Overview

Calheta Villa Rental Photos and Description

2 bed, 3 bath, very private, large terrace, gardens, stunning views, car port

Completed in 2008 to a very high standard, this house (mostly ground floor) was built for comfort and as much outdoor living as possible. You'll be surprised and delighted by the space and light both inside and out, and by the breathtaking views over the village to the Atlantic. The private driveway leads into a large courtyard with carport and access to the hacienda, pool and terrace area. Here you have complete privacy for sunbathing, swimming and eating, and the pool has a constant depth of 1.40 metres. The large and superbly-equipped Miele kitchen is the first room you come to, and from there an archway opens into a huge sitting/dining room with comfy sofas and armchairs, dining table, floor-to-ceiling double glazed windows, 40 inch LED TV, an open log fire and under floor heating for winter. Beyond is the study (a child can sleep here on a Z-bed) and, opposite, a guest WC/shower room. Further on is the en-suite double bedroom (ideal for anyone with mobility difficulties).

Upstairs, the master bedroom with en-suite shower room has a large balcony.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Gwych! Bendigedig! Ardderchog! Gret! Hyfryd! Da iawn! Which, being interpreted from the Welsh, is: Amazing, wonderful, excellent, great, beautiful, really very good !!

After a very stressful year for all of us, this peaceful home has been a little paradise. We came here to celebrate the year of our Ruby Weddings and we have not been disappointed. We leave with som many lovely memories. We have had a feast of delights in this perfectly situated villa, and would thoroughly recommend it.

With many thanks

Just in paradise!

  • 5 of 5

If you have not been since now in touch with paradise, you will discover what it means!

If you already have been in touch with the paradise, just let us say, here you felt in it!

The house is wonderful. Everything is beautiful! You can look at all the details.

Everything is very well finished, beautiful material. Take the time to look at all the paintings! Look at the plates, dishes, cups, …..

Everything asks respect, but you give it generously.

And last, but not least, it was for us the discovery that Madeira is such a wonderful place!!!

The island of flowers, very good products cooked here with all the facilities.

Just how to summarise, we will come back SURE!

And it is true, we have booked for 2015!

Thanks for all the small and big things that give you a sensation of PARADISE that give you a sensation of PARADISE

Just like Home and more

  • 5 of 5

From the first time we walked through the gates we knew we had found our perfect winter retreat from the cold Canadian winter. Casa Madrinha comes with all the comforts of home and we enjoy nights by the fire and preparing meals in the well equipped kitchen. The view and the sunsets are spectacular. Having a bedroom and facilities on the main level is ideal for me and the grounds and pool area ideal for anyone with accessibility issues. Linens and towels all provided. Vanda and Joseph ensure that all is clean and maintained. The location is ideal for quick visits for groceries, restaurants and access to the highway. It is nice to be in the midst of the village and to hear the church bells and singing on special occasions. The location just more relaxed, then the hustle and bustle of Funchal where we stayed our first winter. We are very lucky to have stayed the past 2 winters and fingers crossed for a few more.

Nirvana or something close!

  • 5 of 5

Repeat visits when there is ample opportunity to try somewhere else sends the obvious message that we are more than satisfied with Casa Madrinha. It is literally a home from home and an ideal location for exploring the whole of Madeira. Thanks to the "rapida" ( motorway), Funchal and the airport are a short, easy drive away as is Porto Moniz when you you want to get there fast. What more can you want?.

Owner's Response: Hello John and Joyce. I can't remember how many visits you have made to our house but it must be about six now. It's great that you come back every year and we love the title of this review! We look forward to welcoming you again in March 2015 and yes, even March 2016 is booked (forward planners or not?) ! Thank you and best wishes, Tony and Judith

Beautiful, spacious, well equipped home from home

  • 5 of 5

Thank you for a lovely relaxing break in your beautiful villa – just what we needed. It really felt like a home from home, though we don’t get such spectacular views in Leeds!! We have stayed in many villas over the years and this is one of the best ever. The spaciousness, cleanliness and many little home touches made it feel so welcoming.

We explored a little of Madeira while based here but have to admit that we weren’t really tempted to stray far from “home”. We found Vanda to be charming, helpful and very professional, and having a meal provided by Paula was a welcome extra.

Finally, we cannot leave here without mentioning the colourful wildlife – lizards, birds, butterflies, cats and dogs and of course your very own “screaming frogs”! Having wondered what on earth was providing the chorus on two evenings, we discovered the pond and gulley full of frogs yelling at each other. Noisy but hilarious!

Once again, thank you.

Owner's Response: Hello Andy and Paula - thank you for your enthusiastic comments and we were amused at your description of the colourful wildlife. Thought I should mention that the frogs' evening chorus only takes place in the spring so, if anyone wants to catch it, make sure you come at about that time! So glad you like our house so much - we've just been back for the month of November and the sunsets over the ocean were spectacular. Best wishes, Judith & Tony

We couldn't fault it!

We’ve had a really lovely week in your fab house. It’s been a perfect house for us – 2 adults and our 3 children aged 10, 12 and 14. We’ve all loved the pool – 2 or 3 dips a day – and the space to relax and enjoy the facilities. We’ve even used the study for some homework (including the scanner – how useful!).

Dragging the children away from the pool, we’ve done two levada walks (in Shirley Whitehead’s book) – both lovely although the second one is not for those with vertigo! We had a trip in the cable car at Funchal (stunning views) and whale watching with Lobosonda – dolphins and a Byde whale, amazing!

We hope to be back soon!

Owner's Response: Happy news - it sounds as though you all had such fun! Thanks Catherine for sharing with us (and anyone interested) how much you all enjoyed the house and the island. We're in the process of having the interior and exterior re-painted and we've also done lots of replacements and repairs so everything is ready for 2015. Hope you can make it back here before long! Beautiful house and location

  • 5 of 5

Title says it all. Would happily return, and hope to do so soon. This house does not feel like a holiday let, but a real home. Plenty of space outside, which can be unusual in Madeira, so no need or want to go anywhere else unless you want to explore. You can get all you need at the mini-market nearby in Calheta, where there are also reasonable restaurants, but buy a parking ticket or you will get a (small) fine. Really happy to have found this real gem.

You do need a car to make the most of the location.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your lovely comments, Patrick and Joyce. You obviously have good experience of holidaying in Madeira and share the same love of the island as we do. Warm regards, Tony and Judith

A perfect holiday destination, well away from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist areas on Madeira. Situated 250 metres above sea level and accessed by its own driveway, Casa Madrinha sits privately and with stunning views on a terrace in the pretty, rural village of Calheta, next to banana plantations and small holdings. Thanks to the new road system you can drive round the whole island in a day so the island's top attractions, including Funchal, are within easy reach. Only 5 minutes' drive brings you to Calheta with its protected beach of golden sand, a marina offering dolphin/whale watching excursions and deep sea fishing boats for charter, a hotel, supermarket, bank, art gallery and good choice of restaurants; or 15 minutes away you have the laurel, levada and waterfall wonderland of Rabaçal and the wide open expanses of the Paul da Serra - fantastic walking terrain. Car hire is necessary to enjoy all that this area has to offer and to explore this beautiful island
