Inside laundry, 2 car garage with plenty of room for bicycles! (2 mountain bikes included) 2 private patios, The house has plenty off street parking for visitors; unlike Newport Peninsula, Balboa Peninsula and Balboa Island. Kick off your shoes and walk to the end of the street at this idyllic location and you will find the beach park, beach playground and dock. Your local friends can stop by and pick you up for a sunset bay cruise or you can rent an electric boat at the island’s bridge and pick up your guests and load your provisions from the dock at the end of our street. There are licensed captains that will take you for a sail, a tour, fishing boats 5 minute drive from the Island. You can visit Catalina Island, 5 minutes from here is the Catalina Flyer leaving from the Newport Pavilion. There is nice little museum there that talks about the history of Newport Beach and Harbor. There is whale watching to California Grey whales visit twice here twice a year ..they are truly amazing, in winter they head south and in spring they head north, many times when you are out on the whale watching vessels and the Catalina Flyer you will see schools of spinning dolphins, like ballerinas in the water. As you leave the Harbor don't forget to look for pelicans, seals, and sea lions ..so cute when young pups! There is plenty of boat action here because Newport is fairly large and fairly small at the same time making it Idyllic for pleasure boat owners and sailors to cruise/race these waters.
Newport Harbor/Beach has the largest pleasure boat Harbor in the world. If your a Yachtsman like John Wayne and Humphrey Bogart, you can visit many of the private Yacht Clubs, Newport Harbor Yacht club, Bahia Corinthian Yacht Club, Balboa Yacht Club. Many of these have Reciprocal with other Yacht Clubs, so bring your membership card with you and or letter from your club saying your a member of good standing.
This home is perfect for 1 or 2 couples or a family of up to 5 (could sleep 6). A 5 minute bike ride or 10 minute walk takes you to the premier Newport surfing beach at 32nd street, the beach boardwalk, and the Newport and Balboa ocean piers are all along the Newport/Balboa peninsula (the 2 are connected)
You can walk to many fine restaurants, like the world famous Crab Cooker, Cannery, Sabatinos, Bear Flag, Blue Water Grill, The Dock, Flying Fish, Balboa Bay Club were John Wayne and family would hang out. it's a hotel now and a club, so you visit any of the fine dining restaurants and bars (some of which are outdoors which I just Love).. one is called 'Dukes' named after the 'Duke' himself!
Also, Arches ..now called A's where Wayne had a private account, everyone did that was anybody in those days. Also nearby the famous, Woody’s Wharf and the Crab Cooker restaurant ..this restaurant has a lot of benches in front for a reason the wait is long ..despite the paper plates they serve your food on ..it is worth the wait! But if you don't like waiting go early or go late or take away!
And be sure to take quarters for parking meter or I believe the meters take credit cards now?
Also before I forget, I should mention the Best Bakery
this side of the Mississippi!!! C'est Si Bon .. French
Baguettes just like in France, and all the other wonderful delights. We love the kiss of death chocolate cake! They have sandwiches to go also ..and yes, very much like the ones in France, if you order on Baguette.
The home has a very private courtyard with French doors that expands the living room to the outdoors with teak furnishings. At the back of the home you can be more social on the strada, have drinks, dinner and barbecue; there is a Teak dining for a Traditional BBQ. There is wi-fi internet and cable TV. There is a gas BBQ and a fully equipped kitchen; I love to cook.
There are stem less wine glasses for white and red wine. Martini and Margarita glasses. There are treasures that I have collected from all over the world. Working for American Airlines has allowed me to be a world traveler/global citizen. The photos don't do it justice!! Everyone who comes to the cottage loves it. I wish I wasn't working so much so I could encourage people to write a review(s). But hey, we just started renting to short term visitors.
There is a snack bar on the island open during summer, the kids love, cash only and there is a Lido Isle Yacht club that kids sign up for year round and some adults too. You can learn to sail. The club house has a BBQ every Friday and a Tostado night every other second and forth tuesday. The Beach at the club house has life guard on duty during summer and a swim slide dock that the kids 'just love'.
If you come in the Fall or Winter months there is a Chateau Fire place with gas logs that adds a lot of
ambiance to the living room, dining room and kitchen
We hope that you love the cottage as much as my family and I do.

About Linda Ridgeway
I consider myself a citizen of the world. I have worked for American Airlines for 34 years and I have traveled extensively, mostly Internationaly. I love to travel and I love to share my special cottage with others. I hope that our guests enjoy and love the cottage as much as my family, friends and I have over the years! Lido Isle is a special place and I would like to share with as many people that would like to visit. Bon Voyage, Cheers and All the Best! Linda
Linda Ridgeway purchased this cottage in 1996
Why Linda Ridgeway chose Newport Beach
I purchased the property because of its location. The beach park and dock are at the end of our street. We are close to the Newport Pier, Balboa Pier, and plenty of off-street parking. I love the location and you will too. I grew up spending my summers on Balboa Island, but the traffic, lack of parking spaces, and abundance of parking tickets turned me to Lido. This property is wonderful! Lido is a paradise away from the craziness of the peninsula but still right next to the beach.
This is a special island .. if you come here in summer the Lido Island Yacht Club is full of life and the snack bar is open and ready to serve you the best french fries you've ever tasted!
What makes this cottage unique
The city of Newport Beach, has so much to offer, from dining, shopping, surfing, fishing, biking, standup paddle, sailing, boating, sunset cruising, shopping, wine tasting. Golfers love this place, jazz people, tennis, musicians, artiest,
Guestbook comments from the owner
Our summer stay at the Lido cottage was arranged about 9 months in advance we booked for July 26 to Sept. 6 2014. We loved this charming and quaint cottage. You could tell it was remodeled by a designer. The location was idyllic for my family. It was so close to restaurants, shops, the super market, Hi Time cellars (wine and liquor), other speciality markets, like Mothers, Sprouts, Trader Joe's and a wonderful
Gourmet Meat market just 5 minutes away; My husband's a chef so he
The Surfing beach was super close, the kids enjoyed, they could ride their bikes home for lunch if they wanted or stop at the 32nd street Plaza and grab lunch there, so many choices. A Burger bar, A taco stand, Gina's Pizza and more.
I also had a infant, so it was nice to have the bay beach at the end of the block. I will be back, I especially loved the private courtyard for entertaining, and the back patio had a nice teak dining table for BBQ's.
We can't wait to return, making memories at the cottage.
