About Jim Bertlesman

Diana and Jim are both retired after long and successful careers in the technology arena. Diana grew up in Missouri and is a graduate of Drury University. Jim grew up in upstate New York and is a graduate of Syracuse University. They have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 20 years.

Jim Bertlesman purchased this cottage in 2005

Why Jim Bertlesman chose Sonoma

We joyfully lived in Casa de Luna for a year, while our new home was being built. This unique and coveted location is only a 15 minute walk, 5 minute bike ride and .5 mile drive to downtown Sonoma Square. It is quiet, peaceful and has everything you need to live for a month or a lifetime.

Behind the cottage, there are mountain and meadow views, surrounded by flower gardens, olive and fruit trees, starry skies and full moons. Fresh country eggs from our chickens await you, along with a special bottle of wine. A serene country setting, for both friends and family, is the ideal getaway.

What makes this cottage unique

The Casa de Luna is a specially crafted cottage, situated on one acre and located in the heart of the city of Sonoma. The exclusive cottage offers designer style living in 840 square feet, with field and mountain views from a beautiful patio in the rear. Casa de Luna cottage consists of two major buildings, connected by a breezeway. The cottage is located in the rear of our property with complete privacy and security. Parking is next to the cottage. it is .5 miles to town and a 15 minute walk. The cottage is next to the bike trail, for easy access to restaurants, wineries and the Town Square.

It is also an easy driving distance to some of the most scenic areas of the country...San Francisco (45 minutes), the North coast of Mendocino (one hour), Lake Tahoe (3 hours) and Yosemite ( 3 hours).

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5
This VRBO suited the two of us perfectly! My husband and I stayed for a long weekend this fall, we like staying within walking distance of the Sonoma Square. While this was a bit of a hike to the square it was worth it. The property was exactly as described, there are two bathrooms, the full bath is in a separate building from the bedroom--which worked out great for us. The back porch was great to hang out on at night or in the mornings. Watching the chickens was entertaining. The bed was very comfortable and it was so quiet out here that we slept very well. Would definitely recommend this spot and we'd stay here again in a heartbeat!

Honeymoon

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I stayed at the cottage for three nights during the month of August for our honeymoon. We LOVED it! The owners were helpful, but gave us our privacy. The cottage was beautiful, clean, and had a very homey feel. There were also fresh eggs available from the hen house. We loved that we could safely walk to Sonoma Square, and take a short car ride to so many wineries and breweries. We highly recommend this cottage!

Excellent Rental Property

  • 5 of 5
My girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay at this cottage. The owners were so responsive to emails and phone calls prior to our arrival, and gave perfect instructions on directions, how to enter, and use the TV etc. We happened to have a strong earthquake in the early morning our second night and they were so kinda and came to check on us, making sure we had flash lights and were OK. Very romantic and quiet.

We're happy you enjoyed the cottage and the Sonoma Valley. Come back and visit us soon. We can't promise another earthquake but we'll try to think of something equally entertaining.

Quaint, peaceful cottage

  • 5 of 5
My boyfriend and I enjoyed a two night stay at this sweet cottage. We were immediately impressed by the owners responsiveness in our booking of the cottage. Upon our arrival, we were both pleasantly surprised by the gorgeous property, the amount of space we had, the tidiness & the beautiful fresh flowers that the owner left in the rooms for us! The king bed is super comfy and the French doors are perfect for letting in light and fresh air. We felt like the property was private, secluded and peaceful. We even got a call from the owner letting us know that we were welcome to collect eggs from the chicken coop for breakfast! There were fresh herbs in the garden and plenty of supplies in the kitchen for cooking up some fresh and delicious eggs before visiting the nearby wineries! The owners are very sweet. We have stayed in fancy hotels in the area but we will most certainly be returning to this cottage for future stays instead!

Sweet Retreat!

  • 5 of 5
This place was an excellent way to start our California vacation! The accommodations were spacious, clean and classic California stylish! Jim was a great host providing BBQ briquettes and fresh eggs from the chickens out back. We truly relaxed in Sonoma wine country at this spot. It was close the Sonoma town and in fact we went running both mornings to the town square and back in about 30 minutes. We look forward to one day coming back to this wonderful spot.

Sonoma Cottage

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I had a wonderful time staying at this cottage. Both the bedroom side and kitchen side were fantastic (LOVED the bed), and the extensive back outdoor area was ideal. We spent a good amount of time reading on the patio lounge chairs and hammock. Jim was a wonderful host, and we would absolutely stay here again without hesitation.
