serene. Coming from a family of artists - your decor and touches are placed with special thought. I thank you for allowing your home to be our home for a short while. No email's were looked and or answered. That's saying a lot of how restful it was. Our family had a great time while they were here. Much love and laughter we shared. I enjoyed several of your books which were thought provoking.

Thanks again!

Perfect beach home

  • 5 of 5

Stayed for 2 weeks and only wish it could have been longer. My wife and I stayed with 2 young children aged 2 and 4 months. We spent days on the beach and splashing in the surf. Although we enjoyed exploring St Augustines we found the local restaurants to be the best and they were in walking distance so the location is perfect for us. The property is very well set up so time inside was also enjoyed. We would highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a Vilano/St Augustines break.

We will be back!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time--Beautiful home and great location! The beach was easy to enjoy via the steps--the problems must have been taken care of--and we enjoyed watching our dog playing in the surf! The views are tremendous and very relaxing. We enjoyed Caps on the Water restaurant and are looking forward to warmer weather to take advantage of the outdoor seating. You will not be disappointed by this home!

Owner's Response: Dear Karen, I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay and coming from an experienced VRBO renter I am happy to know you want to come back! The comments you and your sister left in the guest book about the house design, coziness and warmth made me feel good as well. I'm happy that you found the access to the beach easy and convenient and were able to enjoy the beach with your dog! I look forward to having you back in the future. Sincerely, Susan

A secluded paradise setting, superbly furnished, tastefully decorated.

So close to the ocean! The house was comfortable, beautiful and relaxing. We enjoyed the hot tub on the deck while listening to the surf. Didn't want to leave after our 5 days. A great find. Can't wait to come back.

Beautiful beach home without the beach

  • 1 of 5

This home is beautiful and comfortable but it ruined our vacation. We researched beaches where dogs could be on the beach with a leash and this beach allowed it.

But no beach--not only was there no beach at all most of the time when tide was up but the stairs were not there to reach the beach. There was no way to get on the beach as there was a five foot drop between walk and the beach.

The owner returned our call when we were on the road home and was surprised to hear the beach was not accessible. She did return some of our money but our vacation was ruined.

We did not get a beach vacation in this beach house. We only get to the beach once a year and this trip took time away from work and miles driven from Atlanta and no beach. We could have extended our stay but could not find beach front on short notice.

Our money should be refunded because we were promised beach access.

Owner's Response: Dear Nancy, As I said in our previous telephone discussion, I am so sorry for the unfortunate timing of the severe weather event that caused erosion on the beach during your stay. If I had known about the erosion at the time, I would have definitely called you to give you a chance to cancel or postpone for another date. If you found the situation unacceptable upon arrival & notified me immediately, I could have had the steps dug out for you and the access made available or try to help you find other accommodations. Since you didn't send your email until the day before you checked out of your four night stay, there was nothing I could have even tried to do to make your stay more enjoyable. Even though I didn't receive your complaint until the day before you left, I refunded half of your rental fee and all of your cleaning deposit. Most rentals do not refund anything as it is assumed that we have no control over the weather. I checked the Vacation Rental Protection policies that were made available on the VRBO website and none of their policies cover weather events or natural disasters. You may want to pursue other policies that cover such events for future beachfront vacations. If I knew of one I would list it on my site as an option for my guests. In your earlier email you said the home was "fabulous!" so I hope that made up somewhat for your disappointment with problems accessing the beach with your dogs. I am disappointed for you as well as I have enjoyed walking my dog on the same beach for many years. I offer a 5% discount for all returning guests and hope you will consider my property again in the future. Sincerely, Susan
