Only 300metres from the unspoiled Lagada beach and a short distance from the centre of Makrigialos, with numerous tavernas, bars, cafe's and stunning blue flag beaches which offer a wide range of water sports.

This beautiful modern Crete apartment is just what you and your family need with satellite TV and DVD, internet access, fridge, dishwasher, microwave and a cooker, you can feel right at home, but unlike England it is guaranteed to be hot all year round.

Makrigialos is blessed with five separate beaches. the main blue flag sandy beach stretches from the harbour for half a mile providing a safe gently shelving bathing beach ideal for children and family holidays. Couples will also enjoy the variety of beach front bars, tavernas and restaurants which stretch down to the harbour. The main beach offers a wide range of water sports with excellent snorkelling off the rocks at the end of the beach. Makrigialos has its own archaeological site in the remains of a Roman villa above the stunning harbour. Just a short drive takes you to secluded beaches and coves, interesting monasteries and hilltop churches, the harbour towns of Sitia and Irepetra with its fantastic Saturday market, waterfront restaurant bars and tavernas. Spectacular gorges and timeless traditional Cretan villages such as Pefki and Agios Stefanos dot the mountainsides. Makrigialos remains a relatively undiscovered gem of a holiday village.

Can I complain about it being too relaxing? I thought I'd manage a couple of walks over the week, but in the mornings there was the pool to lounge near, and later in the day we gravitated to the harbourside.... so I suppose we'll have to return next year for the walks..... We did make it to the aquarium one day, which was worth seeing.
The apartment was just right for two older people, with everything we needed. I imagine the apartments would be busier and noisier in the main holiday season, but in the spring, it was quite peaceful.

Wonderfully relaxing family holiday!

We stayed for a week in this beautiful apartment near to the town of Makrygialos. The apartment was ideal for 2 adults and our 2 small children (6 and 2). It was very clean and was fully fitted with everything you could want when going self-catered - including a dishwasher!! The only downside would be the size of the children's bedroom which contains a bunk-bed but not much room for anything else. This didn't bother us as the kids never spent any time in it, choosing to enjoy the poolside area or the beautiful sandy beach nearby.

The local town had numerous tavernas serving excellent food. We had a fantastic family holiday and would definitely like to return next year.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway
