We love the Central Coast, a special place we call Paradise. In 2003 we bought a hilltop property in upper Carmel Valley and now enjoy magnificent mountain views and serenity. We are always inspired by the natural surroundings of the beautiful Santa Lucia Mountains. We enjoy entertaining with our friends, family and grandchildren. From every visitor's perspective, our little corner of the world beckons vacationers to return again and again.
Karen Hoffman purchased this chateau / country house in 2003
We fell in love with Cachagua (Upper Carmel Valley), which reminds us of Tuscany. We love the quiet solitude and 360 degree mountain views from our hilltop vineyard. For city people who want sun and country, this is the place!
Mountain views forever, quiet, private and peaceful. A wonderful retreat!
We spent New Years here and it was more than we could have imagined. Sunsets in the hot tub, 360 degree views, tons of space inside and out, cozy fires at night and a great kitchen to cook beautiful meals! We went horse back riding with Susan just down the road on a great trail. There is an incredible restaurant open on Monday nights only just down the street at the General Store, what a magical place. This trip was dreamy and we're so thankful to stay in such a great spot.
We spent 4 nights here after the Christmas holiday with our extended family and pups. The weather was spectacular. Karen, the owner, was welcoming and the house is both charming and beautifully decorated. There was plenty of firewood for the fireplace, and panoramic views of the Carmel Valley. There were hummingbirds, woodpeckers and finches - with feeders spread around the property, and seating areas to take in the sun and the vineyard views. The hot tub was perfect for ending the day, followed by a gourmet dinner from the well equipped kitchen, KT Vineyards wine, a warm fire and a movie. All of our guests found the beds to be very comfortable, and the quality of the accommodation to be excellent. The driveway and the setting brought back memories of Panzano in Chianti... and brunch and dinner at the nearby Cachaugua General Store offers truly Western hospitality and a dining experience not to be missed! We loved every minute we spent on the property... and we highly recommend it as a retreat and destination in the Carmel Valley.
We wanted a quiet, romantic, out of the way retreat with out of this world views for our 30th anniversary, and that is exactly what we got here. Take groceries with you because you may not want to leave. We spent 1 week here and left only once to replenish supplies. (Not a quick trip away- the route to Carmel Village is about 20-30 minutes and on a winding road) We had two small dogs with us and they enjoyed this property too. Birds and hummingbirds of all kinds started and ended our days with lots of pool time in between. The 360 degree views are beautiful & varied, and although the property is not flat you can do some walking. Neighbors are barely seen and very rarely heard - it was our private retreat. There is a very nice bocce court and horse shoe pit located steps away from the house. The house interior is more than adequate and comfortable. We relaxed by the fire pit and watched stars every night. It was a perfect anniversary!
Cons: gnats were a little bothersome at times (a portable fan helped us), we did some of our own landscape patio/deck clean up each day (we did not mind this), number and location of bathrooms might not work for larger groups, check your cell service provider because service is limited
Pros: Quiet & peaceful, breathtaking views, romantic. Karen was accessible and helpful and offered any assistance we might want. Kids who need constant stimulation could get bored, but others would find the bocce, horseshoes, pool and TV enough
The bottom line: This property fulfilled our expectations nicely and we had a wonderful week. We wanted to respect the property and the owner's efforts and leave it as we found it. All the pros definitely outweigh any cons in our opinion. We had a great time!
Spent 4 nights in paradise! The pictures do not do justice to the 360 degree views from the house - morning coffee with sunrise and hummingbirds to sunset with campfire and marshmellows!!! We had every amenity we needed in the house. Comfortable bedrooms, overstocked kitchen with all the supplies you needed to cook a beautiful meal to enjoy outside on the patio watching the sunset. It was almost a shame to have booked excursions into Monterey and Carmel as our children did not want to leave the villa. They enjoyed their afternoon swim / hot tub, tether ball practice and first attempts at bocce ball and horseshoes. Karen was a pleasure to deal with during the booking process. No issues with arranging details or questions we had regarding the property. The only word of warning to would be renters is GPS is useful to find property and the 10 mile drive in from Carmel Village is a winding (but worthwhile) road....
This is a fabulous house and the grounds are gorgeous. It's exactly as shown in the pictures. Had lots of space, hummingbirds are everywhere and the beds were comfortable. Bathrooms are small and you have to go thru one bedroom to get to the shower. I wouldn't put any late sleepers in that room or your down to only one bathroom. Buy your groceries before you leave town. It's a long way back to get anything you forgot. This is a great house but the view and gardens steal the show. We enjoyed our stay and I highly recommend this vacation rental.
Our family of seven stayed for 4 nights. Karen greeted us at a Carmel grocery store and led the 23 mile scenic drive to the beautiful home. The house itself is wonderful, but for us, it was the outdoor space that we will remember most. The pool, fire pit, hummingbird feeders, the bocce and horseshoe pits accented the amazing views. We ate every meal outside to enjoy the weather and the setting. And it is easy to have day trips to Carmel, Point Lobos State Park, Monterey, and Big Sur. We would definitely recommend.
You are in the country, hiking trails, horseback riding, biking, wine tastings, swimming. Personal chef available. Buy your groceries before traveling to our VRBO
