Overview

University Heights House Rental Photos and Description

2 Bed 1 Bath Home In Heart Of San Diego And Short Walk To Thriving Park Blvd.

The home is a charming early Twentieth century Craftsman (circa 1915) that has a usable front porch with seating and and spacious back yard area complete with a gas grill, shaded patio seating and herb garden (Mint, Chives, Basil,Thyme, Savory). Part of the joy of not staying in a hotel is doing your own cooking (for some people at least). An amazing Sunday farmers' market 4 blocks away in Hillcrest, grocery shopping (Trader Joe's, Ralph's, Sprouts market) are all within walking or biking distance. But when you are not interested in cooking, there are several great restaurants just 2 blocks away!

Each of the two bedrooms has its own queen bed. There is a pull out couch/ futon in the living room as well as an available portable single bed if necessary.

A gas assisted fireplace in the living room provides a little extra warmth and coziness for when the temperatures drop in San Diego (Yes, the temps do drop here on occasion) . An AC unit and a whole house fan allows guests to keep cool when the weather heats up.

We also have the home outfitted with a flat screen LCD TV with cable TV programming as well as Netflix, MLB.Com (provides all MLB games for baseball fans) and many other Roku channels in addition to an included WiFi network for internet access for our guests.

When you are ready to fire up the gas grill, it will be ready and waiting.

For any tiny vacationers, we have a pac-n-play, infant tub, highchair and toys.

We are proud to feature original art throughout the house from a local artist.

You can be assured that we will strive to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Thanks for looking.

About David

Our family purchased the home as an investment in 2009. We recently decided to remodel the home and turn it into a vacation rental. The location is perfect for out-of-towners in love with (or ready to fall in love with) San Diego. We certainly have enjoyed living in SD both when we were young and single, then as a dating couple, and now raising our kids here.

David purchased this house in 2009

Why David chose University Heights

University Heights is full of unique restaurants and cafes and is close to Hillcrest, the downtown/Gaslamp district, Little Italy and Balboa Park.

Our guests can take advantage of a great walking neighborhood where going out for a meal or coffee does not require getting into a car.

For families with kids, Trolley Barn Park is an easy walk from the home. World renowned San Diego Zoo is less than 5 minutes by car.

Our guests can also take advantage of the free summer concert's in the Trolley Barn park, Padres baseball at Petco park and beaches within a 15 minute drive from the home. The US/ Mexico border is approximately a 30 minute drive from the home for those wanting to explore our neighbor to the South.

What makes this house unique

- Amenities for babies/ toddlers

-An Herb Garden for those interested in cooking

- Gas BBQ for grilling

- Walking distance to local restaurants and Trolley Barn Park

-very close to Hillcrest and its commercial district (Trader Joes, Ralphs, Whole Foods, etc)

- The home has alot of unique charm and character and is situated in a terrific neighborhood

Good location

  • 4 of 5
My wife and I stayed for a week in October 2014. The location is one of the key benefits. About 15 mins drive from the airport with probably most of the tourist attractions in San Diego not much further. Balboa Park a 5 min drive and also easy to get out of the city for more distant attractions. We loved Coronado, La Jolla and Torrey Pines State Beach/Reserve (great hiking at both). For something different try Julian a quaint mountain town with great stores and restaurants 1.5 hours away. After your excursions you have convenience stores, liquour store, coffee shop and several restaurants an easy, level 5 min walk from the house. Full size supermarkets a 5 min drive away. Neibourhood very friendly to. The house is clean, tidy and well appointed but remember it is maybe 100 years old so is not ultra modern but definately quaint. Having said that we loved it and did not want for anything except maybe a dishwasher. The front porch is neat and great for watching the world go by over breakfast coffeee or sundowners. The owner was a pleasure to deal with and booking from overseas easy. Would stay again and wish we had stayed for 2 weeks! Thanks David.

Great Place

  • 5 of 5
This was a perfect place for the three of us to stay! Great little house, loved sitting on the front porch when we had free time. It was located right in the heart of where we wanted to be. We had friends in Normal heights, party to go to in North Park, visited Balboa Park and then hung out down town. Would stay here again.

Summer is San Diego

We loved the house in University Heights. It was perfect for our family and great to be able to spread out after a couple of weeks in hotels. The house was very clean and cozy and had everything we needed. The neighbourhood was quiet and it was a very short distance to all the sights and in close proximity to the local grocery store plus some great restaurants. David was very helpful and accommodating. We would definitely stay here again. Thanks David :)

Comfy Digs

  • 5 of 5
What an extraordinary stay we recently had in San Diego. We took our grandchildren out to LEGOLAND, SeaWorld, zoo, beach, and PetCo. Stadium, where each day we were gone from light to dark. By the end of those very long. tiring days, we referred to our last activity as "going home." A completely well stocked kitchen made eating in very easy and welcome after eating junk food all day. We had ample towels for nightly showers and even a day at the beach (spent on a nice size beach blanket). We also used the two beach chairs we found in the quaint comfortable back yard, complete with ambient lighting. When it got time to pack up and head home, I was able to pack all clean clothes thanks to a stacked washer and dryer. Not only would I recommend this property to friends and relatives, I already have spread the word on Facebook, along with pictures. The house, inside and out looked exactly like the pictures on line, so the only surprise upon arrival was the ease in which we were able to get into our home-away-from-home. We spoke to the owner just before leaving Texas, and he was quite helpful. But, most information was exchanged via email/texts which simplified things tremendously. I really liked the code used to open the front door. My grands were able to come and go without waiting for a key. In the evenings, the kids would watch the provided Netflix until they crashed from the day's events. Couldn't have asked for a better setup. My only question now would be, "When can we come back?" Thank you for the trip of a lifetime for us and our grandchildren. Thanks, David. You Rock!

Walking distance to downtown Uni Heights

Very enjoyable weekend at this house. There were 3 of us and it was quite comfortable. The house was very clean and tidy. We used the a/c and ceiling fans on the first day. We didn't do any cooking (apart from making coffee in the morning) but the kitchen was nice. The house has a couple tranquil places outside to hang out - an enclosed back patio (with bbq) and a small front porch for people watching. Quiet, friendly neighborhood with several shops and restaurants within a 5 minute, easy, flat walk from the house. We enjoyed the banh thai restaurant for dinner and the parkhouse eatery for breakfast - both excellent. After dinner drinks and pinball at fun dive bar called Lancers (cash only) around the corner. Would definitely stay here again.

Perfect San Diego house

  • 5 of 5
This house is immaculately clean, and well-stocked. Every amenity is provided. The beds and linens and couches are clean and comfortable. The dishes and decore are elegant. The neighborhood is very safe, and a food/entertainment district is a short three- block walk. I highly recommend this hidden San Diego gem.

University Heights is a neighborhood located in Central San Diego. It is adjacent to the neighborhoods of Hillcrest and North Park. There are a number of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and other eclectic businesses within walking distance of our home. University Heights is centrally located and allows visitors to explore the San Diego Zoo and Balboa Park to the immediate South. The larger commercial district of Mission Valley sits in the valley below University Heights and the beaches (Ocean and Mission) are a short 15 minute jaunt to the west. Downtown San Diego and all it has to offer, is a short ten minute drive to the Southwest.
