Thollon les Memises Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Modern ground floor studio 27m2; en suite shower room, kitchen

On the ground floor of our chalet we have created this modern, comfortable and quite unique, self contained studio -100 metres from the telecabine and with outstanding panoramic views over Lake Geneva. The studio comprises a tastefully furnished main living area; a fully equipped modern kitchen area and an en suite shower room/w/c.There is a large (and very comfortable-according to our guests!) double bed settee providing sleeping for two as well as being a relaxing daytime sofa. There's also a full single size banquette ideally suitable for a child or young adult. A child's cot is also available. Electric radiators and a 'log burner' effect electric fire heat this cosy studio. There's a flat screen TV, (UK and French TV),DVD/ CD and video (bring your own or borrow ours). Wi - Fi available. There's also access to the ski/boot store which adjoins the studio.. A perfect studio for 2/3 people wishing to enjoy a winter or summer break - and just short walk to our local restaurants, supermarket, boulangarie etc.

Thollon in summer and winter: Thollon and the Lake Geneva area have a great deal to offer - both winter and summer. . The villlage itself sits on the 'Balcony' Lac Leman' and is surrounded by wonderful alpine scenery - the perfect combination of mountains and lake. (In winter there can be few other resorts where you can ski or board to your heart's content whilst,at the same time, having the most magnificent views over the largest inland lake in Europe!)

The studio is in a quiet location yet very close to the village centre and just 100 metres from the telecabine which takes you directly up to the top of the Pic Des Memises and the ski slopes.

Throughout the winter and summer holiday periods, the village reflects the mood of the season with lots of possibilities available - a lively winter sports resort with several ' apres ski' bars and restaurants and numerous festive activities and events. In summer possibilities include woodland and wonderful alpine meadow walks, tennis, petangue, mountain biking, and paragliding.

Things to do in the local area: There are lots of possibilities all year round. In winter Thollon is the ideal base for the adventurous skier wishing to visit nearby resorts in Switzerland and the Portes du Soleil.

In summer the options are many and varied:- Swimming - close to the village at Plage de la Beunaz (a natural lake with slides and arial runway); the Olympic pool and lidos in Evian and Thonon and the Aquapark at Bouveret; and the Lac Leman with numerous safe and free swimming options including the shallow sandy beach at nearby Exenevex. Evian and Thonon are famous for their spas and Lavey Les Bains with its outdoor heated spa pool is a 'must'.

Then there's sailing, motor boat hire, water skiing and wind surfing on the lake; white water rafting and canoeing on the Dranse; horse riding, tennis, climbing, fishing and golf. And for the really adventutous - the 'Fantistiquecable' mountain to mountain ariel runway! - all within a short drive.

Or perhaps a less energetic trip on one of the Lake Steamers?

Places to visit and other attractions : Lakeside towns and villages - by boat or by car. Evian with it's beautiful esplanade, Casino, gardens art galleries and museums; Thonon with it's pretty port and lakeside restaurants; nearby Yvoire and its neighbour Nernier - wonderful floral medieval fortified villages on the edge of the lake; the bustling Olympic sporting and cultural centre of Lausanne or the world renowned Montreux with its music festivals and Freddie Mercury connections. The Chateaus at Ripaille ( guided tours of the vinyard) and historic Chillon are well worth visiting.

Visit the high alps by cablecar and enjoy the restaurants, spectacular views across snow capped mountains and that special mountain 'stillness' - oh, and the occasional cow bell! The 'goat village' at Linderet -an experience for old and young alike perhaps followed by romantic evening meal at the Bout de Lac as the sun sets on Lake Montriond.Perhaps a trip across the glacier on the Hellbrunner gondola at Chamonix? - an unforgetable experience!

We'd love to help you discover more!

About Ron or Eileen Goldie

Eileen and I are Scottish. We purchased our chalet in 2006 and moved out to Thollon permanently when we retired in 2009. Eileen is a qualified nursery school teacher but most recently worked in a college in the UK supporting special needs students.Prior to retirement I worked in HR..

Why Ron or Eileen Goldie chose Thollon les Memises

We had been on holiday in the area for many years so when we were looking to buy a chalet in the Alps Thollon was an obvious choice! We are so close to Lake Geneva that it is a perfect place to be in the summer! Lots of lake and mountain activities and just a smashing place to relax during those - hopefully (and so far they have been!) long hot Alpine summers. In winter we are just a very short walk (100 meters) from the telecabine which gives us access to our beautiful little family ski area at the top of the Memises mountain. And if we want to ski 'further afield' we are so close to the likes of the Port Du Soleil resorts of Chatel, Avoriaz, Morzine and Les Gets. We also ski regularly in the Swiss resorts of Villars, Les Diablerets and Verbier - all within one hour's drive from the chalet. So we find it's a perfect place both summer and winter!

What makes this apartment unique

Rather than try to accommodate the usual 6/7 people in a studio of this size, we decided to furnish it for just two or perhaps, at the most, three visitors We feel it is ideal for a couple or for a couple with a young or teenage child. The view from the studio is spectacular right across the lake to Lausanne - it was this beautiful view that 'sold' the chalet to us when we first saw it.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thankyou both for everything. The studio is really comfortable and had everything you could possibly need. The bed was really comfortable too.You have all been very friendly and helpful especially Ron for all the local information and for driving us around and Gemma for the great ski tour around Morzine and Avoriaz. The snow conditions in Thollon never seem to disappoint. We had some yummy meals out and have gone home a few pounds heavier! Thankyou for the fondue recipe and for making us feel so at home. We hope to return.

The studio met all expectations

  • 5 of 5

The studio is very cleverly designed to be spacious and comfortable. There is even a large built-in wardrobe, so lots of storage. I cannot think of anything it lacks - the sofa bed is very comfortable and we left it opened so-to-speak during in our stay and still had loads of room. The fire heats up instantly so only needed to be on for a short time. The bathroom was small but spotlessly clean, well-equipped and had an excellent mini hair dryer.

Ron and Eileen were great hosts, very welcoming and helpful but not intrusive. We didn't have the best of weather while we were there but really enjoyed Lavey Les Bains under the rain. Ron also recommended Nernier which we loved - as pretty as Yvoire without the commercialisation. We can also highly recommend the restaurant Le XV in Thollon for a great meal.

All in all a great short stay and to be recommended.

PS A pat for Rosie the labrador and also thank you for the wine.

Owner's Response: Eileen and I really appreciate you taking the time and trouble to write this review! We certainly agree - Lavey Les Bains is wonderful (even in the rain) and Le XV has to be one of the best places to eat in the area ( and it's right here in Thollon!) Glad you liked the studio and that it was all that you anticipated it would be. If you are ever "Thollon way" in the future it would be good to see you again. Best wishes Ron & Eileen .

very enjoyable stay

5 Star Studio with superb views over Lake Geneva

  • 5 of 5

We arrived late in the evening to be greeted by Ron, who ran through everything in the Studio and left us with milk in the fridge, tea, coffee and a nice cold bottle of wine and chocolates on the table ...... Perfect!

The Studio came complete with everything you would need, clean towels, bed linen, shampoo's etc. We followed up on their recommendation on trying the new Restaurant in town "Le XV" and can highly recommend it and we will definitely be back soon to stay in this excellent accommodation!

Great studio near Geneva

  • 5 of 5

Wonderfully presented and well maintained studio with everything you need. Well equipped kitchen area and really comfortable, easy to use, double sofa bed, great ensuite facility with more than enough towels supplied for our stay.

The views from the apartment are outstanding. There's ample area outside to either sit and eat or just enjoy the breathtaking scenery. Our hosts, Ron and Eileen were superb. They provided up to date tourist information and guides for us on arrival and were happy to share their knowledge and advice on what to see and do in the local area and further afield - Ron provided additional directions and maps that we'd have been lost without. Definitely would recommend hiring a car for site seeing but if skiing the ski lift is only a few minutes walk.

Visited Lavey le Bains, Switzerland travelling through the mountains stopping in Chatel for a coffee. Yvoire is a must, quaint medieval village with a glass/crystal shop not to be missed amongst other arts/crafts/novelty shops. Evian and Thonon have great promenades and ports.

Would definitely recommend a visit - we're going back soon

Owner's Response: Dear Louise, Your comments are very much appreciated. It's always good to know that our guests have had such a great time and that you really liked the studio and also the breathtaking views over Lake Geneva and the local mountains. Lavey Les Bains and Yvoirre are, as you say, amazing and well worth visiting. Next time, if you do decide to ski, you'll find that there's a brand new telecabine opening for 2013/14 season. It's just a short 100 meter walk from the studio - so, as you know, definitely no need to take the car out or have to make a long long walk to the slopes every time you want to ski! Skiing from La Petite Fleur D'Ecosse and access to the lovely slopes above the village is right on your doorstep. We'd love to see you back again! Ron and Eileen

Our Christmas stay at La Petite Fleur D'Ecosse

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and I stayed at La Petite Fleur D'Ecosse over the Christmas of 2012. We really enjoyed staying in this cosy apartment. Ron and Eileen were very welcoing and friendly to us, and gave us advise and support throughout our stay. The apartment was extremely well equipped, especially the kitchen. It has a magnificent view of lake Geneva, which was especially pretty at night watching the lights glitter fro the towns around the lake. Ron picked us up at the airport, and we stopped at the ski shop on the way back (10% discount for staying at La Petite Fleur D'Ecosse) to collect our skies, so we were ready to go skiing on our first mrning there. We were extremely close to the ski station (2 mins walk), which made our skiing debut almst hassle free. The view of Lake Geneva fro the top was amazing, as was the view of the Alps fro the summit. My boyfriend snowboarded in other larger ski locations previously, and it is his view that this mre family orientated station is ideal for beginner skiers such as us. The lift passes are cheaper, and the biggest difference was that there was less queues for the drag lifts, and chairlifts, and beginners and advanced skiers and snowboarders used the mntain with ease and with little waiting around. Apres ski drinks were hassle free, as we dropped back our skis to the apartment on the way to the pubs in the village. We really valued the proximity of the apartment to the ski station, and to the village. Thollon itself is a beautiful place to take a walk at night, and we dined in lovely restaurants, all only a small walk away. One night we got the 17:.45 bus to Evian (4 euro each one way). It is the big town nearby, and we enjoyed walking the streets and drinking in its bars. It also has what is said to be Europe’s largest themed casino! We dined in one of the restaurants on the coplex, and gambled a euro or two in the casino, before getting a return taxi back to Thollon (45 euro). Our stay at La Petite Fleur D'Ecosse was just what we needed and was an extremely relaxing end to the year for us. We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning to stay again to brush up on our skiing, buy superb cheese fro the froagerie, and to relax and mong out at La Petite Fleur D'Ecosse. thank you Ron

My son and I stayed at the studio in Jan 12 and went back again in April 2012. Ron and Eileen were very kind and helpful. The Studio is spotlessly clean and warm, what else do you need? It is small but perfect for two, the view from the front is breathtaking.

Ron will point you in the right direction for ski hire and much more if you ask.

The Studio is only a few minutes walk away from the gondola up to the ski area. The ski area is modest but very special. I doubt if there is a better view in the Alps than from the top of Thollon looking out across the lake below, those who have been to this little resort will agree.

Bernex is only 20 mins away ( 10 if you re french) , Les Gets , Avoriaz , easily reached and Verbier not much further. Thanks Ron and Eileen.

Thollon sits above Evian on the 'balcony,'of Lake Leman at the base of the magnificant Pic des Memises. With superb panoramic views over Evian and the lake to Lausanne and the Swiss Jura mountains, Thollon is the perfect location for a winter skiing/activity holiday - 50 kilometres of beginner and intermediate slopes with fabulous views over the lake with easy access to the whole of the Port du Soleil ( Chatel, Morzine, Avoriaz and Les Gets) as well as Chamonix and a number of other Swiss resorts, eg Villars, Gstaad and Glacier 3000. For those not wanting to ski, by hiring snow shoes you can still enjoy Thollon's fabulous lake and mountain views.

In summer there are lovely alpine walks, sailing, water skiing, swimming, riding and golf (including Royal Evian, Les Gets, Avoriaz and Chatel). Montreux, Annecy, Yvoire, Evian, Geneva, Chillon Castle and Gruyeres are all within a short drive.

Winter or summer, the thermal pools at Lavey Les Bains are a 'must' - magic at night in the snow

Other Activities: Canoeing, canyoning, rafting, parapenting, jacuzzi spa, alpine cable 'gliding, mountain biking

Ski: 'The Snowpark at Thollon is ace!' That's according to young snowboarders from the local area as well as visitors who have discovered Thollon's authentic snowpark. New in 2011, it comprises a 20m wide table with jumps of 5, 10 & 17 m in length; a series of modules with Wall Ride & Eboy (a 1.5 metre boy to bounce off); and a junior park with a series of rails & boxes for all levels. There's also a 5m high half pipe and a boardercross. It's the only park of its type to be found in the area.

For the winter of 2013 a new 4 seat chair lift was installed providing speedier access to the top of the ski area. And, for the 2014 season, the old four man telecabine has been replaced by a completely new 10 place cabine.

Thollon appeals to families and to experienced skiers alike. Smaller than, although close to, some of the larger resorts in the Port du Soliel, Thollon has invested heavily in snow cannon, which compliment this north facing resort's excellent and reliable snow record.

Thollon is really quite unique - particularly as a skiing resort and as a base for a summer holiday. It combines all the advantages of a winter ski resort but with the proximity of one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in Europe. From a weather point of view, the climate can be quite special. As one of the locals said to us, ' the lake is very kind to us'. Since we came to Thollon we have had wonderful summers allowing us to spend lots of time at the numerous lake side beaches and swimming 'plages'. The sunsets over the lake can be quite stunning and, in winter, the largely north facing slopes tend to retain the snow allowing for skiing when the 'season' at some other resorts may be over. By most, Thollon is still a largely undiscovered 'gem' - those who have found it tend to return year after year!. Our studio is extremely comfortable (as our guests have confirmed) and we will do all that we can to help make your stay with us as enjoyable as possible
