UPSCALE AND MODERN. A HIDDEN PARADISE ON THE BACKWATERS OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER

Wabasha Cabin Rental Photos and Description

1 Bedroom, Plus Loft, With Stunning Views Of Backwaters Of The Mississippi River

Open year-round! Nestled between the small riverside towns of Alma and Nelson, Wisconsin, the Caye Dreams cabin sits on the backwaters of the Mississippi. What once was a day cabin with no running water or electricity to speak of, was completely remodeled in 2013. Every detail was considered, from the hand-scraped wood floors, the Amish rough sawn pine ceiling, the natural stone marble counter tops, the real stone slate surrounding the free-standing wood stove (there to keep you cozy on a cool night), to the screened-in deck with stunning views of the calm Mississippi backwaters and the trains passing by. You’ll feel like you just escaped into paradise.

The cabin sleeps six people comfortably in it’s one bedroom and large loft area. Enjoy incredible views as the sun rises and sets, and watch as the fisherman and water skiers go back and forth during the day. You’ll also have access to the water and use of our dock so that you can fish, swim, or just relax. Experience what it’s like to stay at a truly unique place.

Suitability:
  • children welcome
  • non smoking only
  • pets not allowed

Joe grew up in Mondovi, WI as one of 8 on a family farm. For 22 years he co-owned a home improvement company. He was an active member of the local Chamber of Commerce as well as on the committee for the Young Professionals of the Chippewa Valley. Joe was also an active member of the Chippewa Valley Home Builders Association and served a term as chairman of the Home and Garden Show. Joe has always been an entrepreneur and owns several student rentals in Eau Claire, WI. Currently he is promoting a 90-day health challenge helping people lose weight and get fit. Libby grew up in the small town of Washburn, WI. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire with a marketing degree. She was a member of the Young Professionals of the Chippewa Valley. She currently works for a non-profit organization. Joe and Libby met 4 years ago and were married this past December on a small island in Belize. Both love to travel and this shared passion has taken them on many adventures. Their dream is to one day live part of the year in Alma, and part of the year in Belize.

Joe Becker purchased this cabin in 2012

This cabin sat only feet from our own cabin property line and Joe always had a vision for what it could be. When the neighbor was ready to sell there was no question that we would buy. Joe took his love for home improvement and his attention to detail and design and made this cabin truly unique and upscale. Libby added her own personal touches here and there and was given full reign of making sure the kitchen was completely stocked with the proper utensils (and coffee and creamer of course!).

Joe & Libby found the views of the water and calming effects of the trains passing (don't worry they don't blow their horns where we are, and you can hardly hear them once inside) by so stunning that they wanted to share this experience with as many other people as possible, and thus Caye Dreams Riverside Hideaway was born. The meaning behind the name is a topic left for discussion sitting around a campfire with us enjoying one of your favorite cocktails or some of our homemade wine.

Awesome escape

We rented this house last minute and we were extremely happy we did. It was clean, reasonable price and coming from Eau Claire it was a nice distance. We have children and busy lives and needed a few days to relax and unwind. The only downfall was that the DVD player did not work and we had brought some movies to watch. Another note, if you are a light sleeper there are trains that go by several times a day - no horns blowing or anything though. It did not bother us one bit.

Owner's Response: Thank you again for your stay! Yes, the trains have their presence as we let everyone know on the details portion of the site. You will see some and some days you may see many :) Like you said they don't bother much.
We apologize for the DVD inconvenience. As I mentioned on the phone prior to your stay that I don't know much about components but my wife is almost always home next door and can help show how the entertainment components work. We wish you would have taken us up on our offer so that you could have taken advantage of the DVD player. We checked and all works good. We will try to write up some instructions as to how to get the DVD player to connect versus the Direct TV so that guests from now on will have an easier time using the system.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay :)

A little get away

Great Trip! My husband and I wanted to get away for a few days and found this cabin on VRBO. The cabin met our needs by the cleanliness of the place, it was well furnished, and it met all of our needs. The location was great, by the tracks, on the water and a great place to go sightseeing. We rented a canoe and did some exploring and got to see many different birds including Bald Eagles. Great place to stay!

The cabin was beautiful, Joe did an amazing job remodeling the place!! The river was gorgeous and we had perfect weather...we just couldnt get used to trains that would come by. We found it hard to ignore them, which was unfortunate because it is such a beautiful place.

Owner's Response: Cari, we are so glad you enjoyed the cabin (minus the trains)! We try and express what it is like to have the train tracks near us, however for some it takes being here to discover that they love the trains, or in some cases, not love them. We also know that most parents with small children worry about having the tracks close and we completely understand. Thank you for staying with us and thank you for your feedback!

We loved the river towns near this spot

This is a honey of a spot along the Mighty Mississippi, just outside the historic village of Alma WI. All of the features of this cozy cottage were very accurately represented by the listing. Personally I think the best feature of this place are the folks who own and maintain it. Both Libby and Joe went the extra mile to assure that we were happy during our stay. If I was to be at all critical it would be that I had to adjust to the rumble of the frequent and loud freight trains that spped up and down the tracks along the river. Even they are nostalgic of a nearly lost era. Check out this gem. GP

We LOVED the cabin! Our weekend was spent relaxing in the beautiful cabin, lounging on the screened in deck, floating in our floaties off the dock, and sitting by the fire at night! It's a wonderful getaway location with great owners! We would love to come back!

Stay on the backwaters of the Mississippi River and enjoy gorgeous views of the water, trains passing by, and the abundant wildlife. Take a day trip to explore the many wineries in the area and wine taste your way up and down the Great Mississippi River Road. While you're here you can hike up to Buena Vista Park and experience the stunning view from a top the bluffs of Alma, WI. Or, if you'd rather, take a nice drive along the river to soak in views of the bluffs, wildlife, and river. Another must see is the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN, featuring live eagles. If you're visiting us in the winter don't forget to bring your skis, snowboard, or snowshoes. If you like fishing, we've got that too! So again, if it's winter, pack your ice shack and warm clothes and Joe will show you where all the fish are biting. We've also got great biking trails and roads if you are a cyclist. If you like boating, kayaking, canoeing, or just about any other water sport we've got the perfect location for you to do all of those things as well. Feel free to bring your boat and tie it up at our dock! Into golfing? Yes, we have that too! Like campfires? Perfect, we've got a great fire pit for having a fire and roasting s'mores (Libby always has the ingredients for those!). To experience something really unique, add Suncrest Gardens to your list. Suncrest Gardens has the best pizza in the area, live music many nights, and a nice fire to keep you warm as the evening fades away. Only catch is you have to bring your table, chairs, plates, napkins, and silverware but no worries you can borrow ours. (Warning, we may have to go with because we love their wood-fired pizza and of course we wouldn't want you to get lost trying to find it). You can also explore the many small river towns along the Mississippi, do some shopping, eating, or antiquing. Lastly, if you love deep-fried cheese curds, or if you have no idea what those are, than you must go to Pioneer (a 10-minute boat ride) and you'll have the best hand-battered white cheese curds Wisconsin (or anywhere else) has to offer. Not to mention, the Saturday night prime rib that melts in your mouth.
