Welcome to our Pacific Northwest home which is located in one of the most serene and beautiful waterfront communities on Bainbridge Island, Port Madison. A former mill town, Port Madison is located on Port Madison Bay.....away from traffic and noise, it is a wonderful refuge for a family vacation, a girls' weekend or a romantic retreat!
The home is well maintained, tastefully appointed, and is comprised of three bedrooms upstairs, two baths upstairs, and half bath down, large living/great room with TV, additional separate TV room, library, kitchen, and dining area. The kitchen is fully equipped with a Subzero refrigerator, Wolf electric cooktop and Wolf combination microwave and convection oven. A large front deck wraps around the house with access to the large front yard for badminton, croquet, or whiffle ball! A few steps down the street is the western exposure Port Madison waterfront which includes 1,200 feet of beach, a dock, float and boat launch for kayaking in serene Port Madison Bay. Fay Bainbridge State Park on Puget Sound is located within a mile and can be enjoyed for beachcombing or a picnic while viewing the boats, marine wildlife, Seattle, Mount Rainier and Mount Baker.
The small town of Winslow is seven miles from Port Madison. The main street is lined with small shops for browsing and various restaurants and bakeries. You can also delight in finding special foods and wine at the Town and Country Market on Winslow Way, Bainbridge Island's own specialty food store. Located in Winslow is the Washington State ferry landing which has runs each hour bringing you onto Bainbridge Island from Seattle as well as taking you into the city for a day of sightseeing on the Seattle waterfront.
For golfers, there is a public 9 hole golf course not far from Port Madison by car. Additionally, for a scenic walk within the forest, The Grand Forest is open daily. The Bloedel Reserve, across the bay from Port Madison, is available to the public for viewing spectacular estate gardens. To the South on Bainbridge Island is the lovely Pleasant Beach Village which has an English theme to the architecture, more shops, restaurants and a small original movie theater built in the 1940s. The theater shows classic movies from all eras.
Across the Agate Pass Bridge, at the north end of Bainbridge Island, is the town of Poulsbo, a popular destination for more browsing of shops and the boating harbor. It was built on Liberty Bay with a Norwegian theme and 'Little Norway' continues to delight visitors every day!
My family has lived in Port Madison since 1953 when they moved from Alaska to Port Gamble and then settled in this fabulous Bainbridge Island neighborhood. Because I grew up here, the community holds a special place in my heart. Our home was built in 1986 to provide a special place for our two boys to enjoy their childhood. They often played at the beach and spent many hours looking under rocks for crabs, collecting special rocks and beach glass, fishing off of the dock, swimming, and water skiing. A most special place!
Becky Benz purchased this house in 1986
Our Port Madison home is private, peaceful and a few steps from the community beach. Relax on the deck outdoors or go beachcombing on our private bay-front beach. The house is Cape Cod style, is well maintained and set up for visitors to enjoy their stay....all aspects have been anticipated....for that special Port Madison and Bainbridge Island vacation. Your small dog is welcome, but remember that leashes are required on Bainbridge Island!
Port Madison was a thriving lumber mill and port in the 1800s which contributed to the vitality and development of the Puget Sound region. Still standing are a few of the original lumber mill homes, which add to the character of this special community. You can enjoy some of the interesting facts and photos about Port Madison in our book of historical information.
We enjoyed this home and it's beautiful location on Bainbridge Island. It's not too far from restaurants and the Ferry. It's a great home for time with family just a short walk to the water and a nice private beach area.
We have stayed at many VRBO's and this one was fantastic! The home was immaculate with the highest end finishes all the way down to the plates, pots and pans! Just lovely. Home was so quiet, but very accessible to everything beautiful Bainbridge had to offer. The ONLY drawback/suggestion I can make to Becky is, please consider putting a King-sized bed in the Master bedroom. It is a huge bedroom, but Queen beds just don't cut it anymore in a Master! We are spoiled, but also tall, so that's tough for us. Enjoy the scenery and short walk to the beach! Our family loved combing the beach in the morning for sand dollars , crabs, and jelly fish.
We had a wonderful extended weekend visit to the Seattle area. Loved having our Port Madison home to come back to and relax. Enjoyed taking walks, talking with the neighbors and playing basketball. The house was clean and spacious. Easy arrival and departure. Will stay there again on our next venture to the area.
I've stayed at a bunch of VRBO properties, but this one so far is the best. The reason I say that is that Becky included so many amenities it felt more like staying at a hotel. Typically I expect to bring my own soaps, etc - this house has all of that, and she had a welcome basket with wine and cheese. Becky followed up with me before my trip with advice about what to do with my young kids, etc. I was very happy staying here.
Can not say enough positive things about this property and it's owner. Listing is exactly accurate. The place is like staying in a 5 star resort. Well furnished and very comfortable.
Quiet location only minutes from the Seattle ferry dock. The owner was extremely helpful in answering our questions about the property and the area. Great front lawn for family games of badminton , etc,. Highly recommended.
Our Port Madison Vacation Home is located in one of the most special locations on Bainbridge Island. Port Madison is the site of an 1800's historical lumber mill, and still boasts some of the original mill homes amid newer residences. The Port Madison community enjoys their own 1,200 feet of private beach for beachcombing and also their own dock, float, and boat launch. Daily walks are enjoyed by many around the Port Madison waterfront loop on Euclid Avenue. Also a new wooded trail system within Port Madison is a wonderful, peaceful walk. Not far from our home is Fay Bainbridge State Park, which is within walking distance. The park enjoys more wonderful beach and picnic area with views of downtown Seattle, Mount Rainier to the south, and Mount Baker to the north. For morning coffee and a pastry, a short car ride away is the small enclave of Rolling Bay. This small village area includes a coffee shop, the famous Bay Hay and Feed which is a garden and nursery shop, and local Post Office. Into the quaint Town of Winslow, Bainbridge Island is proud of their new Art Museum of Bainbridge Island, completed in June, 2013. This magnificent building is located on Winslow Way, the main street for enjoying shopping and dining during your visit. A public golf course is located on Bainbridge, the Bloedel Reserve which enjoys spectacular gardens and peaceful meditation points, The Grand Forest with community walking trails through large, old growth timber, and Fort Ward State Park with lots of beach walking on beautiful Rich Passage.
