Fishing season opens the last Saturday in April.
My wife and I have been sharing our 'slice of heaven' for 31 years.
Steve Kellar purchased this cottage in 1984
Unlike many lake properties where the cabins are close to one another, Silver Rock will give you the feel of the only cottage on the entire lake. Another cottage cannot be seen from our shore.
One visit to Silver Rock will give you that true 'up north' feeling. Lake Huron is approx. 3 miles away and there are smaller Trout streams in any direction. The American Indians referred to this area as 'Sacred Land'. It is the ideal location for outdoor lovers and sportsman.
We just returned from our stay at Silver Rock. The cottage was everything we could have hoped for and more. Very clean, well maintained property, and hosts that were very helpful. The pictures of the property just don't do it justice. Seeing is believing. The seclusion of the cottage was the best part of our stay. There are so many things to see in this area of the state and our hosts were very knowledgeable about local history and landmarks. We took advantage of the fishing boat and paddle boat to explore the lake. We saw eagles and a loon - who called to us in the morning. We would love to make this an annual destination, and highly recommend it.
What a wonderful experience staying at Steve and Vickie's cottage. Very clean, inviting, peaceful and scenic!!! So much do to in the area. My family really enjoyed the quite and the fishing. You are just down the road from a gorgeous bike path that winds around beautiful lake Huron. I can't say enough about the hospitatilaty Steve and Vickie showed us!
My wife, and a couple's friend spent 5 nights at this cottage and made these days very relaxing and a rewarding experience. I could really be very complimentary to this cottage if the weather had cooperated just a little bit more. However, we live in Michigan and just wait 5 minutes and what was an 80 degree day can turn 65 and rainy, and that was our trip. The savings grace was we chose to go to Ocqueoc Falls on the only warm day during our stay and it was delightful. The trip with our friends couldn't have been any better, they are terrific people and my wife and I hope this relationship can last our remaining years, so, 20 plus years then.
I would have given this cottage a 5 star and much more had the amenities favored us such as the fire pit being nearby and closer to our cottage. We had one fire!, and I believe if more convenient and closer access to our cottage we would have enjoyed it more and not have had to race to the cottage to use the bathroom and then navigate back to a fire pit a couple hundred yards away and on another piece of property all together. Our friends and my wife and I enjoy many morning and evening fires so we understand what a fire brings to a vacation
In light of all of this we found so much to do from taking the lighthouse tour as we were nearby having a picnic on Lake Huron. Picking rocks for a teachers friend school project to just talking with our friends in a loose and rewarding way with Lake back drop was compelling and serene.
Lastly, and with good humor we were made aware that a bird feeder cage went missing and it was such a concern that we actually felt guilty of stealing it. So, to lighten the mood we made joke of it. I am sure some squirrel in their ever intelligent ways carted off with that bundle so as to figure out how to open and eat the contents inside. What was hilarious is at the last moment and just before leaving we did see a squirrel with empty cage in its mouth hooking it back up to the chain so as to remind the homeowners to please fill the thing up again!!!
I would recommend you stay at this well kept, well located and wonderful cottage. The shower pressure is great. You feel clean that's for sure. It is absolutely amazing the sites and peace you gather while visiting. Oh!, the fishing was horrible. We visited and spent many hours going from one tip of the lake to the next and caught two fish! That's fishing though. Don't forget your OFF! Deep woods OFF!!!
My wife and two boys spent a week at Silver Rock Cottage and loved any minute. The hosts, Steve and Vickie, are discreet but very friendly and work to ensure the best possible time. A beautiful setting- quiet and peaceful, with no other houses in sight. The boys couldn't get enough of the paddleboat and we took advantage of the other two boats, too, plus a 3 hour canoe trip down the Ocqueoc River to Lake Huron. The cottage, which is immaculate and comfortable, is relaxing but there's lots to do close-by. It's also just an hour from Petoskey and the Mackinac ferry. We made lots of memories and look forward to coming back (with or without the kids!).
We loved the location of the cottage and the beautiful view of the lake. Everything was clean, our hosts were so friendly and helpful, and we had a great secluded atmosphere. Plus our two young daughters enjoyed the paddle boat and the motor boat. 5 stars for sure! There are a lot of things to do close by; Black Mountain Rec Area has many trails for hiking, XC-skiing. The Ocqueoc Falls while small are still something to see. Kayaking or canoeing Ocqueoc Lake and/or Ocqueoc River from the lake to Lake Huron would be another great thing to do. We plan to return.
We stayed at the cottage last summer and had a wonderful experience. Friendly owners and a great location. Took our motorcycles from Ohio and had the experience of a lifetime! We will definetely be back.
Although our cottage is a very secluded setting, there are many activities within a 1 hour drive. Gaylord is a golf mecca. Petosky has many shops as well as a Casino. Mackinaw Island is famous for its shops as well as it's historical importance.
