Lanzarote & Playa Blanca : Lanzarote owes its unique landscape to its volcanic origins and the major eruptions which covered vast areas of the island with lava. There is a marked difference between the arid south of the island and the greener north. The climate is warm and sunny all the year round with very little rainfall. Car hire is recommended, if only for a few days, to experience fully all that Lanzarote has to offer – the spectacular Fire Mountains, the beaches, the many pretty white villages and the numerous first class visitor attractions. Except for the area close to Arrecife and the airport the roads are not busy and are well signposted.

Playa Blanca has grown in the last ten years from a small fishing village to a flourishing resort which is quieter and less busy than other resorts on the island. The town has shops to suit all tastes and several super markets for food shopping. The many restaurants overlooking the sea offer a choice of local and ethnic cuisines.

Ferries to Fuerteventura leave the harbour at frequent intervals and there is a fisherman's cooperative down by the harbour where locally caught fish can be purchased. Further out of Playa Blanca the beaches at Papagayo are some of the best in the island and form part of the National Park. There is a small charge to access them via a dirt road but they can also be reached by water taxi or excursion boat.
