The Sunshine Coast is a 40 minute ferry ride from Vancouver. Experience coastal living in this tastefully renovated waterfront cottage just steps from your own private beach. Breathtaking views of the Popham Islands in the foreground and Vancouver in the background. Feel at home with complete privacy and simple comfort in this historic living space.
A convenient vacation destination, discover your Sunshine Coast personality with magnificent access to year round activities, nearby restaurants and shops. Wake to the sounds of seals slapping in the water, birds singing and eagles calling. The sun room provides a restful dining space overlooking one of the oldest Arbutus trees on the coast.
Relax with a book on the day bed or walk 200 steps down the meandering forest trail to the beach for suntanning, swimming or beach combing. At the end of the day have a soak in the tub, unwind in front of the cosy fireplace and enjoy dinner on the patio where the afternoon sun filters through 150 year old Coniferous trees and mature gardens.
When you are ready to retreat to the bedroom you will be instantly relaxed by the calming sound of waves crashing on the beach.
We met in Deep Cove, North Vancouver in 1991 and fell in love with each other, surrounded by the mountains, ocean and temperate rain forests of British Columbia. After travelling, school, and all the big milestones that one passes in their thirties, we settled on the Sunshine Coast in 2008. As vacationers, we rent using VRBO and enjoy having a home away from home.
Vanessa Knox purchased this cottage in 2013
Steve and I always dreamt of owning waterfront. This location is close to everything, but private enough to enjoy a quiet lifestyle. The property has a lot of history for the area and the timing was perfect for us.
Built in 1936 by Mr. Kelly himself, this cottage has many unique features. Cpt. William E. Kelly from the Isle of Mann. had civil and mechanical engineering degrees. Kelly Road was named after him. He was Weyerhauser's Superintendent in Washington in 1932.
Walking down the garden path to the front door you will immediately notice a mature and meandering garden landscape. Inside the beach chic designed cottage the original Douglas fir flooring and panelling was restored. A Manx inscription on the arts and craft mantle describes his perspective about life on the Sunshine Coast. You have your own private forested trail, 200 steps to the beach below. Breakfast in the sunroom over looking one of the oldest Arbutus trees in the area provides a living space set in nature.
My wife and I spent our honeymoon at this cottage instead of going out of country, and we were so glad we did.
This ad, as detailed as it is does not do justice to the actual value you're getting. Everything was clean, from the stainless steel equipped and fully stocked kitchen to the bathroom. Very warm and cozy (but still very spacious), start the fireplace or turn up the central heating.
The view is amazing, and you really do get private access to the south facing beach. Every time we walked down 2 mins from the back yard, it was as if we had the entire beach to ourselves in the middle of summer. The cottage itself is only 5 mins from the ferry but the seclusion of the entire place was a big surprise.
With the 100+ year old Arbutus tree, almost daily wildlife visits, and no shortage of amenities, you are immersed in nature without compromising comfort. At this nightly rate we couldn't imagine getting a place any better than this.
We have a very nice stay!! It was everything we were looking for...The property and views are beautiful. The cottage is well decorated and cozy – just the right size for two people. The bonus of it being pet friendly won us over. We loved the daybed in the sunroom. It had all the amenities we needed. The beach below the cottage is a rough walk down and up, but totally worth it! The beach is quiet and amazing.
The location is great and Gibsons is worth exploring. There is lots to do in the area: we hiked, golfed, fished and shopped.
We will definitely be returning to the area and would stay again at this place!
There is no BBQ, but we made do cooking our fish on the fire.
Only downfall- There was the reminant smell of stale cigarettes in the cottage even with windows open when we first arrived, but we stopped noticing it after the first few hours in the cottage.
My boyfriend and I and our little puppy spent two nights in January for my birthday in this very beautifully built cabin with it's gorgeous garden and yard, just a few minutes uphill from a quiet, rocky, west coast beach. We were immediately impressed by the absolutely spotless, cute, retro-kitchen. It's completely stocked with all necessary cooking equipment and has new stainless steel appliances. Everywhere are touches of thoughtfully placed decor but is uncluttered. We specifically chose this place for its proximity to the beach and the artisan wood-burning fireplace. So we were at first disappointed that there was no kindling and no axe on-site, but when we left a message for the owners, an axe showed up at the door the very next day. We also loved taking the rustic trail down to the beach (it only takes less than 5 mins going up or down, but could be longer depending on fitness and mobility as it is steep-but does have guard rails). The cabin is also just a 5 min drive to the waterfront in Gibsons with cute shops and restaurants. For great grub, check out the Gumboot Cafe for breakfast and Sharky's Fish & Chips for lunch-both in Roberts Creek, a 10 min drive away.
What a wonderful place! Spotless, lovely and what a beautiful view. Kitchen is well stocked, plenty of towels, cozy comfortable bed and simply a pleasant place to spend time. Vanessa was lovely, and was quick to answer any questions I had. I look forward to coming back. This is a wonderful place stay!
Lovely waterfront cottage, well located, private access to the beach. We loved the privacy of the place. We'll definitely come back.
Very relaxing, welcoming, and enjoyable. The property delivered everything as promised. We will be back. Happy to recommend (but not too widely as we don't want to find we can't book it for ourselves!) Can't remember if description mentioned steep and challenging path down to beach (which wasn't a problem for us, but could easily be impassible for anyone with reduced mobility).
South facing from Gower Point to the Popham, Pasley and Worlcombe Islands.
