BEAUTIFUL VIEW APT IN HEART OF NORTH BEACH/TELEGRAPH HILL -CENTRAL TO EVERYTHING

North Beach Apartment Rental Photos and Description

3 Bedrooms, 1 & One Half Baths With Incredible Views Of Sf

This residence is perfectly situated at the foot of Telegraph Hill and central North Beach. It is 2 blocks to the heart of North Beach, 'Washington Square', which is Little Italy and showcases the many local shops, restaurants, coffee houses etc. The church that faces Washington Square Park is famous as the site where Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were married in 1954. It is a short walk to Coit Tower, the Embarcadero along the Bay, the home to the America's Cup staging ground, Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39 where you can catch Ferry's to Alcatraz, Sausalito and Angel Island. Also, easy access to local transportation which can take you anywhere in the City in approx. 15 minutes. You can see and also walk within 10 minutes to the 'Crooked Street' which is world famous. China Town is adjacent to Little Italy and therefore also a short walk. No better place to stay in SF and enjoy all it has to offer.

Please see article featuring North Beach published by the San Francisco Chronicle below under 'Other Activities'.

NORTH BEACH APARTMENT

I was concerned for the the money that the pictures and description of this apartment might end up being misleading. I am happy to say it was the best surprise as we pulled into the neighborhood and walked into the apartment itself. The owners are wonderful and you feel as though you are a guest in their home. The house was clean, accommodating, with spectacular views and the location is amazing;, right in the middle of everything. It's a safe and quiet location as well. We walked most everywhere and when we got tired we tried out the city bus (which was cheap and convenient). We had the best mini-vacation and would definitely come back to this same home if it remains available.

HOME AWAY FROM HOME

  • 5 of 5
We recently travelled to San Francisco with two other couples to watch a friend race in the Escape from Alcatraz triathalon. We decided to stay in an apartment together rather than get 3 hotel rooms. This little hideaway on Tuscany Alley was perfect! The view was incredible, the unit is very clean and the beds comfortable. It was a fantastic location within walking distance to most sights and the area restaurants were terrific. Having 1 King and 2 queen bedrooms none of felt like we got the 'bad room'. The only improvement would be a second shower and access to the roof deck.

Owner's Response: It is always nice to get good reviews as this unit has achieved time and time again. As for a second shower, would love to provide that but there is simply no room and of course that is abundantly clear from my description of the unit. As for roof deck, it is unfortunately not safe so again would love to allow access but I can't for your safety reasons and I do not advertise the deck. Happy to hear the things I can control are all well received and thanks for the great review.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

  • 5 of 5
The location of this property is perfect, within walking distance to Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 and North Beach Restaurants. There were 6 of us staying, the bedrooms are a good size and there is enough (plus extra) towels for everyone. The place was spotless and comfortable. I have already given family and friends David contact information, we will definitely stay there any time we are in San Francisco.
Thank you David everything was perfect I can't wait to come back.

VERY NICE APARTMENT, BUT DID NOT FEEL WELCOMED

  • 4 of 5
The apartment was very nice and has wonderful views from the kitchen. However, the views in the photos are make things appear much closer than they actually are, but it was still lovely. It was very clean, with a well stocked kitchen. However, when we arrived by car, we were about 20 minutes early, so we decided to drop off our bags and groceries on the sidewalk while we waited to check in. We stopped, with car running, in location that blocked a driveway to unload and were immediately affronted by a women who was very angry and abrasive. She insisted that we move our car immediately and threatened to call David (owner) to report on us. We did move our car to a double-park location in the street (which was much less safe for everyone) and unloaded there. No one in our group was unkind to this woman and simply explained to her that we wished to unload our car. Within a few minutes, the owner phoned me and asked if we were checking in early; and then further accused me of being unkind to a neighbor. I was insulted and could not understand his accusatory tone. There were 6 adults in our group (all over 55); all were shocked at our treatment as paying guests.

Owner's Response: I'm pleased they were very happy with my unit and I was very sorry that they had a bad experience with someone on the street. Like most cities, parking is a premium and blocking someone's driveway even while just unloading is hard for residents in a densely populated City like SF. They get that all the time and obviously they were not having a good day and took it out on these unsuspecting guests. The next day I did apologize in person to my neighbor as well as the guests as I try very hard to make sure they are welcomed by me and have everything they need. Unfortunately, this happened and it was nobody's fault. I have since made it very clear in my Welcome Letter that is sent out ahead of time to NOT block any driveways even if the car is running and you are present as that is simply not acceptable for many residents in the area. Not much else I can say other than sometimes this kind of thing happens but certainly no reason to dwell on it and learn from your mistakes. I had this experience and now suggest better ways to unload etc when checking in.

EXCELLENT RENTAL

  • 5 of 5
We had a wonderful time in San Francisco with our three young boys. It was a perfect location as we could see Lombard Street (the crookedest street), Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Bay with ships coming and going all day and we were a quick walk from Washington Square and Fisherman's Wharf. Would highly recommend!!

Car: not necessary

Published by the San Francisco Chronicle: North Beach is that rare place - a neighborhood that manages to be a perennial hit with tourists, yet remains beloved by San Franciscans. It's best known as San Francisco's Little Italy, with its high density of check-clothed ristorantes, caffes and Old World delicatessens. It's also a popular pilgrimage for fans of the Beat movement seeking the old haunts of Kerouac and Ginsberg. However, North Beach is no relic as it has much to offer beyond pasta and poetry. This vital neighborhood is home to some of the liveliest nightclubs and bars in town. Small boutiques carrying handmade clothing and imported goods dot the streets, particularly on upper Grant Avenue. Though Italian restaurants appear to dominate the dining scene, there are plenty of other good spots to try once you've had your fill of lasagna, with menus featuring Japanese, French and contemporary fusion cuisine. City Lights, original publisher of Allen Ginsberg's 'Howl,' is still one of the best bookstores in San Francisco, and founder Lawrence Ferlinghetti can sometimes be seen strolling the neighborhood. Part of the old Barbary Coast, North Beach is steeped in the past - Grant Avenue itself is the oldest street in San Francisco. In the early days, North Point docks served as a gateway for immigrants from South America, Europe and the Australian penal colonies. It wasn't until the late 1800s that thousands of Italians made the area their stronghold and turned it into the local Latin Quarter. The Italian-American community can also be credited in part with protecting the neighborhood against the fire that swept the city after the 1906 earthquake. According to legend, some enterprising residents cracked open the barrels of red wine in their cellars and saved their houses by draping them with wine-soaked blankets. In more recent history, North Beach has produced some notable people, including baseball's great, Joe DiMaggio, who moved there at the age of one and grew up in a flat at Valparaiso and Taylor. Also, former San Francisco mayor Joseph Alioto was born in North Beach. Whether prowling for historic landmarks, sampling house-roasted espressos, shopping, clubbing or chowing down, you'll find North Beach has plenty to offer for both a leisurely afternoon visit and a night on the town. Take a detour off the main drag of Columbus and you're likely to run across some unexpected treasure of a shop, restaurant or spectacular view that only this San Francisco gem-of-a-neighborhood could offer.
