Mosaic Sunset (Cruz Views #3) is a two bedroom, 1 bath, hillside condo in the 10-unit condominium resort called Cruz Views, which is located about 160 feet up on the hill behind Cruz Bay. The views from Mosaic Sunset are fantastic, much better than the photos here show. The views looks south and southwest and include Cruz Bay, Pillsbury Sound, and the St. James Islands, St. Thomas, stunning sunsets and sparkling lights of distant islands at night. From Cruz Views it's an easy 1/2 mile walk into Cruz Bay (downhill) but the walk back to Cruz Views is slightly more challenging, especially if you have dined at one of St John’s many restaurants and then stopped for a drink or two at Woodys or one of the local beach bars, but everyone finds their way back up the hill.
There are two rows of condo units at Cruz Views, four units are located above the pool and six units are below the pool, three on either side. Mosaic Sunset is located on the upper level, directly behind the pool with one of the finest views in Cruz Views and Cruz Bay.
From the pool deck you climb a set of stairs to the first level of Mosaic Sunset, where the covered deck, living, dining and kitchen areas are located. A half flight of stairs takes you to the master bedroom and gorgeous bath, and a ships ladder takes you another half flight to the loft bedroom. The porch deck seats 4 persons and includes 2 very relaxing rocking chairs, and the living area also seats four in comfort. There are two very efficient a/c units in Mosaic Sunset that quietly provide comfortable air conditioning throughout the entire unit. The living area has a flat screen cable TV/DVD and stereo/CD, wireless internet and an iPod dock, and there is also a TV/DVD in each bedroom. The remodeled kitchen is equipped with a 4-burner stove plus oven, refrigerator freezer, microwave, sink, coffee maker, blender, cookware, dinnerware and silverware, and the dining table seats four. There is a queen bed in the master bedroom and two twin beds in the loft bedroom. The bath was recently completely remodeled and is now a bath and shower that every woman will adore.
We have been Cruz View’s owners for more then 20 years, primarily because we really love this island, this place called Cruz Views, and especially our home, Mosaic Sunset, which we have named after the scores of gorgeous sunsets we have seen from our rocking chairs, with a cold drink in our hands and a warm feeling in our hearts. The shower actually contains a mosaic that was somewhat modeled on one of those beautiful end-of day sunsets. We’re a husband and wife team who are both fully engaged medical professionals, which means we often work 60-hour weeks, and we’re always making decisions that affect other people’s health and wellness. We chose these careers and it was the right choice, but practicing medicine is quite exhausting, and there comes a time when we BADLY need to return to St. John. Here on our island we get immersed in a different world, and it’s so indescribably wonderful, so relaxing and laid back. We love coming back to our island home, year after year, and we spend a lot of time and effort trying to make our home very welcoming, warm and attractive, for our guests and for us. We wanted to create something we look forward to returning to when our stress meters go off the charts, something memorable and special - an affordable yet thoroughly enjoyable island escape. We think we have created one of the best values on the island, but you can be the judge of that.
We wanted to be within walking distance of Cruz Bay, which is a little Caribbean village that is just so ultra charming and enjoyable. Cruz Bay is crammed with great restaurants, everything from high-end gourmet to local take-outs, plus beachside bars, boutiques filled with great art, clothing, and curios, three grocery stores and all kinds of other neat stuff. It’s always entertaining to go into town, and we do it often. But we didn’t want to actually live in town because we want a hillside view that sweeps from here to St. Somewhere, a good-sized pool and a place with more peace and quiet than Cruz Bay. Cruz Views was just that spot, close to town, but not in town, excellent views to the south and west, south facing with lots of glorious sunshine and small and cozy. We have been an owner here for 20+ years for two essential reasons – it’s the best, and we love it. Come visit Mosaic Sunset and you’ll see why we return year after year.
With one exception, all the two bedroom units at Cruz Views have the same floor plan, but when you step inside, they’re all different. We’ve really worked to give our island home a cozy, warm and romantic interior. We paid particular attention to the bath and shower, which has been completely upgraded and modernized. The loft bedroom also has been totally renovated, including the addition of air conditioning and new beds, and the kitchen has been remodeled, including new tile and appliances. Our favorite place remains the porch deck, and if you think rocking chairs are just for old rockers, think again. When you sit in one of these chairs at 6:00 PM and watch the sunset unfold with your favorite person, music and drink nearby, you’ll know why we often dream about returning to our cozy little home on this fascinating island, especially when the cold winds howl on those long winter nights in Michigan.
