My boyfriend and I booked the last BEAUTIFUL weekend in September at Rod's place and are still talking about the great time we had (2) months later.. Sorry this is so late, Rod. Better late than never! Both Rod AND socks were very welcoming on our arrival. Rod met us outside, gave us a short tour and showed us all that the cottage had to offer. We spent the day using the canoe to fish and finished up the evening with food off the grill and a campfire at sunset. The location is great, the view from EVERY angle is gorgeous, the cottage itself was clean/tidy and had everything you would need. At end of our stay we both joked about being able to live in the small studio space forever with the view/sound of lake.. never having to come back to reality.. and work. We are SO excited to return next year.. hopefully for a longer stay, during warmer months but I can't say enough about this place.
What a great time! The weather could not have been more perfect and Rod was so kind. We arrived a bit later than we expected but just in time to see the sunset. Rod gave us a tour of the place and it was perfect! We had brought our own food and found everything we needed in the kitchen. The next morning, we woke up early in time to watch the fog roll over the lake. After exploring a little, we decided to take out the kayaks. What a beautiful lake! Beautiful sunsets, wonderful accommodations, and a fantastic owner!
This place is lovely! The view can't be beat, and the place is really clean with everything you need. We went for a weekend of touring the wineries. The area is really beautiful, and the cabin is fairly close to everything you might want to see. Rod wasn't able to be there when we arrived, but we were able to let ourselves in and get comfortable. He is very welcoming and helpful, but also allows for your privacy. I would definitely stay there again but am reluctant to tell my friends about it because it is a wonderful secret I want to keep all to myself. Also, if you are looking for a place to eat, there is a farmhouse restaurant that is about a mile away where the food is cooked to order and locally sourced. It was quite a dining experience! I just can't remember the name. Skaneateles is nearby and a really nice town, and Toro Run winery is beautiful, on the smaller side, and less commercialized than the others.
My boyfriend and I had an amazing time here! The apartment is just as described and pictured but better, the view of Owasco Lake is incredible! Comfortable bed, spacious bathroom, shower head with lots of water pressure, very functional kitchen.
Head down the stairs to the lake and find kayaks, a canoe and rowboat for your use. Rodney the host is very accommodating- so is his dog Sox. Make sure you ask Sox to go kayaking with you! The dock is great and has comfortable chairs to get some sun, or watch the sun set.
A short drive away is the cute town of Skaneateles. Great food, great views and shopping.
We only stayed one night but wish we had stayed longer! We highly recommend this place to others, you will make some great memories and make all your facebook friends jealous!
We loved this property because the view is amazing! The suite was clean and well equipped. Rod was very helpful but also respected our privacy. He made us feel at home. We would love to visit again!
This is a really wonderful spot for two people looking for a lake side rental. Rodney's place is much better than the photos posted. We booked it because it seemed like a great value for it's proximity to the lake, but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived. The apartment is fresh, new and very clean. The barn wood he used on the walls were from the original cabin/barn that his grandparents used to stay in when he was a boy and he did a great job putting it all together. It has a kitchen with full appliances, a queen sized bed and a full bath. It also has a large tv with direct tv, which was great for us as we were headed to the US Open in NY after we left and wanted to keep up with the matches.
As to the steps to the dock - yes, if you want to go all the way to the water, you have to be able to climb quite a few steep stairs, but it's totally worth it. We spend hours just sitting reading and drinking wine at the end of the dock. He has also recently completed a deck and boat house (not in the photos) at the bottom of the stairs (the deck is elevated above the boat house). The deck has a full 6 person outdoor dining table where we ate our dinner ever night. We cooked on the grill and stove. Just stunning! That said, if you can't manage the stairs to the dock, the view is also beautiful from the house (although there is a short flight of stairs to the upstairs of the house).
The cabin is located between Auburn and Ithica (20 minutes to Auburn, 40 to Ithica). Auburn has a nice Wegman's (grocery store) where we stocked up for the two nights of our stay. We were on an 11 day road trip and this was the only place where we ate all of our meals at home. We really didn't want to leave.
There's lots to do in the area, (with a beautiful hike with loads of waterfalls at Fillmore State Park just 15 minutes away) but it's also nice to just hang out at Rodney's place. He's around and friendly in the evening if you need him, but he also leaves you completely to yourself if you don't. Socks, the white lab is the same!
We can't recommend this enough as a getaway for two! You won't be disappointed!
