Saluda Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 bedrooms main house (1King/2queens) 2 lucky twin sleepers over boathouse

Welcome:

If you want a cross between my lovely grandmothers' “Sweet Briar” full silver service, breakfast, lunch and dinner charm and sensibility with myself, the artist, (Undergraduate and Master’s; will not say which Universities to lose guests due to college loyalties....Ha) who loves to create, design, and cook, you have found the correct Mountain/Lake Summit home. This is one of the first 4 original houses built here at Lake Summit and the first arrivals here get the best view... You and your family/guests will feel its original charm, beauty, and tranquil spirit the minute you walk through and to the front porch which overlooks the lake. You will instantly shed all of the tension, stress, and ill will that you brought with you and will properly start your vacation *(if not, pour a glass of wine, or a higher octane in extreme cases). When you come back into the house you will find a very warm atmosphere with knotty pine, art covered walls, beamed ceilings, comfortable furniture (antiques and contemporary), heart pine floors with traveled rugs, and a working original rock fireplace. Most of the walls are covered by my art (see pictures), art buddies, and local or international talent collected through my life’s journeys.

The house, though originally built in 1920 on this beautiful lake (dammed in 1919), has had all of the proper modernization's to the home without losing the feel of the original house (not sure if grandma would totally approve of the secluded but lake view hot tub, or the downstairs large double head shower, but she always insisted everybody should have fun. She also would not understand the WIFI).

The house has three in-home bedrooms, the Master on the main level with a king-size bed and the two other bedrooms are located on the lower level with very comfy queens (one bed is named the “Marshmallow” because no one wants to get out of it).

I also feature a fourth bedroom which is 15 feet over the water, located on the second story of the Boathouse. This room contains two twin beds, an awesome wake up view, air conditioning and/or fan if needed, and is the perfect hideout for any family’s teenage or older children, or those wanting a little more privacy ***(located down the hill from the house and over water, not appropriate for children who need attending...period). It also works as a great reading/napping room overlooking the lake and the upper deck herb garden. This is also a great place for a Massage! Yes there is a folding massage table provided under front twin bed. Call ahead of time to set up an appointment for a professional Masseus during your stay.

*(The boathouse is not equipped with a bathroom).

The Main house is complete with two full bathrooms, a fully-equipped gourmet kitchen, gas stove and proper cooking gear (and grab some herbs from the herb garden!!), an exquisite, often-used fireplace in the main room that’s sure to provide the perfect evening setting. Central air/heat, with ceiling fans as well, everywhere. There are two large French farm tables which can hold 10 guests each, one inside and one on the awesome front porch (read above). This house is sure to provide the space and accommodations for any size or type of family or group of friends, cozy enough for as few as two, or spacious enough for as many as eight.

Fully equipped with all the latest in technology, the house includes multiple televisions (which can be left off), fast-speed wireless internet, as well as a surround-sound system that encompasses both the inside and outside settings. The televisions maintain full Premier DIRECTV package w/ two receivers. Yes guys, you can get the game, almost any game, welcome to your vacation as well. The stereo system has surround sound for the movie viewing screen and also goes through the main floor of the house, kitchen, porch, and cooking/hot tub deck. There is a PlayStation at the main TV for gaming or streaming videos.

Perhaps the most stunning and noteworthy feature of the house, aside from its inner beauty, is its multiple locations for outdoor enjoyment. Standing on the edge of the lake, there are three different outdoor areas for entertainment at any time of the day or night. Not only does the lower level bedrooms of the main house have a separate beautiful deck that overlooks the lake, but the boathouse also has a patio deck on its upper level. Again, surrounded by the smells of the herb garden, this is a perfect place for wine, cheese and appetizers. It has nice seating for any afternoon or evening (off of the boathouse bedroom, this deck is also fun to jump off of into the lake).

However, arguably the most enchanting and magnetic place on the entire property is the spanning front porch on the main level of the house. This wooden deck with natural mountain laurel rails and party lighting (electrical, candle lit, or combination) provide the ideal view of the lake at the perfect altitude to see on for what seems to be forever. The Western facing porch allows for the most perfect point of view for every sunset that one could ever ask for. Cameras will get a workout from this perspective, I promise. The deck contains one of the French farm dining tables (breakfast, lunch and dinner lake views) with several candle opportunities. The other half of the porch has a seating area, a large porch swing, it opens to the hot tub deck and brick courtyard with two proper grills (one gas and one charcoal), all allowing for unforgettable nights.

The boathouse and dock has two Kayaks for your use, many floatables, a full-size refrigerator, an ice cream maker, blender, fresh water sink and a hot dog steamer. There can be arrangements made for getting your boat lake permitted and docking your boat as well (it does take several days to get a lake permit so this has to be done way ahead of time before your arrival).

It is a great lake to Canoe, Kayak or Paddle Board Of course, just floating and swimming off the dock is awesome too.

I hope to see you soon, and that the house I’ve built my life around becomes as memorable for you as it is endearing for me.

An absolute jewel overlooking Lake Summit

  • 5 of 5
My husband, 9 year old twin daughters and I had the privilege of staying at Camp Billy over Fall Break. The house is beautiful, the kitchen well-stocked, the beds are so comfortable, the bathrooms large and well-appointed and the view is phenomenal. One of my favorite things was when we had some Lake Summit friends stop over for dinner. The table on the covered porch overlooking the woods and lake was magical. Lots of candles, beautiful tableware, festive colored lights and great food made for a very elegant evening. I loved getting to know the owner via emails and phone calls. The booking process was so easy and our damage deposit was returned expeditiously. I would love to return here!

Billy is great!

  • 5 of 5
I had inquired about this lake house for my 40th bday because of it's location a vibe. Due to "surprise" guests that were coming in, we needed to find a larger place to accommodate more friends that I didn't know were coming. Billy went above and beyond to answer any and all questions in detail. The next time we plan for a getaway..We definitely will be staying here.

Owner's Response: Angie, Thank you for your kind words. I hope you have a fantastic 40th. I am going to hold you and Tommy (and friends) to show up on my front porch for your 40th and a half birthday celebration next spring. Guitars in hand to serenade the lake. That porch loves my musician friends, and my musician friends love that front porch.....laugh.

Absolutely wonderful

  • 5 of 5
I don't even want to write this review because I want to keep this gem to myself! Billy is very helpful and generous wig his home. The lake house is rustic and charming but clean and full of modern conveniences. The beds and linens were soft and comfy. There was nothing we needed as the home is so well equipped. The home has a beautiful view of the lake and yet set up into the treetops which affords cool days in the summer. The entire home is so welcoming from the second you enter. If that wasn't enough, there is a great boathouse with a rooftop deck, two kayaks, a small grassy yard with a table and chairs and an "underwater beach". My kids loved jumping off the top of the boathouse. I just can't say enough about this property! On top of all this it's dog friendly and our fur babies enjoyed the home and the lake so much! You can't go wrong her-absolute paradise! We plan on making this a regular vacation:))

Greatest family vacation ever!

  • 5 of 5
My wife has a very hectic schedule and amazingly had 8 days off in the middle of August. She was insistent on going on a vacation. I was the planner and came across the picture of the porch. I showed it to my wife and she said, "let's pack". The only time it seemed like she left the porch was to watch our 4 kids swim or to go to bed. Our kids (2 are 9; 2 are 7) couldn't get enough of the boat house and the lake. We started every morning taking a plunge at 7a, rain or shine, and only came up for meals. We only left the house to get groceries(only about 5 min away in town) and to get some BBQ in town. The house is incredible. Tons of old charm with modern amenities. Watching the flying squirrels was a great way to cap the night too! It was one of the most relaxing vacations we've been on for a very long time and it was worth the 16 hr drive from Green Bay, WI. My kids were hounding us about returning the day after we returned. Just a terrific house on a terrific lake. Can't wait to return.

Perfect Place to Unwind

  • 5 of 5
Took family up as a stopping point to go to Clemson football game and enjoy Labor Day on the Lake. Such a tranquil setting and fun place, we almost did not want to go to the game. Really got to enjoy the lake and home on Sunday and early Monday. The descriptions and photos are very accurate and the home is plain and simply very comfortable and enjoyable. I would highly recommend. Lake Summit is a beautiful backdrop!

Escape from the beach

  • 5 of 5
When the temps hit 100 on the coast, I was fortunate enough to be invited up to "Camp Billy"- a delightful escape filled with outstanding art, character and personality. Spent most of my time on the over-sized porch unwinding, spending time with my Cardigan Corgis. Wish I had gotten in the jacuzzi- but took a swim in the lake( 1st time I've been swimming in 15 years and I live at Edisto Beach!) The boat house and dock provide perfect setting for chilling. Weather was grand- I hated to come home. Thanks for your hospitality
