Vail Estate Rental Photos and Description
7,400 Sq. ft Vail Estate on Free Vail Bus Line & Recreation Path with Mt Views.
The Bear and Eagle Lodge is a 7,400- square feet log & stone estate on 3 wooded acres in a secluded cul-de-sac with the famous East Vail waterfall up the path behind the house. It sleeps up to 20, with 2 to each bed: 2 doubles, 3 queens, 3 kings with 1 pull-out sofa bed and 1 queen aerobed. Deluxe Portacrib with infant changing station is also available if requested. There is plenty of parking in the large, heated driveway. We can also add a an enclosed garage for 1 car with direct access to the house and elevator.
You will be greeted to our home by a magnificent garden with a waterfall cascading to the front yard, and a monument-sized bear & Tom Sawyer sculpture by Colorado sculptor Walt Horton.
The home is located on the free Vail bus route, which means you can leave your car at home & avoid the hassle & expense of parking to go into the village or skiing. The estate is also on the Vail recreation path, which winds from our home along the Gore Creek all the way into Vail Village. Perfect for snow-shoers, cross country skiers, hikers, walkers, bikers and rafters. We also are at the hub of 7 different major hiking trails and in the center of one of the US’ greatest mountain biking areas. For your convenience, 1 block away is a food market.
Once in Vail, you will find this Alpine pedestrian village has heated cobblestone walkways, unique shops, 5 star dining, & activities for the whole family for every season. Not to mention the US’ largest alpine ski resort. All of this is just a 5 minute drive or free bus ride away. In the winter you don’t have to worry about shoveling snow, the steps, patios & driveway are all equipped with snow melt.
Inside the estate you will find fine art paintings & sculptures that accent real log walls, including the soaring ceilings of the great room and music room, with baby grand piano, custom made chandeliers & antique serving bar.
The great room comfortably seats 18 people at the same time for holiday gatherings with views of Gore Range and East Vail Chutes. A custom-made wooden inlaid game table for four, offering chess, checkers, Mandela, cribbage, and backgammon adds to the fun. Dozens of other games can be brought up from the well-stocked library one floor below.
Radiant heating in the wood & stone floors make this house comfortable and cozy. Huge windows open to cool breezes in the summer.
A heated, snow-melted dining deck (complete with dining table, chairs and café table and stools for entertaining as well as barbeque grill) opens from the dining and great room and faces the splendor of the National Forest that embraces the property.
The massive dining room, separated from the great room by a see-through gas stone fireplace, seats at least 16 at the antique European dining table. Pewter, crystal and Italian pewter-rimmed china can make dining a royal affair. For quiet reflection, another balcony beckons off the dining room and provides a breathtaking view of the ever-changing sky and Gore Mountain range.
On the other side of the dining room is the inviting family room with a large flat screen television (complete with game systems and DVD’s.) The family room’s emphasis is on super comfortable furniture, the grand stone wood burning fireplace and the views to the aspens. A powder room with hand-painted and gold-trimmed sink and toilet is located off the family room.
The elevator connects all three floors, and is located just next to the kitchen for easy grocery or catering delivery.
The kitchen has all high-end equipment, from Viking and sub-zero appliances to a large pantry and copper sinks and a cook’s faucet at the stove. The kitchen includes two ovens, plus a warming drawer, two dishwashers and built-in china cabinets full of the very best of china, serving pieces and cookware. Probably the chef’s favorite feature is a massive wooden island covered entirely in butcher block and complete with two drink drawers (so guests can stay out of your fridge and preparation area) and three different built-in garbage and recycling bins.
The kitchen is open to a charming hearth room for casual meals and morning coffee with wide, direct views of the Gore Mountains and the pines, aspens and wildflower gardens below. A hammered copper wood-burning fireplace, along with a television and large round family table (seats 8) completes the hearth room.
A charming smaller bedroom, the only one on the top floor, is found down a hallway from the kitchen, complete with a full bath that can be made available as an extra powder room.
Just beyond the hearth room, set in a magical turret overlooking mountains and gardens, is the meditation and yoga room. Here, surrounded by windows streaming sunlight or starlight, you can stretch out in the silence and soft white carpet to find the stillness that many come to the mountains to seek.
Just down the “secret” staircase from the hearth room and meditation room you will find the art room, tucked on the second level of this castle’s turret. Again, multiple windows, gorgeous lights and views of nature might inspire you to use the extensive art supplies provided to create your own masterpiece. Or, you might choose to walk beyond the art room to the second floor deck, where you will find more lounging areas, surrounded by the garden, trees, or in winter, untouched snow. And there you will also find a large, year-round 8-person hot tub, with massage features and various seating configurations. The steps from this deck lead down to the wildflower garden or the back lawn with its path leading up to the famed East Vail waterfall. If you wander beyond the back lawn, you will find a wooden bridge that leads to another part of the property, fun for exploration and more elevated views, as well as close-up inspection of that magnificent, massive bronze bear who is watching over the sculpture of Tom Sawyer fishing in the flowing water. Wildlife, including deer, foxes and, yes, bears, love to wander through the property as well.
The 2nd floor of this majestic home can be entered directly by stone, snow-melted outside stairs rising from the snow-melted driveway, or can be accessed from the first or third floors by interior grand staircase or the elevator. This 2nd floor boasts three full master suites with king beds, two queen rooms, each with their own full baths, the art room already mentioned as well as a well stocked library with printer, fax, a fully-supplied desk, a cozy reading chair and fanciful shelves filled with books and games to meet every taste. Also on this floor is a fully equipped laundry room and coat closet.
The 1st floor can be accessed directly from a stone entry off the driveway, which ushers you into the stone-floored, radiant heated café room with full fridge, Microwave, and snack station. This room boasts 16 lockers(which can be personalized with each guest’s name) waiting for your summer or winter outdoor gear, a foosball table, a retro jukebox with a wide CD collection, a hickory-crafted café table with bar stools and a cozy leather couch (which makes into a queen bed at night for extra guests.) Off the café room is the theatre and the indoor pool oasis. A full capacity laundry room and another full bath is located on the other side of the café. This is the perfect place to get warm, have a snack, a hot (or ice cold!) drink, get clean and have fun, even dance a little.

About Liv Fagerholm
We bought this property, which was the site of the first ski chalet of East Vail, and then built our dream home around the historic house. We are a large family of six children, who now have children of their own, and every room is full of love, cherished memories and joy.
Why Liv Fagerholm chose Vail
We loved Vail from our first visit on a ski vacation and then fell more in love after a summer visit. We have spent every holiday and summer here since then because there simply is no where else we've ever found that is more beautiful or magical. For health reasons we need to leave our beloved home and hope that others will create their own wonderful memories here.
What makes this estate unique
Imagine not needing air conditioning in the hottest part of summer because mountain breezes rustle through the aspens into every room. Imagine the sun warming you on every deck while the scent of wildflowers drift towards you. Imagine the best skiing in the country culminating with a warm dip in an indoor pool before a dining experience with crystal, china and pewter flatware fit for royalty. This is life at the Bear and Eagle Lodge in Vail, Colorado. It's the vacation of a lifetime. You deserve it.
