Born, raised, and educated in Costa Rica. I love my country and I know you will too. Traveled the world and there is no place like Costa Rica. Come stay and enjoy our people, customs, and cuisine.
I adore the sit around the large terraces and guard the amazing sunsets in the property– I practically live on it! You can contemplate at the mountains; watch the stars illuminating the dark sky. There is something about the Eco Luxury home that makes me relax. You can’t be there and not relax. I feel rooted and grounded there, closer to nature and at peace spiritually. I enjoy picking the fruits from the large variety of trees and when is the season, I admire the mangos and its beautiful colors decorating the property and attracting all kinds of wildlife.
There's a lot to do here to get back to nature!
Please email me if you have any questions or if you would like to know about our seasonal specials.
Siney Calvo purchased this house in 2013
I was tired of living in the city and dealing with traffic and people all the time. I just wanted to get away. I found this property in 2004 and I loved it. I built everything from the ground up and I know that you will enjoy your stay as much as I enjoy having you.
I have never been to any place like this property. We have the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen. The property is right outside the city of Jaco and I fell in love because I always felt safe and I didn't have to worry about neighbors, noise, or anyone bothering my family and guests.
Villas del Rey is comprised of several beautiful, private, individual villas with one- or two-bedroom and bathroom options. The property is loaded with various citrus fruits and nuts trees: oranges, limes, "sour limes", oranges, grapefruits, starfruits, cashews and almonds, guanabana, bananas and more! Jardinera Marina will give you an excellent tour of the property upon request and help you identify the various fruits. Be ready to pick and juice to your heart's and health's content, as all of the fruits and nuts on the property are available for guests' harvest (make sure you understand about harvesting cashew nuts before you try it - it's complicated - but the cashew "apple" is an interesting treat).
The property "clubhouse" has a lovely pool and very reliable wireless internet service. The property is well-gated and directly off Highway 34, which is a fairly new highway in excellent condition. There is a bit of highway noise, but the convenience of being on a major route with bus service and several restaurants and shops in walking distance of the property's gates compensates for this.
Be sure to visit nearby Carara Parque Nacional and also find your way to Playa Mantas, then walk over the hill to Playa Blanca - a gem that is only accessible by foot path to the locals.
All of the nearby restaurants we visited were great, but we recommend Antigua Hacienda, just to the left of the traffic circle at the junction of Highways 34 and 27, before you head to the right towards Orotina. It is a cooperative restaurant started in 2009 by seven local housewives who wanted to help support their families through the talent of their traditional cooking.
Villas del Rey property rental manager Siney Calvo is extremely helpful, and extremely patient, as I tried hers with my many questions and requests. I spent two wonderful weeks here and would be happy to provide more information.
If you're planning to visit in late March, be sure to check the dates of the annual Fruits Festival in nearby Orotina.
We traveled with another couple who are also retired and we stayed in the 2BR 2BA home.
It was exactly as advertised. Quality construction. Stainless steel appliances. Top quality sheets and towels. However for a 2BR house that sleeps 4 people, there were only seats for 3 around the TV in the living area - one small loveseat and one cushioned chair. We’d have to bring a dining room chair for one of us to sit on while watching DVD movies at night, because the satellite TV was not working while we were there and the Wi-Fi in the house was almost non-existent. In order to get a decent signal with any speed, we had to walk – or drive – to the clubhouse where the Wi-Fi actually worked. When that was at night, we had to take a flashlight, because there aren’t any lights around the clubhouse (and it’s closed and locked up tight) – although the driveway to the houses is well lighted.
Most of the previous reviewers talked about how much they were helped by Siney (and Garrett). Unfortunately, Siney was having a baby in the US when we arrived and we never got to meet her. John was as helpful as possible, but since he’d only been in Costa Rica for 3 months, he didn’t know anything about site seeing or what to do in the area! He did take us to Jaco to rent a car – which as one other reviewer said – is an absolute must. After that we were on our own!
The listing says “There are also 15 restaurants, 5 minimarts, 1 gas station, and a large variety of local farmers stands all within 1 mile of the property.” There were 2 or 3 restaurants within a mile and a couple of minimarts– not 15 and 5!
The listing says “Rural: Stay in a beautiful Eco-friendly home just outside the busy city of Jaco." If just outside is 45 minutes away, then the listing is correct. But 45 minutes is how long it takes to drive to Jaco.
We were somewhat disappointed in the location, the lack of any assistance with site seeing and the lack of Wi-Fi in the house. But on the upside, the price is about half what you will pay for a 2BR 2BA condo in Jaco or Los Suenos.
My family and I spent seven days at the Villas. First of all… the entire staff was professional, friendly and accommodating. They helped us with everything: airport transportation, suggesting and booking daily adventures like zip lining, volcano tours, waterfall repelling, places to shop, booking a car rental, getting terrific directions and restaurant recommendations. We took advantage of a personal guided tour of the property. The host also took us to the town of Orotina for the farmers market and proceeded to give us a personal fruit tasting. Where else could you go where somebody would do this for you? The man who took us was so informative. I was worried about communicating with the locals. I barely remember any of my high school Spanish so I was so grateful to the staff for helping me with key words and phrases so I could easily navigate through the small towns and beach communities. No matter how stupid or complicated our questions were, the staff was eager and happy to help. I would highly recommend Villas Del Ray. It’s perfect for the entire family. My blind sister had a wonderful tactile experience. She enjoyed the wonderful aroma of the fruit trees and beautiful flowers as well as an enjoyable swim in the beautiful pool each day and walking on the trails. It was like relaxing in paradise.
Spring Break in Costa Rica was awesome! A girlfriend and I shared a two room villa and loved it! The villa was gorgeous. It was big and roomy with a full kitchen. We really appreciated the kitchen so we had the option of eating out or making a meal and cocktail at the villa. There was internet so I could keep my friends back at home up to date with my daily adventures. The staff gave us great recommendations so I went zip lining and my friend and I went to Hermosa Beach. The mornings on the property were really nice. We put on our sneakers and walked the trails. The air smelled so good and sweet from all the fruit trees and flowers. It was warm and humid so the pool became a must and we always had it to ourselves. The staff at Villas Del Ray were very accommodating and nice to talk to. I had such a great time there, I’m going to see if I can get my entire family together to spend Christmas at the Villas. .
I just spent a week at Villas Del Ray and had the most wonderful relaxing time. The grounds areMother so beautiful. Each morning I awoke to the melodic songs of the birds. I then took a walk on one of the trails and picked my own fresh breakfast of mangos, bananas, star fruit and cashew nut fruit, delicious! (Who knew that a cashew nut grew on such a juicy, interesting textured fruit?) I relaxed in the beautifully decorated villa and took advantage of the free DVD rentals. I spent each sunset in the pool or enjoying drinks on the patio, lovely. It was truly a fantastic way to enjoy the beauty, delicacies and natural tranquility of Costa Rica. I will definitely be returning.
